I only saw that in Sorey and Lailah. The other party members are just kind of there, just following along because they had nothing better to do.

Sounds exactly like Xillia :basil:

And like several of the previous Tales Of. Including their first one, Phantasia.

I'm addicted to gambling. Though I already got whatever 'unique' item was in the casino list. (4 Outfits, 1 Hair, a few Capacity Cores Elemental-Thingy-Thing-Equipped and the rest is stuff I can easily get elsewhere) Ok, the friendship potion thing might be helpful but... still.

Also, Chapter 14, I have no idea what dialogue option may lead to what ending. I'm going with the one that sounds like "If necessarily, I WILL kill my brother".

Sumguy, with lag, do you mean it lags during battles all the time, during the entire game or that it has lag spikes when several enemies are on screen? Cause if it's the last, Xillia 2 seems to suffer from that, too.

Just did Muzét's 2nd Character Chapter.
Wow! What a bunch of DICKS these characters are to her! Also, what the hell is wrong with their sense of taste? The Harpy Hairpin? Looks freaking cute! It's not 'creepy' or 'ghastly' and certainly not cursed. Oh, man, I just wanted an option for Ludger to tell them off and give Muzét a hug.

I've actually never confirmed this for myself, only heard about it. Though after looking into it, it appears that battle lag isn't any worse than any of the other PS3 Tales of games. It's the draw distance in the field that people were complaining about. Anything that moves a rather short distance from the player will either disappear, freeze in place, or move at 5 fps. In hindsight, that doesn't actually sound too bad. Maybe not up to par, but manageable at the least.

Yeah, I'll be summoning the Four White Soccer Moms Of The Apocalypse any time now.

Question, I am supposed to head to Canaan now, which is the last area. Can I still do Character Chapters post-game or would it be better to do them now? And how many are there? I got six out of Milla up to now. (And Jude is super close to being my bed bunny best buddy. I might need to spritz some Friendship Potion on him a few more times.)

Also, I still feel underleveled... barely Level 60 and I'm fighting Level 70 enemies. Man, Namco, your EXP always sucks at the end of the game. Can't find a nice, proper place where there's decent EXP from every enemy, so I can just spend some time grinding.

Jude's 5th Chapter... STOP! SHOVING! MILLAxJUDE! INTO MY FACE! I don't believe it! I don't care! I don't want it! Half the game was spent swooning over the amazement of Ludger, but NOW it's all "Milla, let's do this waterfall thingy. Milla, don't tell anyone what happened up there. Milla, let's do this wish-granting thing. Milla, Milla, Milla." Fuck's sake, Namco, I read that Jude became HIS OWN character in Xillia 2, not a Satelitte hovering around Milla. How about you stick with that, huh?

Or at least explain WHY Jude decided to switch from studying medicine to becoming a scientist.

Their love with never work, anyway, so stop trying to tell me otherwise! Trust me, this will NOT make me cry at the inevitable scene of Milla returning to the Spirit Realm. The thing with Julius? You did it right for that scene. Here? SHOVING in my face is NOT the way to make me show the emotion you want. All you do is piss me off and make me hate your game.

You can do them post-game, but I prefer to do them before going to Canaan. There's six for Milla, five for Jude and Alvin, four for Leia plus some three requests, four for the rest, and an additional one after you've done the other ones which unlocks Jude's other mystic arte.

Rieze Maxians can use spirit artes. Elympions can't, and instead relied on fossil fuels spyrix, which kills spirits.

You'd have to be blind, deaf and stupid to not see this one. Urgh, it's worse than Abyss forcing me to interact with Tear or Final Fantasy X, with Auron constantly telling me "Go talk to Yuna". Yeah, great, shut up, I do not believe this romance, nor do I see anything.

Sam Riegel and Minae Noji have no chemistry in their lines with each other. I don't know if those two people simply have no chemistry themselves, when it comes to each other, the voice directions were lacking in making them come across as this or it's a translation matter. I don't know, I read that the English version (of Xillia, to be honest) had some issues with the translation removing some romantic subtext or meaning, but that it was this bad... Urgh, it feels like I'm playing a game version of Symphonia's OVA, where Colloyd was shoved into my face every other minute... (I know it's difficult to make an animated version of something that had relationship values like Symphonia, but why did you not opt for giving everyone some [heavy] subtext? Or balance things out nicely? God forbid, maybe even make Lloyd such an oblivious idiot hero that he simply has no romance with anyone.)

Also, Jude's amazing revelation, after talking to Celcius. "Instead of controlling spirits, we should ask them for co-operation." YOU ARE A MAJESTIC, FUCKING EAGLE GENIUS, JUDE! No way could anyone, ever, in the entire research history of spirit artes, have ever come up with your idea. Clearly, you are the supergenius that the scientific world needed!

Have to remind myself... he's only 16... chill... Though the idea, then, that he's 15 in Xillia and the romance with Milla just got creepier than Victor's... intense... liking for... his daughter Elle... ugh, Namco. What the fuck? (On a rather unrelated note, I have been in this game without Elle for a few hours and... I barely notice a difference. She is that superfluous.)

Quote:

That's it? By god, the racism between humans, elves and halfelves was much more justified in Symphonia/Phantasia, in comparison.

Well, I am ONE Friendship potion away from making Jude my best bud. Also killed all Elite Monsters I currently had unlocked. So, either I now proceed to Canaan or I will grind casino chips over and over, so I can get Friendship Potions and 'cheat' everyone's affection high enough for the last scenes. (Mostly Muzét, I think I only got 3 scenes with her up to now... also, Jessica Strauss, nice enough voice for Muzét, but her 'childish' voice is obnoxious to the ears.)

I don't seem to GET anything awesome out of doing each character's last scene. Oh, sure, a jokey weapon... the Symphonia joke weapons were pretty dang powerful...

Wha? But yeah, I'm probably reading too much into it, but whenever Ludger says something flirty or compliment-y to a woman, Elle pipes up with "That's what my daddy says to me all the time, too!" Like... uh, okay. Do I need to call child services and ask them to keep an eye on your daddy?

Though, honestly, I play through Xillia 2 and I just keep encountering scenes or aspects where I could dub Bonds Beyond Time Abridged over it and it would fit perfectly. Like Victor and his mask, "It makes my character look intewesting, what do you want from me?"

Speaking of Victor, gaining his costume for NG+? Neat. I tried replicating it, by giving Ludger his schooluniform DLC outfit + Sidekick mask. Though, really, looking at Ludger's outfits, they are ALL the same type of clothing. Pants, impressive shirt... I know that Symphonia gave Lloyd outfits with the hanging tails of scarfs/belts, but they looked somewhat differently. 3 of Ludger's outfits are the various layers of his default. (Though barefoot Ludger with his shirttail hanging out looks comfy)

And is Grade completely invisible in this game? Nevermind, I found the location that my grade was hiding itself in.

But since I ordered Xillia, I might look up what the in-game costumes for that game are... does Ludger get a medical nurse outfit in that one, too? (I also read that DLC for Xillia works for Xillia 2, but not backwards... Oh well. Since my Xillia will be imported, I would have to get different DLC for it, anyway)

To get good gald, just defeat the bosses from the Bonus Dungeon over and over. Yeah 'just' do that. The second level bosses are ONLY 30 levels higher than you and the bosses are only 60 levels higher than you, with atrociously litle EXP being given inbetween. :ron:

The Bonus Dungeon for Xillia 2 SUCKS, plain and simple.

1) Cannot enter with someone else, unless their affinity is at least 8 Hearts high, so you better have grinded Poker for Friendship Potions, paid off majority of your debt for them or had a guide open for the entire game, to make sure your answers are always correct and increase their like for Ludger.

2) No indication which damn door unlocks for which character, so trial and error. (Yes, yes, there's a map, I have it open, I know)

3) Too fucking dark! Hey, let's make one location be a huge fucking desert, have it be pitch-black night and have the monsters be black shadows, too, so you cannot see what monster they are, until you've walked over half of creation, to get close enough to see which one it is.

4) Oh, and for that, let's name the target monsters things like Nightmare, but the monsters themselves be called something else in-battle, so they need to GUESS which type of black shadow monster we mean.

5) The second round bosses jump a good 30 Levels higher. Have fun killing something at level 140, when you're in your 80-Levels.

And the reward for this fucking thing don't sound all that good, either. Remember what I got for Symphonia's Niflheim? Persian Boots, Force Ring and some damn good EXP + opportunity to increase my cooking. For Abyss' extra dungeon? Some good equipment, a monster that I could abuse to make tons of money and, with two other extra monsters defeated, got a damn good title for Tear.

And this one? Oh, you can get 1 million Gald. Which is nothing, considering one can defeat the EX Elite monsters in far less time and aggravation than this. And you can fight Stahn and Cless in the Arena - why would I do that, if I've already defeated them here? For some stupid, 'joke' ending that doesn't count?

Namco, the fuck happened to your rewards department?

Getting away from Xillia 2, I am so sick and tired of people whining and complaining about how unlikeable Luke is in the beginning of Abyss. Uh, yeah, you ever thought that was the point of his character? That he's a spoiled brat, whose lack of knowledge of the real world is understandable and then learns how to better himself? You know, Character Development? It's kind of a thing.

Spoiler: Xillia - Alvin Spoiler
"I guess he really hates me now, huh?" The context of that line (Jude's can't forgive Alvin for shooting Leia) makes it bad enough. And Elize outright says she hates him, not bothering to try and hide it.

Yeah, reading stuff up before playing more - and, uh... reading that line just makes me think, "GEE, YA THINK?" Like, is that scene supposed to be facepalm-funny?

Yeah, so, killed everyone. Far as I read, killing Maxwell caused the schism to disappear in the previous game - any repercussions in this game? And why is it considered Bad? You know, aside from going the Victor route? I mean, Bisley is in Canaan. And it's said that fulfilling a wish would mean all transformations are stopped.

Okay, sure, spirits would disappear, but this would cause Rieze Maxians and Elympions to be on the same page now and they can actually work in figuring out how to get the world working, without relying on spirits in either a good or bad sense. And Julius would survive, too.
a
...how is this ending super bad again? (Also, for someone who just killed EIGHT people, Ludger sure doesn't have a whole lot of blood on him or his weapons)

Wait. What? The 'Bad Ending' doesn't count as a full Ending? I mean, on the one hand, I'm okay that it goes to a scene just before this ending and I can proceed in the game, do more Character Episodes and all, that I don't have to go through the entire game again, just to finish up and get the last few costumes. But seriously? I am still pissed that Tales refuses to go down the full route of Bad Ending. Hey, at least SMT IV WENT with it when I decided to destroy the entire UNIVERSE because I was sick of YVHV and Lucifer constantly bickering!

C-A

PS: The scene prior to this battle? Was freaking hilarious!

It's a bad ending because if you had done it on a first playthough, you would have probably gotten your ass kicked.
Spoiler:
I always found this ending strange, though. Apparently Ludger's lvl 3 chromatus is so powerful, he manages to overpower Gaius (a human who was already a powerful soldier at age 12 without a Lilium Orb), Muzét (who can create black holes) and Milla (who is pretty much God AND possesses Efreet, Undine, Sylph and Gnome) all fighting together along with five other humans. Realistically, they would have killed Ludger and used his soul as a bridge to Canaan, but not before grieving for all of five seconds.
Though I love that Leia's weak to shot-type attacks.

I don't know whether I should be laughing, crying, angry, or just plain apathetic (spoiler for Zestiria sidequest that has absolutely nothing to do with anything).

I'm sure I'll do it eventually - it gives you trophies and all - but it's so obnoxious. You need to re-enter multiple times with a different party and god-forbid you cannot figure out their different names for the enemies in the damn desert. And the jump in levels from Level 1 to Level 2 is horrible. And is it me, or do the bosses respawn? I swear, I fought Xillia 2 Milla twice, when I should only have encountered her once.

Quote:

See, if dying at that battle actually resulted in showing what happens if you die, instead of treating it like any other Game Over and gives you the option to retry the battle, it would count more as a Bad Bad Ending. As it is, it's... nothing but a battle you lost. Just retry, you can do it.

Spoiler: Bad Ending
I did like the scene part where Gaius and Ludger stare at each other on top of those pillars. Sure, basically copied from the opening, where Ludger and Julius are fighting, but it's a nice callback to that moment.

Yes, Leia being weak to shot-types is hilariously inappropriate. I slashed her to death, though, because I was walking around very slowly with guns...

By the way, where are the corpses? Did I throw them into the sea at Marksburg, as soon as I killed them? They are nowhere to be seen when hugging Julius.

At least I can finish up Character Episodes now, especially for those who I actually already have maxed, but don't have the last Episode done yet, to get the costume. (Muzét, Milla and Alvin needs to get my Friendship Potion aaaall over him a bit more) But I don't wanna go through Canaan! It's a pointlessly prolonged, obnoxious maze to serve no purpose... really, no purpose.

I mean, what happened to places like Eldrant? Or Welgaia/Vinheim from Symphonia? Those were some pretty awesome-looking (and well-lit!) final areas. Why suddenly go dark and can't proceed that way because, well, a 1 meter gap in the path has opened up. (Why not just jump the fucking thing?)

Tales of Bears Berseria now has a new trailer.
A few details on its battle system.

I'm glad that they went for 60 fps this time, but I'm guessing that will only be for the PS4 version.

So, Miltee hates herself cause she can transform (partially) into a bear. Or some monster with a claw. Also, maybe it's me, but is that Tomokazu Sugita as one of the first guys to talk? (Pet peeve, you do not need to add 'fucking' to make something stronger. Sure, saying You will definitely pay doesn't sound as nasty, but it's RIGHT.) I hope that blond kid dies. Fast. Or late, because he seems like the emotional token for Miltee. Meaning, he WILL have to die, so she'll learn/re-learn that every life has meaning and she can't just kill people.

A general tip for Namco: don't even attempt to make me think you'd kill one of your main protagonists.

It won't work. You haven't done it in 20 years and starting now would be stupid. Of course Milla won't die. You're too in love with your heroines - you'd never actually cause something permanently bad to happen to them. It's like the revelation that Milla was handicapped early on. Even if it was only about 4 hours into the game, it obviously wasn't gonna 'stick' - and not just cause it was early on.

Also, I have played about 23 hours. I know that you wouldn't create a mothership Tales game with only 23 hours worth of things to do. Especially since the titles tell me I still have a good 20 or more sub-events to go through, if I want the final 'X Amount Of Sub-Events Done'. Finally, you made a Milla route. It's quite damn obvious, from the above paragraph, that you won't kill her for realsies. Obviously, there is more to come.

If Jude was the only protagonist, but displayed as more of an observer to the events, I might buy the fact that Milla just 'died'. As it is, I don't because of the above reasons.

You can't make me think you'd actually kill your protagonists. You're not freaking Square, Namco. And kindly don't try to be.

You know, Xillia, if you stopped breathing in Milla's farts by shoving your noses up her ass for 80% of the game, I might actually NOT be confused about some of the later story events and keep stumbling over details that would have been more obvious, IF YOU HAD NOT DECIDED TO PRAISE MILLA - AGAIN - JUST AT THAT MOMENT.
Aversion Therapy! Whenever I hear any single word of praise in correlation with 'Milla', my ears shut down and I ignore what you say.

Also, I'm about to start Chapter 11 in my Japanese Xillia 2 and I really, really, really, REALLY don't want to do it. I don't want Prime Milla on my team, I don't want to have to do Jude or Milla's later Character Episodes. I DREAD it. I feel actually sick to my stomach, just at the thought of having to go through with it... :larry:

I know. But a part of me is thinking why I should have to skip a decent chunk of gameplay or story, because they decide that Milla looking like she's about to rape Jude on the couch must be added? (And no, I am not exaggerating. That scene honestly looked like the things I saw in most hetero stuff that was the beginning of rape. All it needs is Jude to stop struggling and lie back sighing, saying, "Fine... do whatever you want..." and look away all sad and with tears in his eyes)

Why should I alter my experience with the game, just because the developers had to shove an unbelieveable pairing into my face? This isn't a thing with difficulty in a game or something that would be decently manageable with a self-imposed challenge, this is just bad writing shoved into my face. (Like being forced to talk to Yuna in X, when I don't want to, because, dammit, I need to do it, in order to proceed in the game)

PS: And even skipping the scenes won't alter the fact that I have bland-as-fuck-talking-emotionless Milla in my party for the rest of the game. :ron: Upside, I can get Fractured Milla's clothes and hair and make her look like her... downside, it's post-game only.

PPS: Velvet had better have a nude scene or something to make her better. Or damn good voice acting in both versions.

I think it's time I gave that spoilerrific Zestiria rant.
Spoiler:
Specifically how they messed up by simply having DLC.

Skipping past what I think about Day 1 DLC and pre-ordering, Bamco showcased the cameo DLC costumes on the Steam store page as a pre-order bonus (which I only did for the free Symphonia PC). Problem is, they showed costumes for all the party members. From that, anyone who looks at it knows that Zaveid becomes a party member, even though he's presented as an antagonist for the first half of the game. But the bigger problem emerges when you realize he and Dezel share the same fighting style. By itself, that wouldn't be too much of a problem, as Tales of had antagonists sharing their fighting styles with party members before. When you take these two pieces of information together, it soon becomes obvious that Zaveid is Dezel's replacement long before actually happens.

Essentially, Bamco spoiled the game's only major twist in the entire game simply by having DLC.

And while I'm on the subject of Zaveid, the opening shows him using an ice arte when he only knows wind artes.

At least Symphonia did that thing by making that thing a late-game thing that only happens if you do a certain thing, which can be difficult to do. (Oh, man, writing without spoilers is so difficult! :ron: )

Okay, I need something explained to me. WHAT was the plan with the Otherworld Reactor Plan in Xillia? Aside from a short subevent at the end, which didn't explain it well to me, it's barely mentioned. Even Xillia 2 barely brings it up.

Elympios wanted to take all of Rieze Maxia and drain their mana to be used as fuel.

Oh boy, that Zestiria pre-order finally payed off and I got my free Symphonia PC port. I know it's going to bring me right back! It's got to be as good as I remember!
...
OK, it's horrible.

Consoles and PCs are vastly different, why do people think they can just port one to another and not alter things to work on both? (Then again, never understood why someone would need more than 2, maybe 3, save slots for Symphonia)

So... have them hooked up permanently to some machines to drain them? Or just put mini-Kresnik-Lances onto their heads, press "Suck" for 30 seconds and leave, having enough to power a household for a day with that? :ron:

Successful console to PC ports have been done several times before, examples including but not limited to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Sonic Generations, and Devil May Cry 4. Notice how all of those games were released in the PS3/360/Wii era. Tales of Symphonia was first released back in 2003 and ran at 60 fps, yet the porting team couldn't even handle that. Honestly, I could emulate the GC version and it would run better.

I assumed they were going to build enough Kresnik lances and position enough on Rieze Maxia to cover the entire land, effectively turning it into a giant battery. How they were planning to do that without getting their asses handed to them is anyone's guess.

Uh... well, the Rieze Maxians didn't seem like the smartest of the bunch, so... they might have succeeded. *writes this down for potential chapter ideas*

So apparently Bamco localized Tales of Link, one of the mobile games. Eh, it's free. How bad could it possibly be-

I have to say that Milla randomly forced herself into my dream last night. Despite my dream's plot (nonesensical as it may be) having nothing to do with her, she still forced herself into it, to make my brain pay attention to her. You stupid attention whore, Milla!!

Finished Tales of Hearts, clocking in at 60 hours.

Just... wow. The game was great from start to finish. It's a shame it was never released in English (in its original form, at least).
