Increase your style (details behind this link), but if you're trying to do it early game, it won't be worth it as the outfits there will be too expensive for you.

I knew about the style, I just thought I would get enough by getting into all the cafés. I have it by now and the stuff isn't THAT expensive. I have about 50k so with a bit more, at least I could get the pleated skirt.

50k? How did you even get that much that quickly? I can't recall having more than at most 20k that early in the game.

Amulet Coin and Battle Chateau maybe. It's actually pretty easy to get money in X/Y.

Neither of those. (I don't even know about the Amulet Coin and completely forgot the Battle Chateau) I just fought Trainers and whatever I encountered. I did sell a Star Piece I found, but that was only 7.000. It probably helps that I didn't buy a whole lot of items for a really long time. It just accumulated and most of my money just goes into buying clothes. (I love customization for characters)

X/Y is pretty easy in terms of difficulty, even with Nuzlocke rules. Also, getting your hands on a Lucario and its Megastone after the third gym? Oh and a Gen I starter with its accompanying Megastone, too, though you can't use it until later. Not that I use the mega evolutions all that much. I feel like my party's a bit overleveled right now, anyway, around Level 50. I just got the 7th Badge and ZomG, Big Bad!

Um... was it SUPPOSED to be a shock that Lysander is evil?

I honestly don't know Cat. I liked X/Y enough, but I really couldn't get invested into the story. It was just meh. That said, still better than Platinum.

Gonna assume the answer is "No" considering how blindingly obvious it is.

In fact I think I have just the thing here.

It's about as obvious as saying that Giovanni is head of Team Rocket. They don't even try to hide it. Honestly, the only one who is probably surprised was Professor Sycamore, who really kinda came across as a naive guy. Seriously, his whole "sorry I didn't recognize my friend was evil" thing he gave just made me slap my head.

Agree or disagree, but I felt that Black and White had the best writing in the series, and though the enemies are obvious, it's written very well to where it didn't bother me at all. With X and Y, it feels like they took a big step back. Team Flare, to me, just really has a lot of similarities to Team Galactic. Both were just unappealing to me.

Granted, while Gen. 1 probably has the weakest writing in the series, even they were able to give out at least a couple of decent plot twists for its time. Giovanni is the Viridian Gym Leader. You have to fight your rival after the Elite Four. While standard for today, I remember being surprised when I found out that there was someone after Lance, and it's your rival. With X and Y, there just wasn't really any shock value for me.

Heck Diantha mimics Cynthia in a lot of ways. She's the champion who helps you here and there throughout your journey. Granted, as much as I dislike Gen. 4, I do find Cynthia a heck of a lot more interesting. My favorite champion. I still enjoyed Gen. 6, but the characters, the gym leaders, the villains, it's all forgettable.

Ask me who the Gym Leaders are. Can't tell you. Don't remember the Elite Four. Heck, I can't even remember any town names. Shauna is really the only rival character I can remember because she's really the only one who stuck out. And before anyone gets on my case, I played through these games 3 times.

I still enjoyed the game and I think the music is great for the most part. It's not a bad game, but there's just so much that's forgettable. X and Y did some great things to the series, but story and characters were not one of them. That said though, I think ORAS did SO much better than X and Y.

Honestly, I hate these big world-destroying stories shoved into Pokémon. There ALREADY is a story and goal in the game: Collect Pokémon, fight and become a Champ! There's no NEED for a bigger story than that, all it does is distract from the actual point of the game. I don't want to play Pokémon to save the world from some ancient Pokémon that some looney wants to resurrect out of oh-so-well-intended views. If I did, I'd play a proper RPG like a Final Fantasy game or even Tales Of. Pokémon is for collecting and fighting. And customization in X/Y.

Nintendo, can we PLEASE go back to Gen I where the Team Rocket stuff was actually just a side-plot thing that you didn't even HAVE to finish?

Quote:

Honestly, I technically didn't know, but then I never got that far in Gen I and if someone told me Giovanni, I would have no freaking clue who they are talking about. I don't know these villains, they're basically all the same, only different designs but same actions. Nothing differentiates them from each other, you could plunk them into any of the games and, honestly, would make no difference.
I don't even properly recall the Alpha Sapphire guy's name - I mean, yeah it's Archie but calling him Stupid Blue Guy works, too.

Quote:

I don't get why people even CALL Shauna a rival. She's not a rival, she's a friend. The fact that she has the pokemon that is weak to whatever I picked just shows she's never supposed to be seen as a threat. Calem/Serena actually seem more like a Rival, simply because they have the pokémon mine is weak to AND they repeatedly fight me. I've only fought Shauna once and that was in the beginning. (I just entered Café Lysander, so if I fight her later, I'll see)

Quote:

How could that be a surprise? Obviously you'll fight your rival in the end, just one last time of you beating him to prove that you're better than him. Cause you totally didn't show that the last three times you defeated him.

@Cat: In Gen.1, you're never really told about a champion. You're just told you need to beat the Elite Four. That's why back in 1998, fighting Blue or Gary or whatever at the end after Lance was quite a shock.

As for Team Rocket, they are required to finish to move on with the game. As for Giovanni, he tells you he's the boss of his criminal organization shortly after the fourth gym.

As for the whole world destroying mess in Pokemon games, I'm not real big on it either. I understand the games want the epicness and all that, but it just seems silly. While Gen.3 did this in a sense, I give it a pass because it isn't as ridiculous. In Gen. 4, you have Gods of Time and Space, which was really just too over the top. Gen. 6, you have a weapon of mass destruction that'll destroy the planet. Again, too over the top. What bugs me about Gen.4 and 6 is that the build up just isn't really there. You're just expected to believe that any Joe Schmo can take control of these Gods or whatever and do what they want with them. It seems too Farfetch'd (haha) even in the Pokemon world to me.

At least with Gen.5, I appreciate that they took a step back and saw how absurd Gen. 4 was with its plot instead of focusing on "how can we make the bad guy even MORE insanely powerful than the last game" mentality. Since Gen. 3, at least to me, that seemed to be the trend they were following. Control of Land and Sea is more powerful than a Criminal Organization. Control of Time and Space is more powerful than Land and Sea. I guess that's why Gen. 6 kinda disappointed me, because it felt like they took a step back in that regard.

With Pokemon, I don't need to feel like the world is in danger for me to care. As bland as Team Rocket is by today's standards, it didn't bother me that they weren't out to destroy the earth. They were still a threat and were still satisfying to take down. I didn't need them controlling God to feel like a legitimate threat, but it feels like with each new game, the new designated enemy team needs to have some kind of supernatural control to pose as a threat.

Seriously, you go from plots involving kidnapping Pokemon and taking over Radio towers to conquering the land and sea and taking over time and space. I just feel that they wanted to escalate the villains and their powers too quickly.

I watched a Nuzlocke of Leafgreen and I know you have to fight Team Rocket to access all the way, but I mean you aren't necessitated to actually go into their headquarters and completely destroy them until "post-game" from what I've seen.

Quote:
Gen. 6, you have a weapon of mass destruction that'll destroy the planet.

Honestly, I find the giant Az in X/Y to be more sympathetic than Lysandre. And he barely has any screentime.

Quote:

Exactly. It's stupid to give us this goal to stop considering, really, we don't care. That's not the point of Pokémon games, nor why we play the games to begin with. We want to fight and be the best and all, we can do that just fine by going to gyms and getting badges, we don't need to prove that we're the best by saving the world - and inevitably gaining access to a legendary pokémon that doesn't seem all that amazing once we have it in our hands. (I got Yvetal or whatever it's called and I just wondered why I should use it - right now it's mostly my Fly Slave since my Sylveon is freaking awesome. Fairy type really IS overpowered it seems, I can wipe the floor with Sylveon alone.)

Uh, Cat. For Gen. 1 games and their remakes, you ARE required to beat their headquarters in Celadon and their takeover in Saffron to proceed with the game. In fact, the 8th gym is you shaming the Rocket Leader, Giovanni to go into hiding after his defeat.

You need to beat them in Celadon to get the Silph Scope.
You need the Silph Scope to access the Lavender Tower to save Mr. Fuji.
You need to save Mr. Fuji to get the Poke Flute.
You need the Poke Flute to wake up either Snorlax to gain access to Fushia City.
Their defeat here also gains you access to Silph Co. in Saffron.

As for Silph Co., you need to beat the Rockets there to access Sabrina in Saffron.

So yeah, their defeat are VERY much required if you want to continue with the game. If not, you're stuck with 4 badges the whole game, with no access to Sabrina or the whole southern section of Kanto because of the two Snorlax.

I think what you're talking about is extra post game content that was added to Leafgreen and FireRed. That stuff is not required. You just meet the Rockets again on the Sevii islands and all that part serves is as kind of a tie in between the Kanto and Johto games. You still, in the main story, HAVE to take down Team Rocket and their leader Giovanni. The post game just has leftover Rockets who are supposedly wanting to reform Team Rocket after Giovanni left, which is setting up the plot for the sequel.

Again, their true HQ is in Celadon City. I believe the HQ you're talking about is the makeshift one they make in the Sevii islands after their defeat. It's not their true HQ, especially since the game implies that they used Celadon City and the arcade as a cover for Pokemon trafficking, which is suggested that they've been doing it for years.

Kinda makes me feel guilty about purchasing that Porygon in hindsight now...

Now that I got more free time (finally!) I completed Ever 17 up to one of the endings.(The Tsugumi-Sora bad end)
The plot is rather... interesting, and you can actually see that it was written by the same guy as the Zero Escape series.(Some weird pods that can both heal people and put them in cryogenic suspension? I wonder where I heard that before...well technically this was before but you know what I mean).

I finally reached the 1700s in my playthrough of Europa Universalis IV. The Grand Muscovite Principality formally became the Russian Tsardom in the 1500s. Sometime in the 1600s, I went on a building spree, pouring whatever resources I could into trade-related buildings. All I can say is "Wow." I went from barely scraping by to being able to turn a huge profit almost full-time. Allies have come and gone. In my early years, Poland was a valuable ally, but relations soured over our competition for land in the steppes. Once they absorbed Lithuania, they became a serious threat. In the 1600s, however, their luck turned sour. The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth got caught up in simultaneous wars with France and the Ottoman Empire. What an opportunity. The Commonwealth was pretty much dog-piled twice in that century. The second time, they failed to recover and effectively disintegrated into Lithuania, Kiev, Polotsk, and Poland (although Poland still insists on calling itself the Commonwealth). These new countries (with the possible exception of Poland) seem friendly enough. Time to see if I can bring them into the Russian sphere of influence.

As for the east, expansion was slow in the early 1600s, but things are finally picking up. Unfortunately, it appears someone has gotten a little too eager in plopping settlements on every coast they find. While my own reach expanded through the Siberian wilderness, Castile placed at least one colony in the far east. I can't say I'm surprised. If memory serves, the AI was rather colony-happy in EU3, too. I couldn't care less what my rivals do in the Americas, but I swore to plant the Russian flag on the Pacific coast, and I intend to keep my word.

Edit: It's 1753. Much of the Baltic coast is now in Russian hands. It appears the British aren't very reliable allies. In the three wars I've fought to expand my control of the Baltic coast, the British have been my enemies each time. Each time, the British stood by and did nothing as their allies were crushed. Scandinavia put up an incredible fight when I invaded Finland. Had the British helped out, I probably would have lost that war. Sometimes I think there should be a "did nothing to help" relations penalty if your ally hangs you out to dry. At the least, it should deal a nasty blow to trust. Being on the verge of defeat and realizing that your allies, the only people who can turn the tide, aren't coming has got to hurt. That's a very special feeling of betrayal.

I'm playing the original Crash Bandicoot on the PS1. I'm surprised it took me this long to even start playing this game, because for a fifth-generation 3D platformer, it's pretty decent... until the difficulty starts ramping up at a ridiculous rate, where even the slightest mistake will make you lose a life, coupled with the fact that the ability to save requires you to find a hidden bonus level in each stage by breaking three specific boxes, making the distance between save points very unforgiving and downright frustrating at times... but other than that, not a bad game.

I got the Puzzle & Dragons Z + Super Mario Edition game(s). I started with the Mario one and am a bit stuck on World 3, then I went and played Z cause I wanted to see what the differences are, besides characters and elemental symbols. Apparently P&D Z is an RPG! Honestly, that surprised me, actually making an RPG around a puzzle game.

I played the demo of that and I wasn't really interested. Is it a good game? I saw some footage of the non-mario side and it looked pretty good.

I'm currently waiting anxiously to get through to any eShop to get the Smash DLC... Too many people are on atm, but I woke up for that direct...

It's fun. Both are a bit on the repetitive side and I feel like grinding seems to be an important part once you get past the "beginning" (towards the 2nd temple in Z and 3rd world in Mario Edition). Either that or I haven't figured out the clever way to level my characters yet.

I'm juggling a lot of games but currently I'm playing Link's Awakening and PW:AA Trilogy (just finished Turnabout Sisters, aka my least favorite case in the Phoenix trilogy). I had the trilogy on the DS but gave pretty much all of my games, anime and manga, music and other stuff away. It made me depressed so I bought a new 3DS a year later.

I also installed Anachronox, a JRPG homage done by western developers released back when PC gaming wasn't donimated by Steam.

Still finishing up everything in Arkham Knight. It sucks that you need to do all 200+ Riddles just to fight The Riddler. Do you even need to fight him in order to activate the Knightfall protocol?

Wait you actually physically fight the Riddler now? Seems like that would be a fairly one-sided venture.

Aww man...that's a little disappointing. Just a fight against a lot of goons. Hardly a boss fight really. :ron:

Ah well, just feel they could have done more with the Riddler.

Playing lots of Idolm@ster One For All, I got several girls who won the Idol Extreme Festival and I seem to have finished Hibiki's Ex Episode 1. So I have Pon De Beach. Yay!

Taking long to continue with my LP of Lufia - Fortress of Doom. Mostly I'm distracted by other games, but I'm also doing some grinding before doing the three color towers.
