I'm waaaaay late to the party with this one, I'm sure it was discussed to death at the actual time of release. Still, did anyone else think that the Subspace Emissary's story was a huge letdown? They strongly hinted at one thing, then gave us something entirely different! To see exactly what I mean, check this out!

Have you heard (or said) it all before? Do you disagree? Do you not really care one way or the other? Just putting this out there because it bugged me incredibly.

Honestly, I don't care.

I thought the story of the first games were that it was just a kid with his action figures, making them fight. (That's how you get characters from different franchises to fight, because they're just action figures some kid bought!) Considering it's a fighting game, the story isn't expected to be its strongest point.

As for "breaking the rules" not being Mario revivng Kirby? How about it being the mingling of Subspace with the regular dimension? I'm pretty sure that's against the rules. Honestly, I never even considered Mario reviving Kirby being the "breaking the rules".

Plus, even though Master Hand didn't need to become a pawn, he still couldn't be the final boss, since he's already the boss in Classic mode >_>

Hmm, good point, never thought of that. The world was certainly "paying a terrible price" for Tabuu's interference.
However, why then did they go out of their way to make it seem as though they were somehow referencing what was happening in the screenshots? Drawing a connection between the words ("rules being broken") and the pictures (Mario defeating Kirby, then reviving him) is the logical thing to do, I honestly think.

I see no problem with that. A little repetitive, perhaps, but I imagine it could have been enriched.

Because showing ROBs blowing up subspace bombs or Tabuu would have been too spoilerish.
Spoiler: AAI
It's the same reason in the trailer they didn't do something like say "Take town your most powerful foe yet!" and show a picture of Quercus.

(And assuming there was a connection between reviving Kirby and the rules being broken may have been logical, but you know what happens when you assume...)

I would have been very disappointed if Master Hand was the final boss of both Story mode and Classic mode. I thought Tabuu was a good final boss for story mode. (He was pretty hard, and had a ton of attacks.)

It's been a while since I've seen an article so blatantly trying to make a mountain out of a molehill.

The point of the original post on the Dojo was simply to describe the very basic plot of the Subspace Emissary, which it does - Tabuu broke the rules by enslaving Master Hand and trying to suck the world into subspace, and the world paid for it by almost being destroyed. Though the plot points about Tabuu and his plans weren't specified back then, looking back at the Dojo post now clearly shows that it was described that way with some generalization to it so as not to give away the plot entirely. As such, the only "hinting" from that post didn't turn out differently than described, the person who wrote the blog post merely interpreted the dojo post incorrectly.

To bo honest, though, expecting a story to be exactly how it's described to you with pictures and some loose text is being a bit foolish. I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't go into a movie expecting it to be exactly how the 30-second trailer described it to be; this would fall under that same principle.

As for the Subspace Emissary's story itself, I thought it was fairly good. It had its fair share of problems, like a lack of motivation for some of the characters and somewhat out-of-character actions of others, but for something inserted into a fighting game as a side-draw to a roster of all-star characters and countless other options, it served its purpose well.

All things considered I thought the plot played out fairly well considering how so many characters from such a wide variety of different universes met up.

I kept thinking they could have REALLY screwed up and considering the whole thing was done with next to no voice acting or dialogue.

Apart from Ice Climbers.....their contribution sucked.

Sadist

Pikmin dying in brawl, despite being incredibly common is incredibly sad. It's probably more annoying than the inevitable death of Olimar that caused the Pikmin to die. It's the 'screaming' in unison thing that gets me.

As both you and Bad Player have pointed out, the vague words from that update do fit the actual plot, even if they don't nail down specifics. I guess I just got caught up in my personal vision...:sadshoe:

Ah well. Reality rarely outdoes imagination anyway, and I doubt this would have been one of those times. Wasn't trying to be antagonistic, just felt strongly about it.

Oh, did you write this? Sorry if I came off a little strong, I tend get a bit carried away sometimes, though especially when it involves something I know quite well.

Just to note, though, they did end up changing/cutting a lot of content, if Sakurai is to be believed. He wrote awhile back of a scenario they made which showed how Wario stole the Halberd from Metaknight, or something like that.

Ah, one of the classic moments of the story. Probably the silliest, too, right up there with Diddy Kong repeatedly dragging Falco (I think?) back with him.

Is that the one where "'Some of the characters are on a bus on the way to the stadium. Samus is there. Donkey Kong is there and Snake is watching the bus from afar'" (from "Iwata Asks")? That actually piques my interest.

HOWEVER we do live in different time zones and even if we all gathered on sunday, I'm sure some people live 6 hours apart on here. thats like, me going on at a time good for me on sunday (4 o clock ish) that might be 10pm for others, which is the time some people may go to bed.
Good idea though, if we can work it out then it would work.

But, I have come second in an IRL tournament though. But, it was small. Only 100 or so people signed up.

Or if you've got a beast of a PC, you emulate everything! :hotti:

My gript with this is some series got too little representation in the game. I mean the Elite Beat Agent and/or Ouendan could easily have been atleast an assist trophy, Vyse (from Skies of Arcadia) would have been perfect as a fighter since Pit is alot like him anyways, and no Phoenix Wright! COME ON!?! :phoenix: :edgeworth:

lawl

It's just Melee skill carrying over and playing at tournaments.

http://allisbrawl.com/ttournament.aspx?id=8876

I didn't even touch a Gamecube controller for two weeks and did really well at this. Shadow was my only loss in both singles and teams, and he's like top 10 in the entire world and rapes national tournaments. Oh, and he beat me 3-1 twice in singles and 2-1 in teams, meaning I can beat him and take games.

MK dittos are fun. :D

Yes. I would be VERY interested....although It's likely I would lose. I suck at brawl.

Anyway, if we were to have a tourney, how would it work? Are we only allowed one character, or allowed to change it round to round?
As for rules, 5 stock, final destination, no items. It's the ONLY way to play.

Anyway, so far this is whos 'in':
