ffVII
ffVIII
parasite eve
twewy

and that's it

I'm pretty sure a good portion of the designs of the main characters in VII are based off of Yoshitaka Amano sketches. He worked with some other guy on the designs in TWEWY, so they're not all his. VIII's main character is Gackt in a leather jacket.

Hey tis all a matter of opinion ya? Personally I think he's a brilliant artist with his designs. I especially like the artwork of all the Turks, Cloud and Sephiroth for Before Crisis but his Kingdom Hearts work is good too.

But @Dullahan Personally I wouldn't think belts were his thing....more zips...you can see zips freaking everywhere on characters in KHII.
And his unusual clothing choices actually worked for TWEWY due to the fact it was trying to create a diverse unusual society where fashion and standing out was a big thing so I think in that case it worked well....

I still think Sora's oversized shoes are a stupid choice though but it's Disney so it works.

Protip: it's not an a "diverse and unusual society where fashion and standing out was a big thing"

Shibuya is a real life place.

And it's just like that. Image

Except the real goofy teenage fashion trends tend to be nowhere near as ridiculous. (occasional lie)

The part where he starts going on about the orphanage is kind of hysterical.

Also Herr Blondie, I guess I cannot really deny that Nomura's designs didn't fit into TWEWY, since they did-- and exceptionally so.

There's a reason why I absolutely hate Nomura's designs.

Although I will start respecting him if he admits that he is only doing this to bang American jailbait.

I finished Final Fantasy III last monday. I must say that it's an idotic thing to not have any saves in the dungeon. It's like a pretty long dungeon + 5 bosses before you can fight the last boss. But atleast I took it on the first try with my two Ninjas, Devout and Sage in level 61.

III was made back in the days when programmers' primary goal when making games was to make them as hard as possible before it got to the point where players would start breaking their controllers.

Actually, the difficulty in the DS version was toned down from the Famicom version. Tells you how much of a pain in the ass the original was.

But whats your beef with Nomura Hatman?

-The ruination of FF and Square.
-The lack of anything remotely original in his designs from game to game (Again, TWEWY was kind of okay, but he had someone else help him with the designs).

And it doesn't help that I've pretty much hated a great portion of his repertoire.

Again, I'd respect him if he were to admit he's only drawing effeminate uninteresting male characters to land some jailbait.

Yeah, some of the hardest dungeons with the splitters turned out quite easy with the 3 enemy per limit deal. I was sad though that they also had to nerf some classes too since the difficulty was toned down. I didn't even use a sage since I liked my level 3 summons too much. The ninja was still alright though and I found the summoner and devout a lot more useful.

I know that it was made a long time ago. But how hard could it been to put in some save crystals or something in the DS remake?

No idea. Apparently they wanted to go for a full-fledged remake. Thankfully the dungeons weren't as long and gruesome like FFII with no save points and they eventually got it right with FFIV with putting save points in the dungeon. It got on my nerves too when I needed to save because I had something to do and I was smack dab in the middle of a dungeon. I remember fighting those four optional bosses before getting to Dark Cloud wondering what would happen if I died and found all that time I spent in the final dungeon was wasted. I'm thankful that didn't happen, but I'm sure its happened to quite a few. :/

Me.

Traded it in soon after.

@Hatman

Whats so unoriginal about his work? Is it horribly similar to another artist? :yuusaku:

And Amano is well worse when it comes to effeminate male characters. His Amarant drawing and Steiner drawing are some of the rare ones.

I absolutely love his sketches of Terra the most. I recall reading somewhere that she was his favorite character to draw too and it really shows.

Well nearly all Amano's men look like women unless they have some heavy armour or something to cover their face.

I mean the third picture in Pickens post "him" while I love the fact Tidus looks a bit beaten up and ragged he's even MORE FEMININE! I hated that normally but when Amanonised it's just....ugh stabworthy.

I think the only male character taht looks the most femenine in Amano's illustrations has to be Bartz from FFV. But his FFIV illustrations are my favorite.

Huh, but... Femininity or masculinity has nothing to do with it. It's just how Amano has always drawn. His ideas can come through really well, looking unique and interesting.

His paints are incredible, even.

The one thing that annoyed me about Nomura was, as pretty and shiny his characters are to look at, they all have that same effeminate FACE. Just flip the hairstyle or change the color, and voilà, instant new character. Also, the way he designs outfits, it's always chains, belts, zippers, leather, and pouches galore.

Nomura is the Japanese Rob Liefeld.

*Sigh* :sadshoe: Oh well I still like Nomura's art quite a bit and the horrible effemininity of Amano's art does bother me quite a bit, though I do like the Golbez drawing on the front of FFIV remakes case.

@LySs: I don't see how you can complain about effemininate characters while Amano still exists. Nomura worked on character designs for FFX and yes while Tidus is a woman deep down he mans up in comparison to Amano's sketch. Remember Nomura gave us manly characters like Auron :gant-clap2: Wakka :gant-clap2: and Kimahri. The zips pouches and belts phase I feel only really came to light after Kingdom Hearts

Overdone, and sure Lulu's dress is belts but it's only one character in that game, it's not like the entire cast of FFX were marched through a goth and punk store before the game besides she's a dark moody and quite gothic character it gives her a distinct look with black leather.

But yeah effeminate characters are overdone, prettyboys and dark loner emos. We need more men like Wakka and Auron well visually no one can be as awesome as Wakka was. A badass with a scar less little kids like Tidus or she-men like Kuja. I just couldn't take Kuja seriously cause his dress was so ridiculous.

Plus I was mortified to discover what a girl Cecil looked like without his helmet when he was so cool and badass before.

Topic revival. :o

I always thought Cecil reminded me of Griffith from Berzerk, so even though he did look effeminate, he still kicked ass.

Wow Phoenix Downs work on threads too?

I don't have Dissidia yet but I really want it,....though first I need a PSP heh.

And I wasn't fond of Cecil's appearence as a Dark Knight he was bad ass but then he turned into...such a woman. It's one reason I don't like Amano's artwork most of his stuff is very feminine even the men.

Kefka is terrible and there's no Gilgamesh, which are both pretty unforgivable, but the game is decent otherwise.

Why the hell was Bombing Mission picked as the extra VII tune instead of J-E-N-O-V-A, though?

Terra is obviously the best character. Great speed and jumping (not as great as Onion Knight's of course but still), and Flood, Meteor, Blizzara, Tornado, Meltdown, and Holy-Flare-Ultima are all fantastic attacks.

I know it is a mockery that Gilgamesh isn't in it.

In Dissidia, Square Enix guys insert only the characters (protagonist and antagonist) from the first one to the X! :damon:

Maybe because from the first to the X all FF are fantastic, the XI is "anonim" (sorry, but it is...maybe I say this because I don't like World of Worcraft and MMORPGs), the XII...well, I played and it is funny :gant:

:objection:

Gabranth and a small girl from FFXI are unlockable characters in Dissidia!.

Though I though XII was quite poor.

But Gilgamesh is a recurring character throughout FF's I should think he'd be worthy too.

I can just picture a nice little optional story where he goes and beats up Cloud/Squall/Tidus etc to take their swords to replace his replicas'

He's available as a summon I think (At least I saw his name on a complete list of summons). Also, you can get his friend card with a password supplied by Squenix. But as a playable character, no.

I'm pleased to see all the nomura hate in here. God he's such a talentless hack. His art isn't even as bad as his writing either. I am floored that the man got to such a high position within Squeenix.

I'll admit, he does draw well. As for his taste in character design though, I'd say it's just terrible. Give me Amano any day.

And I haven't played Dissidia due to the lack of a PSP, but why are you saying Kefka is terrible? Did they just derail his character completely?

His character is okay, but his attacks are too hard to hit other than Havoc Wing.
