It is a fantastic game, though, especially in the Nintendo in-jokes and references alone. I mean, "I AM ERROR", hidden posters/plushes of past Paper Mario characters and Nintendo consoles, and a Nerd chemeleon who puts Peach in a dating sim? Definate win.

One of my favorite references ir probably the bit about Grodus and the X-Nauts, the main bad guys from Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, getting their own television series. That, and Francis reviewing anime he hasn't even seen.

Uhh.....both? Everything happens in real-time now, so it feels a lot more Mario-esque than previous entries in the series, but it still contains stuff like hit points, status effects, items, the "parnter" characters, and so on and so forth. The concept is definitely solid, but I'd say there's clear room for improvement in the design. I love the way they handle the RPG-platformer hybrid, but, personally, neither half of the coin has really felt delved into enough. The platformer aspects are a bit more relaxed and slower than strict Mario platformers, and the RPG elements are shallower and the levels shorter than what was offered in previous Paper Marios. So as a result it neither feels like an excellent platformer nor an excellent RPG, but for some reason it all combines to be a worthwhile experience overall. If they fix the character-balancing issues (Peach is nigh-useless) and add some more meat to the level structures, the next game in the series should really shape up to be something special.

Yes, Luigi is playable, though he joins the party fairly late into the game. He has the highest natural jump, and his unique ability is the "Spring Jump" technique from TTYD.
Also, this topic needs more Francis.

Also, I've recently come across a VERY annoying thing in-game. So annoying, I had to make up a new swear word just to show my immense frustration. Whatever you do, NEVER USE THE RETURN PIPE AFTER 8-1!
Be very careful not to go there without EVERYTHING YOU CAN GET.

The game does warn you several times before you enter the door to be totally prepared before you go in. Besides, with some smart playing and keeping an eye out for hidden chests and areas, you shouldn't have a problem keeping up your health (unless you're horribly underleveled or something).
And even then, I barely lost any HP in that level, boss fights included. Hell, one of them gives you a healing item if you pick the correct response.

I went with two Super Shroom Shakes, one Ultra Shroom Shake, one Shroom Shake, and six Whacka's Bumps, and I still couldn't make it, even with all the items spread out through the chapter (damn... whatever those rock-elephant hybrids are). Although I did choose Amazy Daisy on the last thing for some bonus points, but the slightest tip up on the d-pad made me go through the door RIGHT as I was about to kill it.
