Wanted to run through the Ace Attorney series again since I haven't done so in a couple of years. I'm midway through the first day's investigation (before court) in 1-3. However, today I scored a used copy of Ghost Trick.

From a personal standpoint, I honestly think that complaining about the censorship in XCX is pretty mundane to be honest. It doesn't affect the story, it doesn't affect the gameplay, and it doesn't affect the characters in any way. It's just one option in customization that doesn't really matter in the slightest, and what, one costume out of the hundreds that are available in the game???

If the internet didn't blow up over something this small in the first place, I know it's something I would have easily missed because it's something that doesn't matter to me. I know it matters to other people, but I personally think it's still silly that people, despite having a high interest in this game, are never going to play it because of something so tiny that doesn't even matter.

I'd understand if it affected the story or gameplay in some way, but it doesn't. I don't even view it as censorship considering you can still get some pretty skimpy swimsuits for your characters. I just see it more as a localization decision.

To put this another way, this would be like if in the Japanese version of Mario, Peach work a skirt, but they changed it to a dress for everyone else. It's not going to affect how Mario plays. It's not going to affect the characters in any way. It's still the same game, just with a changed aesthetic, and that's how I view the change for Lin's costume in XCX. If anything, my only minor, minor gripe is that I wished that the replacement outfit would have been a little more unique.

You can't avoid Hotti in the game, though. You need to interact with him to finish the case.

It's still censorship whether you personally think it's a big deal or not. :yogi:

On one hand it's not a big deal for me either (the swimsuit thing I could sort of see because of what I mentioned above but the boob slider, while not too important, is a dumb thing to cut), but on the other, I can understand people being pissed about content being cut from their games.

In the end it's up to personal values as to whether something being censored ruins a game enough to where you don't want to buy it, but if you don't get it, I'd say definitely contact the company to let them know exactly why you're not getting it rather than let them assume people just don't want to buy that kind of game.

I just think it's silly because I've seen so many people complain about the small amount of cut content in XCX, but then those same people will turn around and play Chrono Trigger or FF6 on their SNES, which had way more censorship and what not and praise those games like no tomorrow. It's more the fact too that I'd rather see consistency when these complaints arise rather than hypocrisy.

But still, growing up with games that were heavily censored, something like this just seems silly to complain about.

Yeah like I said it's about what is a meaningful change to someone. It might not matter in the grand scheme of things to you and I Dullahan.

Though like you said Franzise its down to personal values, if someone has a 0 tolerance stance on censorship then it does matter how small the change might be. It's what the change represents that matters and the concept of censorship is one that is worth standing against on its own.

Perosnally it's just a localisation process to me but its not to Blak and I can respect that.

Why do you worry about FFxSMT though? Do you think its likely to be prone to censorship? They didn't stop you breeding with Nowi (who looks physically about 8-13) in Awakening, or are the other fire emblem games or SMT games bad for it.

Why it was wrong? Grammar. You are referring to yourself in third-first person, meaning it is Me and not I. Even saying things like, "This picture is one of me and (person)" is where you are referring to yourself indirectly, so it is I. Contrary, things like someone saying "I pick you" and the questioning answer would be "Why I?", referring to yourself directly.

There's probably a much fancier way of explaining it with big grammar words and what not, but that's the simple way I can think of explaining it.

Anyhow, I'm in Xillia at the Felgana Mine...
Now, Jude (and other posters) ... exactly what part of "Let's take a handicapped person, in a wheelchair, into a mine full of very narrow, uneven shafts" sound remotely like a good idea? If it was a well-established, bright mine with floorplanks to make for even ground, I might understand it. But as it is? There is NO reason, why Milla should be in my party right now.
Paralyzed legs or not, she should have remained in the Mathis Clinic and rested.

Because then people who chose Milla's path first would get to enjoy a wonderful sequence of Milla sitting in a wheelchair and doing nothing until Jude and Leia come back. Which would make the whole "two protagonists" thing even more pointless.

Which is why I said to not even start such a stupid, pointless subplot, if it won't work out. Sure, her legs are healed now, but it feels like this served no purpose. They could have given us a different reason for going to Leronde or to get Leia into our party. As it is, it did nothing but lead to 1 awkward 'romantic' scene.

And, honestly, how does this work on the Milla side? No worries, Milla, we'll push you through here-Oh! Hang on, there's a battle. You just sit back and watch. Honestly, I'd rather be forced to stay in the Mathis Clinic and likely see some awesome medical emergency show going on. :ron: Hey, Milla enjoys watching humans and what better location to play a round of people-watching than a hospital?

All the exposition that occurred while Milla was unconscious gets skipped over and Jude remains playable. So, exactly the same as Jude's path, but worse.

I never thought Alisha was the heroine. :will: I just thought Sorey and Mikleo would, at best, get the usual amount of HoYay hints throughout the game (like Jude and Ludger, Namco, I am believing Jude-Milla less and less by the minute~ *coughAsukatethercough*) but nothing ever going beyond that.

Oh, joy. Namco, your plan for two protagonists fucking fails - later on, sure, you skip A TON of stuff from Jude's path cause Milla is, you know, somewhere else. But seriously? Less shoving together, more diversity. (At the very least, make it not possible for me to fight as Milla on Jude's path, what's the point of playing Milla's route then?)

Finished Final Fantasy VII. I played a little bit of this game back when the (original!) PC version was released, but this was basically the first time I played (and finished) a main FF title (FFTA being the only other FF title I ever played). I did use a FAQ, because I was just playing it to experience the story, and didn't want to invest too much time in it. Some parts of the game feel a bit outdated, but there's also a lot to enjoy. There's some great music, and the backgrounds designs are great (especially Midgar and the slums). The first part of the game set in Midgar is a great section in general, introducing the city and its inhabitants in a high-paced adventure (even if a bit on rails).

Yeah but they quickly throw the rails off (I say Quickly I suppose I mean, most of the game is outside Midgar). I was also a really big fan of the materia combination system. Allowed for some interesting tricks.

Definitely an interesting system, but it did basically make everyone very interchangeable in terms of function (with limit breaks being too irregular to be real game changers).

As long as I get boobs, Japanese Idols, Chrom's rapier that he uses in every Fire Emblem game, and that Tiki calls me Onii-chan then it should be a game worth getting.
If no dual-audio, then Blak is a very sad panda. I don't hate dubs, but I just like Japanese seiyuu more. Cause I'm a weab. But I'll probably still get it if the above conditions are met.

Yeah, I always consider it a problem if a game starts off pretty epically and then gives the player the downtime after... like, you make me go through something awesome and now I am supposed to go through blandness for 1 or 2 hours, just so I can 'calm down'? How about you make the beginning less action-y or work on your pacing?

Call me a weeaboo or whatever, I think Japanese voice-acting with an originally Japanese game just makes more sense. Because the lines are more natural, with the culture being different and them having words that just don't work in English (Otsukaresama or Yoroshiku, for example). Not to mention, Japanese often includes minor details that are just not noticeable in English - like the honorifics, the lack of calling someone by their first name or adding an honorific to it, indicating a small, but audible distance between the two characters.

That was honestly one of my biggest complaints with the game too. It takes away a bit of strategy imo. I prefer the Final Fantasies where the characters are put in a more designated role to where they feel more unique. Still though, I did enjoy Final Fantasy 7 enough.

What irks me is when a translation chooses to localize (name)-chan as an idiotic sounding nickname. I don't mind translators dropping the honorifics provided the setting is a culture that makes no sense to have them (like if the work was set in England or something), but they should definitely try to keep the same feel the honorifics give in either the dialogue or the non-verbals. Just don't turn -chan into a stupid sounding nickname.

One of the reasons I'm liking Witch Hunt's translation of Umineko so much. The honorifics are kept mostly intact, but they give you a handy guide to what the honorifics mean (the main exceptions I'm seeing are "Ojii-sama" being translated to "Grandfather" and the like).

True but late game super weapons make people a bit more unique. For example Yuffie's works on the principle that it does more damage against stronger enemies. So you can have her use the Mime Materia to convert enemies into items with massive hits if using that weapon (normally Mime nerfs the damage of your weapon).

I quite liked Deathblow/Added Attack as a materia combo. At least early game before you learn the likes of doublecut. Either I get a critical and a bonus attack or just a bonus attack. It's win win.

I'd say the characters being interchangeable almost works in their favour too. Means you can use the ones you like as opposed to the ones that "work".

Yep, I used D.Blow + Added Attack too. With Tifa, who had some weapon which had a high accuracy, giving me a basically guaranteed critical hit + extra hit.

I agree that being interchangeable has its ups (few 'cons' to switching midway), but while this is probably different for everyone, I feel more inclined to 'try out' a characer if they have unique skills. With FF7, I basically stuck with my initial choices (save for... a certain demise), because once I felt comfortable with those characters, there was no (mechanical) reason for wanting to switch again.

So I am finally playing Undertale. I have to say, I have been really liking the game so far, I have been spoiled on a few aspects before but I am still enjoying a lot of stuff in the game, the gameplay (specifically the bullet dodging parts) are surprisingly good for an RPG, and I love how meta the game can get sometimes.

Yeah I would quite enjoy a 'traditional' RPG with those mechanics. Though in general I'm a sucker for most RPGs that mix together some tiny...TINY action elements in the attacks. Legend of Dragoon, the Mario RPGs, hell Sonic Chronicles even. It just makes so much of a difference when you can enhance/dodge attacks via mechanics.

How far through are you anyway?

I'm at the beginning of the "Hotland" area, this is my first time playing so I am doing a Neutral run (sparing some stuff, killing everything else including the bosses). Guess I'll go for the pacifist ending after I'm done.

Playing the final episode of Umineko. The first part is beginning to remind me of Professor Layton though.

Eh I guess the days of innocence for this game are gone, when people just played it without having a mindset about what order they want the endings in.

In all fairness, the order is kind of important, considering that one of the endings flat-out disables another.

Hush now General. That surprise is the exact part and parcel of the experience I am talking about. It makes your choices truly matter because of it.

Honestly? If I played a game and learned that what I did flat out removed ANY chance for me to get an ending (or something else important), I wouldn't call that an experience. I'd be pissed as fuck and call that a huge, annoying flaw in the game. You shouldn't HAVE to delete your save file and any memory of the game off your computer/console, just so you can actually 100% the game and not be told, "No, no, I remember your face. Not letting you do this."

It's the same as putting a self-imposed challenge into the game, just to get some proper difficulty out of it. The player shouldn't have to restrict themselves in order to be 'allowed' to get everything in the game.
