Now now, I'm sure the sweet sounds of Shinji Hosoe will make their way to the internet somehow.

(Though seriously, can people see any tracks besides the first? That's the only one showing up on my channel for me.)

I see 1-6 in your Videos tab. I guess that updates quicker than your channel front page.

Oh, good. Was worried YouTube was eating them somehow.

Onwards and upwards, then!

I am a very lovable guy.

The soundtrack also came with a small booklet with comments from the game writer/director, the sound director, and the composer, Shinji Hosoe. I haven't looked at it much, but I did get a kick out of the writer's comment that after listening to Blue Bird Lamentation for the first time "I first gave thanks to the genius Shinji Hosoe who brought this song into the world, and then to the gods who brought this genius into the world."

http://zero-escape.com/ now has links to the official VLR and 999 sites, though VLR is just a placeholder. Aksys'll be holding a panel tomorrow morning at Anime Expo to discuss VLR in English, and we should be getting some new info sometime very soon.

Nice to see that website finally has something besides "Coming soon" on it. Still, a shame that there is nothing on the VLR site.
As for the Anime expo, I heard they were giving out VLR water bottles today.

From NeoGAF:

Quote:
VLR summary:

-The title change was explained (the actual Japanese title could be read several ways, and so they changed it to capture that same mojo).

- WATCHES! Preorder watches, just like 999. Hilariously the original specs included a needle injector mounted in the watch, which Aksys had to tell the watchmaker to take out.

- The OVA WILL be dubbed, and will be available on the Aksys site COMPLETELY FREE. They showed a pretty good-looking preview.

- Water bottles! They own and will only be at AX.

- 999 is getting new box-art to match the new branding! Sadly it will (probably) not be available as a PDF for existing customers to print the new art out.

EDIT: One of the folks at Aksys provided the new 999 box in sample size.

Thanks for putting that up, I was hunting for it. Not quite sure how I feel about the new cover vs. the old one, but it does reflect the "Zero" part of "Zero Escape" now...
Well, cool, the only thing we have left to find now is that clip of the OVA with the english dubbing... Which should NOT be on the internet at all. Yet.

The new art for 999 looks pretty cool :)
I thought the OVA was like the intro to the actual game itself? Interesting, cant wait to get a Vita to play VLR :D

Erm, the OVA has already been released. Of course, it's Japanese only, until that dub is released.

I highly doubt that the OVA is the intro to the game itself, though. It's not like Professor Layton cutscenes, this OVA is over 12 minutes long. Plus, it's a bit fast paced, IIRC, while the game itself can be more detailed since it should read more like a novel.

Of course, the content of the OVA is almost definitely retelling the intro of the game, so yeah.

Hey, I'm the person running the tumblr blog somebody here linked to earlier.

The OVA is not the opening, as the OVA essentially is just a synopsis of the start of the game and the first couple rules of the Ambidex Game.

However, there is an opening in the game that takes snippets of animation from the OVA and plays them to a song. The song is the same one that plays on Sigma's radio at the beginning of the OVA.

Alright, I've finally scrounged up enough money to get this game pre-ordered, so I'm trying to decide where to buy it from. Does anyone know which outlets gave the pre-order bonus for 999? I'll just buy it from the same place and hope for the best.

(I know they're going to explain who's carrying the watches in more detail soon, but I'm impatient, dammit.)

I want to say it was Gamestop that had the watches last time, but don't quote me on that. You're really best off just waiting.

Also, Nintendo Power had a VLR article with English screens!

I'm not sure if the person who wrote that article actually played the game. There are a few inaccuracies within it.

It's not that big of a deal, though.

Do the inaccuracies have to do with Sigma's abduction? Because I just watched both the OVA and a demo playthrough, and they portray how Sigma is kidnapped differently, though I may just be seeing things wrong...

Knowing nothing about VLR's plot beyond official releases, I am going to guess that "to win a contest that can produce but one survivor" is an inaccuracy. That just doesn't sound right to me...

Spoiler: Various 999 Endings
There's quite a few occasions where there is but one survivor, inferred or otherwise, in 999.

Inaccuracies that I have spotted. Minor spoilers, but it's nothing that you wouldn't find within the beginning of the game.

Spoiler:
- Sigma is chased down by Zero while driving home. The article implies that somebody booby trapped his car or attacked him before he could start driving.

- The article says that every line of dialogue is voiced in the novel segments. Not true, Sigma does not have any voiced lines.

- It's never said at any point that only one person can escape.

Read something on Neogaf that has just made me psyched for this game even more - some impressions from someone who played the 3DS version I guess:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread. ... 49&page=16

Quote:
I liked it better than the first game. It's more coherent, has about 5 times the twists, and most complaints about 999's gameplay faults have been fixed and they even poke some fun at the less than satisfactory answers the writers gave in interviews after 999's release. The twists themselves are also better. For a lot of them I was all "Oh, it was right in front of my face all along. Fuck."

It's also absolutely a sequel. You shouldn't play it if you haven't seen 999's true end. Strictly speaking, the game gives a quick exposition whenever 999's story comes up, but some of the best "oh shit" moments are meaningless if you haven't completed the first game.

I'm absolutely sold. 999 was one of the best experiences I ever had, and though I have to get a Vita, I will get this. Can't wait. More twists! More curveballs and "WTF!" moments! :D

Pretty much everyone that I have talked to that has also played through the game thought it was better in pretty much every way. I will say that some people might like 999's ending better, but it really depends. But yes, VLR has far more twists and exciting things that happen. It's pretty much twist after twist after twist. And it's not in a bad way where it seems like they are throwing twists at you left and right just for the sake of throwing twists at you. But it feels very natural and each twist actually adds to the story. They all make sense when you actually go back and look at everything that happened, but you probably won't be able to call them before they actually happen.

Ghostlight teases Japanese 3DS game for localization

Quote:
Coming from a Ghostlight dev blog...

In other news, we’re making excellent progress on Devil Survivor 2 (DS) and Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS). They really are both excellent games so watch out for more news on these two over the next few weeks. I’ll also be announcing that Ghostlight has secured another Japanese 3DS game for release this year and before you start guessing, no, it’s not a JRPG this time!

It would be so awesome if this game were Virtue's Last Reward.

Interesting...
Guess I'll have to wait and see. I was prepared to get a Vita. I quite liked the idea of trophies and a bigger screen.
I could wait for the 3DS XL though and maybe the bottom screen will be useful for a map or something.

Oh, VLR is awesome? Sweeeeeeet :will:

I was actually planning to buy a 3DS+VLR a little while ago... but the day I decided I was going to buy it, they announced the 3DS LL, so I'm going to wait to buy that. (Man, I would've been pissed if they announced the 3DS LL the day after I bought a 3DS...)

So haipe ^_^

I wouldn't worry about those spoilers too much. I have a feeling I know which spoilers you are talking about, since they are the ones that have been floating around for a while. They're pretty big twists, but they're far from the best, and there are still far more that I haven't even seen posted on the internet at all.

So I got it today! =D

The sfx are the same as 999 which made me lol.

...I'm stuck in the first room ;_;

EDIT: Used a walkthrough. Made me felt like an idiot :payne: Anyway, I'm currently at the end of the second room. My thoughts, if anyone is interested (I'm trying to keep them pretty spoiler free. Obviously there will be SOME info about the game, but... I've only been playing for 2~3 hours, there aren't going to be any major plot reveals xP)
Spoiler: thoughts
So a lot of the sfx are the same as 999, which really makes me feel like it's a sequel. The music is also pretty similar; the music for the first room is the same, or at least a remix of the song from 999.

It takes, liek, 3 minutes for things to get real in 999. However, it takes about 4 minutes in VLR, which made me disappoint for my 3rd minute of playing.

I've already gotten through quite a few scenes that were in the trailer. Some of them are actually... Well, some characters have some 'splaining to do xP

Phi is a genre-savvy deadpan snarker. Tbh, part of me doesn't really like how she's right there right from the start. (Well, there's a plot reason for it I guess, so...)

I read somewhere that the game starts with Sigma and Phi in an elevator with a dead body. ................No dead bodies yet o.O

Alice and Clover seem to know each other. Which makes me believe that Alice really is THAT Alice. (which makes me kinda disappoint cuz I didn't want it to be her, but I guess now we'll finally find out what her deal is/was xP) As much as I don't like Clover, I think she was well-done in the one scene she's been in so far. (That is, she had a very normal, expected reaction xP)

Zero seems to be surprisingly generous with the info he gives.

I'm not very far in, but just from first impressions and whatnot, my favorite characters so far are K and Dio. ...Unfortunately, from the rules of this Nonary Game, it seems like I won't be able to ever get to do a room with either of them. Which makes me sad. DARN YOU, VLR!!!!

My other complaint is selecting items to use. In 999 there was a button to quickly scroll through them (I forget exactly which), but in VLR you have to open the item screen and scroll to the item you want every single time you change items. (I'm pretty sure I've tried every button the 3ds, and none of them have worked.)

That's pretty much it for now.

And if anybody is wondering, at the first branch I went with Luna.

EDIT2: Just got my first ending.
Spoiler:
Darn it, K...! Well, I know nothing about anything, so I'll have to wait and see. I'll either hate K forever with a passion for betraying me, or I won't mind it because K got to leave <3
But it all depends on who K actually is and stuff. (For example, I still loved Ace even after he revealed himself as evil and killed everyone, just cuz he's so awesome~)

Also, Clover is still an idiot.

Hey, the Virtue's Last Reward site got a major change and actually has something besides the title. There's still not much to it though, since all of the sections are question marks right now.

http://virtueslastreward.com/

Looking at the source code, there's a hidden header that indicates there will be sections for Cast, Story, and Info (pretty standard, so no surprise), but right now those pages return 500 errors.

Why would you trust K after he betrayed Alice? Since it's pretty obvious that Clover wasn't the one who did it.

I would, but... it's kind of hard =\ I don't know the names of the endings, so I can't put something like "safe ending" or whatnot. And I obviously can't label them "the Luna kills everybody ending"/"the only Quark and Tenmyouji escape ending"/etc for obvious reasons xP (And those are just random things I made up, not endings I've gotten xP)

Anyway, Ending 2!
Spoiler:
...sort of.

"TO BE CONTINUED"~

All the spoilers so far only have spoilers for mehtastic bad ends, no major plot reveals or anything, though.

EDIT2:
Spoiler: "Golem Room"+some theorizing
WTFFFFFFFFF WHY IS THAT ROBOT TALKING?!!?!!!??!!!?!
(I thought it was Tenmyouji at first ^^')

I-I wonder... is K a robot like this? I also wonder if that plug we found will unlock K...
