I was wondering about Devil May Cry should I buy it or not? I mean I heard the game is awesome and Dante is freaking cool with his actions but should I really buy it?, and more important how much does it cost?
BTW sorry for the double post I just need to explain these things.

Get the second one first, trust me. Its the worst in the series and if you play them in order (like most of my friends did) you will think that DMC2 is atrocious (which it is), but if you play it first you can actually enjoy it.

Get the 25$ish collectors edition for the PS2, it has all three games in it. Highly worth getting.

Well its not really that bad, its just so weak in comparison to the other DMC games. Its way too easy, Dante is less of a badass in the game, the game also splits the lead role between Dante and a lame female character who throws knives. Also the game has the lamest enemies in the series (one boss fight is against a possessed helicopter, another is against a possessed building <_< )

I'm not sure, because I never really thought of it until now. I will check it out tomorrow if EB Games has it on stock.

Yea, get the collectors edition, some of the most bad ass fighting in gaming next to Ninja Gaiden.

Having played all 3 I don't see Devil May Cry 2 being that bad. Lucia sucked something vicious but the game was decent enough to hold everyone off until 3 came out.
I wouldn't play 2 first though, you may be pissed cause you can't do some of the things you could do in 2 when you go back to play 1. Enjoy it like everyone else did.

I only played and beated DMC3 because well... it was my girlfriend that introduced the series to me and it just happened to be when she bought DMC3 Collector's edition. But I saw her play 1 and 2 and yes, 1 seemed better, I have yet to play them though, I should borrow her copies.
Anyway, start with whichever you want to start first.

I've played all 3 games and I LOVE this series. And I can't wait for the 4th game to come out. The game mechanics are extremely fun and all the different weapons and DT (devil trigger) powers are fun to use and combo up with. Like everyone else has said, 2 does kinda stink. It is still fun to play but the story kinda, well, lacks. I did like that you could play 3 different characters, it made it interesting to see what all powers, etc. they could use. 1 and 3 are definitely my faves though. Especially, 3, since it's a prequel and you get to learn more about Dante's brother Virgil. Not to mention play as him as well after you beat the game the first time.

So start with whichever one you want, it's up to you. And have fun.

Should I play the first three games before getting the fourth? Is there a heavily involved story following the series so much so that I must play the games in chronological order?

For anyone who has played Devil May Cry:

I have seen trailers of Devil May Cry and I think I´ll buy it someday but could someone fill me in with some details?

Like, are Devil May Cry games very long or very short? I don´t like games that end after playing six hours. How much is the amount of blood? I think that it´s cool but my parents don´t want me to play games where you have to spill blood as much as you can.

They usually last about a max of 4-6 hours, from when I played them. And there is blood, but not too much, but it's been awhile since I played them.

If anyone has played "Ninja Gaiden" for the Xbox or PS3, the gameplay is kinda simmilar to DMC, so if you like DMC you'll most likly enjoy NG, get NG:B for the Xbox or NG:S for the PS3, they are the best versions for said consoles.

Edit: Once you get really good at the game you can do stuff like this (which BTW, I can't do this) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8Y2mQhgu_o

You'll play as a new character in this one, I think. It may be good to play the others, but I don't think it's actually nessessary.

1. The gameplay is pretty long, I'd say about ten to thirteen hours.
2. I'm afraid you're out of luck. Though not a lot of blood in the gameplay, the cutscenes do show a lot of violence and blood.

Hm, well, considering all three are now Greatist hits. You could probably get all three for around $70. Probably cheaper at a Gamestop.

It justed depends on if the games are new or used. If they are new, they'll go by the retail price. If used, they'd probably mark down the price a bit, more if there's no instuction booklet.

I may after I get and finish the DMC greatest hits collection. (that will take me some time... :nick:)
Spoiler: Devil May Cry 4 spoiler
I heard in DMC4 Dante is the bad guy or main rival and Dante is trying to get his power back from Nero.

I dislike this series because it is popular. Also, avoid Devil May Cry 2, absolute disgrace.

My opinion is very strange. I consider Devil May Cry 1 not only bad, but the absolute worst video game ever created in the medium's entire history. Forget E.T. or Big Rigs. they're nothing compared to it.

DMC2 was just meh. A dry storyline perhaps.

Luckily DMC3 is awesome. It fixed problems of both previous entires. Particularly, DMC1's environments being far too small to allow significant parrying/dodging. And DMC2's bland character interaction.

Haha, tool. :franny:

I love DMC but I wish it would bring a little more consistency. Dante's characterization has changed for every installment (including the manga and anime) and the second game was a bizarre disappointment. It's a good thing that DMC4 is looking to be pure awesome. If it can repeat the good gameplay and difficulty from DMC3 while giving it a decent story this time around, it should turn out fantastic.
