I don't actually remember seeing a topic about the series as a whole so fuck, why not? I've played all the games in the main series with exception of Zero and I've been replaying the shit out of them in anticipation of Resi 5's release next month, just finished the second game today (Leon A).

Spoiler: Resi 2 End Game
LMAO at Annette getting owned by the pipes.

I've seen several members make reference to the series before so go nuts.

Did you play RE: Gaidan?

Anywho, i don't think there has been a RE topic, so your safe.

Bleh, i have a weakness for RE games, but i can play Zombie Panic fine (since i know it's real people controlling the zombies)

The lesson here is, i don't like horror games, for the exception of Zombie Panic (i find Zombie Panic funny actually)

I've only played RE: Gaidan (GBC) and RE: Deadly Silence (DS).

I've played the old PS1 RE 1 when ps1 games had the big box containers. Then the DS remake of it. I played and beaten RE 2 on N64. Briefly played RE 3.

The one I first owned was RE gaiden. I own 4 on gamecube and on wii. And I have my reserve for 5 already.

RE was my first horror series I have ever played and one of my favorites. Although cheesy as hell the story actually was interesting. Maybe not at first but how the future games and movies made the past story more interesting as it made references to it.

My first horror was Blood Omen(I don't think I touched that dracula game for SegaCD before that), then Silent Hill and then Resident evil.

I saw RE from my brother, I had maps for RE2 from a mag(I was using it for something else), I had rented RE3 because I wanted 2 and they didn't have that. Now for owning the games, it was RE:make first, REC:VX for PS2,RE2 & 3 for GCN, RE4 for GCN and Wii, RE:DS, and RE:DA(Not 100% in the right order) I Pre ordered RE5 around when I was late on pre ordering SFIV.

Who else is so unbelievably excited about Wesker in HD glory?

Image

He is clearly the best character in the series... no doubt he and Chris will go at it!

My favourite is RE2, closely followed by Code Veronica X.

To be honest, all of the main games are pretty awesome, possible exceptions are 3 and 0, which just aren't as good as the others.

In order of the main games: 2 > Code Veronica X > 4 > 1 (REmake preferably) > 0 > 3.

Mercenaries mode on 4 is quality too... Wesker on the castle level dominated my summer 2 years ago.

Bumped with some new Resi news.

First off, a sequel to Umbrella Chronicles has been announced for the Wii, Biohazard: the Darkside Chronicles. To my eternal delight, Resi 2 is one of the scenarios in this game, as is Code: Veronica it seems.

Second is the additional DLC for Resi 5. This adds new competative multiplayer modes. Explanations of these modes here. I'm not sure about a release date for the DLC, but I presume that it'll drop at the same time as the game.

I recently got RE4 Wii Edition. It's good, it's so good.

Darkside Chronicles better not be the big Resi announcement they've been pimping... I wanted RE2make for Wii, not another Wii rail shooter! :larry:

I've only played 4 and Umbrella Chronicles, but nice to see UC get a sequel. I quite enjoyed it. ^_^ (Even if I had half a clue as to what was going on...)

Oh, and Ada Wong has to be my personal fave character of the series. She just rocks.

Fix'd. No more exclusivity plz.

And Takeuchi was talking about remaking RE2 after Resi 5 drops so it's still hopeful.

Omg, a next-gen REmake of Resi 2 might just make my life. I loooooovvveeee that game.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5SdZJ6LfQk :yogi:

My copy of 5 was dispatched yesterday! Might even be with me today...

In other news, high score od 75,879 achieved on Wesker mercenaries on the castle level on RE4 Gamecube edition!

Gotta spring out the REmake, 2, 3 and Code Veronica once I'm done with 5.

Does anyone else find Umbrella Chronicles stupidly hard? I can't do the final Wesker level!

^Lucky bastard. XD Me and my best mate are picking it up after school. Resi with vodka and pizza. <: Should be fucking fun.

More on Darkside Chronicles, here's a trailer.

Scroll down a bit.

Also scans from Famitsu: http://gonintendo.com/?p=75405

Shockingly, it looks like the games being built from the ground up. No using the maps from OutBreak. Doesn't seem to many (if any) recycled character models from UC so it looks like CAPCOM's putting a bit more effort into this one.

I wonder why they are doing another RE rail shooter for the Wii, considering the control scheme in RE:4 worked so well...

There was probably demand for it. Umbrella Chronicles was good, and RE2 was my favourite out of the series so combining the two is win win for me. <:

That said, I'd much prefer a RE2make. Which given Takeuchi's comments is on the way.

I didn't say it was awful or anything, I just meant it could be a tiny bit better.

As for where I'm up to....
Spoiler: chapter 3-2
I'm literally outside the Tricell refinery, its not too hard but having to fight another chainsaw Majini after already fighting one, can be a pain :/

BTW, I've NEVER played the first RE, so is it worth getting teh DS remake, or should I just wait for the REmake to hit the Wii?

If you can get hold of the GC version of the REmake, it's incredible so do it! If not, wait for the Wii release.

That Darkside Chronicles looks great! I'll be up to my braaaiiinnnsss in rail shooters (getting HOTD:Overkill) this week.

RE 5 is FANTASTIC! So awesome. I love it. But I have de-equipped Sheva completely. She is now my item whore. It works quite well actually

During summer 1998, when I bought my PS1 and then bought the first RE (Director's Cut Dual Shock version, it was in a sale, cost me nearly half the actual price - about six months later I scored RE2 Dual Shock too), I remember almost pissing my pants when I came back to the mansion after clearing the guardhouse -- the FMV with the first Hunter following your sorry ass and opening the back door scared me shitless. Suffice it to say that, not knowing that this new threat was, and scared as hell (not carrying healing items and with my health in reddish Caution), I scarpered from there to the save room with the gardening stuff under the stairs ON THE OTHER FRICKIN' SIDE OF THE MANSION (my brain was in idiot overdrive), and saved the game and turned it off until two days later. Admittedly, it was nearly midnight that time, and when I picked the game back up, I did it during noon, but still. =p

I just beat RE 5 last night. It was pretty good! Sadly it never was scary, there was a lot of creepy areas however. There may have been one or two jump moments but they were either cause I didnt see them when they attacked or just me paying half attention.

Just beat RE5 tonight on normal mode. I really enjoyed it! Before I'd only plaedy RE4 and a very small bit of RE2. If they do remake 2 I hope they do it multi-platform because I'm already missing out on all the Chronicles games by not owning a Wii!!

Now I just have to try out my headset and do some online co-op~

I managed to unlock Professional Mode yesterday and all I can say is: do not fuck around. Even with the melee armor on, I still got downed by one hit of a Majini's bottle and even then, you die three seconds later. Pack a fully upgraded handcannon. It makes quick work of the big guys that take forever to die.

Also, anyone found all the emblems yet?

Anybody got all the characters for Mercs yet?

Ooh, I do! Playing as Wesker is just about the best thing ever. His quotes are all full of win.

I've only found about 11 of the emblems though. I've had to use the guidebook because they're so random. My first playthrough I only spotted the one they point out for you. Then I'll have to go through again looking for treasure...

But I finally unlocked Infinite Ammo on the L. Hawk which should make things much easier~

Maybe I'll do that too. Probably make things a lot easier on me.

Was anybody else disappointed that they didn't have a S.T.A.R.S version of Jill? I mean, Chris and Wesker have one...

I've only played RE4 and Umbrella Chronicles. I can do RE4 OK, but on Chronicles I can't seem to kill the third boss (the one in the level after the one that has a giant bat as the end boss). I keep driving it back in to the sunlight, but the blasted thing won't die. :karma-scream:

Very true.

Also, another random RE-lated (hurr hurr puns) anecdotes:

When I finally bought my Dual Shock Edition copy of RE2, I didn't know how the ClaireX/LeonY scenario system worked. So I happily went on my way finishing the Claire A game (which I already knew, having rented that disc before). But when the cleared save file wrote Leon B, I was mildly miffed and at a loss a little bit. Never would I have suspected it'd take me through all the shit Leon was doing while Claire was onscreen, and with even less probability I'd have imagined I'd encounter such an asshole like Mr. X (Tyrant v2.0) stalking me kinda every step of the way. Thankfully, he disappeared the moment you went through a door, so once I knew where he'd appear, I'd always approach the spawn point walking backwards, so I could dash to the entrance door ASAP... Which they "corrected" with the Nemesis on RE3. -_-

Incidentally, speaking of RE3, it wasn't until about my third or fourth playthrough that I discovered a nifty little fact about Nemesis himself -- you all know how he's got an attack that he grabs you by the face and whirls you around like a piece of rag? Well, while toying with him in a joke playthrough, I discovered he's left-handed -- meaning, as long as he hasn't transformed and hasn't got his rocket launcher with him, you can attempt to run past him by his RIGHT side and he won't be able to do anything to you. If you wanna get the three special items you get for defeating him the first three times you see and fight him (out of all seven, not counting boss appearances), this is the easiest way out that allows you to conserve the most health and waste less ammo. =D Of course, if you're trying to outrun him, this also helps quite a lot, as you know which way to turn without taking any damage from him. =D

How, exactly? [...]

Allow me to quote from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Devil May Cry began its development life as a Resident Evil 4 title for PS2, after the completion of Resident Evil 3, under the direction of Hideki Kamiya and "Team Little Devil". Early research and development work included a trip to Spain, to examine various castles as a basis for the game's environments. However, in prototype status, the game proved to be a radical departure from the established Resident Evil formula and the survival horror genre in general. Rather than abandon the project entirely, the premise was changed and the game eventually became Devil May Cry. Some of the major gameplay elements were partially inspired by a bug found in Onimusha: Warlords. During a test-play, Kamiya discovered that enemies could be kept in the air by slashing them repeatedly, which lead to the inclusion of juggles by gunfire and sword strikes in Devil May Cry.

According to Kamiya, Devil May Cry was designed from the ground up around Dante's acrobatics and combat abilities. The decision was made late in the development process to change the game to a more mission-based advancement, instead of the more open-ended structure of the Resident Evil games. Devil May Cry's difficulty was intentional, according to Kamiya, who called it his "challenge to those who played light, casual games."
