Ultra Ball > Dogs
Dusk Ball > Lugia

And that's all I got so far. I hate using the Master Ball because it looks so nice in my inventory. Like a collector's item.

For some reason, I get the feeling it's not the 3rd one.

I used Dusk balls to catch every legendary I've caught in SoulSilver. It's more work, but it feels much more fulfilling when you finally catch the damned thing.
(And on another side note, I caught ZAPDOS! Hell yes!)

Actually, I got them all from winning the lottery in Diamond, you can get Master Balls that way. Though I admit I was exaggerating when I said I caught most of the legendaries with them. Just the roaming ones like Entei, Raikou, and Latias because those would've been a pain.

I think I might've used Dusk Balls for the rest, can't remember...

I beated the gmae on a rom, so out of guilt i went out and bought the game. This time, to make it harder, I started with chikorita.
Why did I get an arceus figure instead of lugia? Especially when i already have one.
pokewalker=fun novelty and actually makes peopole do exersise. seriously, when i went to an event, there was some seriously obese 9 year old there, think of that dancing dude from youtube. (not numa numa)

YAAA~AAAY I finally got it! I've played up to Ruins of Alph and - what, no discussion about the Pokewalker? I walked diligently with it for a while before thinking "Frick this shiz" and bouncing it around the room, but I think it's really awesome. The music is awesome if a little overenthusiastic, and the nostalgia meter is cranked up to full - especially when your mum asks you if you remember how to operate the phone (I think I almost screamed at my DS "YES! YES, I DO! YAAAAAAAY!")

I didn't know there was anyone in the entire world who didn't seriously pick Cyndaquil as their starter for Johto 'part from me XD

I absolutely adore the Pokemon following you around - whenever I turned around and talked to mine I always squealed at the comment on how my Pokemon was doing. So much effort has gone into those little messages - Pokemon are psyched-up in a Gym, happy after they successfully defeat someone, and happy just after they learn a move. Pokemon like Spearow and Sentret are happy to splash around in water while Cyndaquil and Geodude get depressed and really pissed off if you leave them in there for too long; other Pokemon aren't interested in Sudowoodo, but Geodude is as it's a fellow Rock-type Pokemon; Bellsprout dance in Sprout Tower; Geodude is scared of heights... the list goes on and on. Also the little "emotes" are just too adorable~

By the way, where do you get berries other than in the Pokewalker - and are there contests? There's a separate compartment for berries in the bag, the Pokemon have a 'ribbon' section, and my Geodude randomly picked up a Shiny Leaf which I assume is for the dress-up portion of the contests. But I haven't found any anywheeere...

The mom will give you certain berries everytime you save a certain amount of money. There are no contests, but there's a thing called the Pokeathlon which is way more fun, I'm not sure if you get ribbons from there though.

The Shiny Leaf is NOT an accessory, it is a special item all to itself. What you do is you have a Pokemon find 5 of them and show it to Lyra/Ethan. Once you do, she/he will put a star on the trainer card and give you a Leaf Crown. Which I think is some accessory.

It's so easy to train, I just battle the Elite 4 over and over and over.

Also, when rematching Gym Leaders, you can do it as many times as you want in one day as long as it's the right time on the right day of the week.

I fought Falkner 10 times in a row this morning.

Just visited the Safari Zone, and it was exciting how much they hyped it up, then I played it and remembered it's still the same frustrating game where all the good Pokemon can't be caught and run away. I'm also addicted to Voltorb Flip. Hands down beats the slots.

For those who have tried out the Pokewalker, I have a question. Does it raise your Pokemon's level by just one each time you load your Pokemon for a walk, or as many levels as it walks, like the Daycare centre?

That's only an option once you've REACHED the Elite Four. :yuusaku: Before that, you're stuck fighting Level 25-ish wilds while the Leaders, Kimono Girls, etc. have Pokemon in the 40-50 range.

And I take it the Leader rematches take place after beating the Elite Four?

The Walker raises your Pokemon's level by one at the end of your stroll if you've walked enough. I don't know how much 'enough' is, but it's happened with me every time. As a bonus, talking walks seems to raise your Pokemon's friendliness level quite a bit.

The problem with the Walker, though, is that if you gain a level through it where you're supposed to learn a new move, you won't learn it.

The Safari Zone is easier than ever now that they removed the time/step limit. At least with that the challenge was in having to find the Pokemon before you got kicked out, but now its just a matter of throwing the ball and getting lucky.

I don't really care for the Voltorb Flip game, though I probably wouldn't mind so much if they'd let you just buy coins in the game corner like every other game.

You do have trainer rematches to train with, but unless you enjoy calling everyone on your list looking to see if they want to fight, or wait until they call you, I guess that's not much of an option. The highest level wild Pokemon before the Elite Four are at the end of Victory Road at the 35-ish range, and that can easily get the job done if you want to be at an even level with the E4, since their highest Pokemon the first time around is at 50. Kanto isn't much better though, since the levels of the Pokemon there are the same as they were in FireRed/LeafGreen, but the Gym Leader and E4 rematches more than make up for that.

As for the rematches, I'm pretty sure they're not available until you beat the Kanto leaders, just like the E4's upgraded team.

Cool.
It's a nice way to have an early boost in levels as well. I used the Elite Four in Diamond to level up Bayleef. And My shiny Bellossom named Orgasmique is at level 64 and to the attention of my friend it's at level 69. I don't want my Flaafy to evolve, I think it looks lovely the way she is.

The Pokemon following you around gives so much more life to them - I hate having to put them in the box or when they faint because I feel like I'm letting them down =(

Whitney was made SO much easier in this version. I was gearing up for an epic battle but her Miltank didn't even use Rollout. What a waste.

You can go back and explore the caves and stuff (Waterfall-accessible areas) and find all the items, also work on the Pokedex... takes out some of the boredom. And take Pickup Pokemon with you. Actually trade in Lvl 100 Pickup PKMN to pick up the useful items like Heart Scales and Leftovers. And, I probably don't need to mention this, but TURN OFF BATTLE ANIMATIONS.

The Pokemon following you with all their reactions is the most amazing improvement. But now I feel compelled to keep them at max happiness and unstatused all the time. I love how they can still walk when they're asleep... All I grow now are happiness-increasing berries... (which undo bad EVs so you feed them to a non-existent stat...) I like how you can have your berry plants on hand all the time now but I wish you got more than 4 spaces for them, maybe an upgrade after the E4 or something?

BTW I think some of the worse HM moves are due for an upgrade. There's so many HMs now you can't have just one HM slave. Things like Surf, Fly, Waterfall and Strength are fine, but I feel like I'm insulting my PKMN to make them suffer with Cut, Rock Smash, Flash and Whirlpool till sooo late in the game. When they invented them in the prehistoric RBY they weren't so bad because everything had worse moves. They should at least improve Whirlpool to Clamp's power, and at least make Flash 100% accurate or something. Lowering accuracy 2 stages instead of one probably would be too big an improvement. Maybe make Rock Smash a higher power? Give Cut some Flinchhax?

Ahahaha this game rules.

I waltz into Faulkner's gym with a level 10 Geodude and thought, "heh, this is gonna be a breeze (pun slightly intended)". I take down Faulkner's pidgey with not much of a problem, go "Pidgeotto OH NO, hah!" and he releases his second poke and...

....level 13?

Welp.

Needless to say I lost (besides the higher level Pidgeotto's Roost didn't help). Now I'm going to have to grind for Rock Throw. :( Still like how the Gym pokes have been beefed up. Maybe it'll actually be a challenge this time!

and EVs for that matter

I felt kind of sad when mine evolved but now it's one of the most powerful Pokes I have after Typhlosion and maybe Kadabra (when he doesn't get roshambo'ed with Sucker Punch, anyway...)

There is an ability called Pickup. Basically the higher the level you are, the more likely your Pokemon will find rare items just by walking around.

EVs are short for Effort Values, which is basically one of the many ways to maximize the stats of your Pokemon. Every time your Pokemon levels up, a certain stat receives Effort Values depending on which Pokemon it killed when it leveled up. Rare Candies do nothing for EVs though.

Probably because Thunderpunch is now a physical attack. Ampharos has always been better with special attacks. Though it should still work moderately well, maybe it's got the wrong nature?

Quick check. How many people have any/all of the following on their team?

--Kadabra/Alakazam
--Geodude/Graveler/Golem
--Cyndaquil/forgotthemiddleone'sname/Typhlosion OR Houndoom
--Gyarados
--Mareep/Flaafy/Ampharos
--Skarmory

Pretty much everyone I know IRL who plays this game has this team, and it's really bugging me. I guess Ampharos is a given 'cuz it's the only electric-type and Kadabra just owns, but do most players naturally gravitate towards this sort of party or what?

I try to drift away from regulars like that, and pick Pokemon others may not use as much. I may have traded in an egg or two (or five) from Pearl. Call it cheating if you like.

My team is:
Ambipom
Hitmontop
Mamoswine
Ninetales
Hypno
Octillery

Some friends of mine asked me to trade them a few Pokes, including Alakazam and Houndoom. Gengar I see on a lot of teams as well. As for Electric coverage, I just gave a Charge Beam TM to Octillery. I have ice and grass attacks to use against fliers and water Pokes anyway.

I've actually never seen anyone use any Pokemon in the Geodude evolutionary line as a real team member outside of the first generation. All I see it being used for these days is as an early HM slave.

The reason I have both Ampharos and Typhlosion on my primary HeartGold team is because they were part of my original Gold team, and I wanted to use them again this time around. I guess that above group of pokemon could be a nostalgia thing as well, seeing as they're all first and second gen creatures.

Ampharos
Fearow
Nidoking
Lapras
Dragonite

Posting teams, huh? I suppose I'll join in:

HeartGold
- Typhlosion
- Scizor
- Nidoking
- Ampharos
- Xatu
- Lapras

Pretty much a remake of my original Gold team. I'm not crazy about Ampharos this time around, but I suppose that's due to the physical/special split. Still, the type coverage is pretty extensive here, both among the Pokemon and the moves they know. My fire blasting, thunderbolting, shadow clawing Nidoking can attest to that.

SoulSilver
- Meganium
- Heracross
- Skarmory
- Lanturn
- Magmortar
- Weavile

This one was more experimental, since I never used Heracross, Skarmory or Magmortar before, but I think it worked well enough.

I badly needed electric for Clair and Lance - the Kingdras and the Gyarados. Strangely, no-one I know ever uses any Nidos. Yeah, more people are starting to use Lapras now, even though it's still a pain in the ass to catch. Friday just happens to be the most inconvenient day for me XD

Looks like pretty much everyone picked Typhlosion as a starter. Meganium's not bad, though.

Game is amazing. I've not been into Pokemon so much since the original G/S releases. Simply awesome. I'm at Blackthorn currently. So much nostalgia - the music is great, and the upgrades (even the Pokewalker) make it that much better.

Yeah, more people are starting to use Lapras now, even though it's still a pain in the ass to catch.

1 Net ball.

Also just switch your DS's clock to Friday. The Lapras should be there.

Quick check. How many people have any/all of the following on their team?

--Kadabra/Alakazam
--Geodude/Graveler/Golem
--Cyndaquil/forgotthemiddleone'sname/Typhlosion OR Houndoom
--Gyarados
--Mareep/Flaafy/Ampharos
--Skarmory

Pretty much everyone I know IRL who plays this game has this team, and it's really bugging me. I guess Ampharos is a given 'cuz it's the only electric-type and Kadabra just owns, but do most players naturally gravitate towards this sort of party or what?

Teams?
-Skarmory
-Swampert
-Umbreon
-Mantine
-Xatu
-Croconaw [NOT evolving!]

YES I traded them as eggs from moment 1, I don't care. I want to use the new features on PKMN I like...

I've never quite understood why Ampharos was so popular, but I never played the old GS so I guess it's nostalgia or something, maybe it was better then?

A lot of people keep that Red Gyarados on their team,I guess, which is part of the 'popularity'. It's not bad. But wayyy too ugly.

what the hell is a pickup pokemon
and EVs for that matter

EVs = Effort Values. A Pokemon has a total of 512 EV Points. 252 points maxes out a stat. Obviously you can't max out all stats. So you direct EVs somewhere beneficial. For example,it's a waste to train a physical attacker with Sp Att EVs. Look up your Pokemon species' base stats and train where actually useful. The 'vitamins' [misnomer] like Protein, Iron etc. raise EVs in a particular stat, but you can only train about half the EVs this way. Some of the berries delete EVs to remove bad training in an unwanted stat. Fighting different Pokemon species raises EVs for different stats. EV Training can occur 4x [?] faster by using items like the Macho Brace, Power Weight etc, contracting the Pokerus virus etc

Pickup occurs at the end of each battle. The Pickup ability Pokemon has a something % chance of 'picking up' an item and holding it after each battle. Low level Pickup Pokemon pick up things like potions or escape ropes, high level PKMN pickup moonstones, sun stones, heart scales, leftovers, PP Ups etc. Also notable is a Pay Day Pokemon [aka Persian and Meowth]. Pay Day is a move which collects money every time it's used in a battle, the higher the level the more money. This makes fighting endless wild Pokemon slightly more rewarding. Of course this requires the Persian to be the one attacking, so to raise another PKMN it'd have to be holding the EXP Share. But money is pretty useless in this game, except for buying 'vitamins' ASAP you can't buy the really good items.

My current team:
Feraligatr
Fearow
Raticate
Graveler
Victreebel
Vulpix

Yeah, it kinda sucks... XD They can sure kick ass though.

Is there a Fire Stone anywhere that I can get right now...? ;-; Pleeeeease?

Edit: I love having Feraligatr following me around. It's like Blue Godzilla. XD

A bit of an odd choice for a team, with four out of the six being weak to electric. Any reason in particular for not evolving Croconaw?

As I recall, the only way to get a Fire Stone before the National Dex is to win the bug-catching contest and hope they give you one. Otherwise you'll have to trade for it, or hope one of the gift-giving NPCs will call you up and offer it to you.
