The game you're currently playing has a minigame in it! Or various ones.
Is there one you love? One you hate?

I recall WHIZ! from Tales of Eternia. A card game that was randomly played during a "break" taken in ... I think Volt's place? I forget where, I last played about six years ago, but it was there. Afterward, the minigame was available to play at all times. And I loved it! I loved playing that minigame over and over. Yeah, who cares if Inferia and... the other planet were gonna collide. I wanna play WHIZ!

As for minigames I hate... take your pick of practically any minigame in FF VII. Especially the ones I was forced to do to proceed in the story. The CPR Minigame. The dolphin-jumping "minigame". The parade minigame and the dancing-in-front-of-Rufus minigame. All forced to do to proceed in the plot and I hated it.

Triple Triad! The sole part of Final Fantasy VIII I'd consider fun.

I'm sure I've come across quite a few stinker minigames in my time, but the freshest one that comes to mind is (if it counts) the new Hangman's Gambit in SDR2. It's an absolute nightmare if you're going for a perfect score.

The skateboarding minigame in Spyro: Year of the Dragon gave me fond memories of a dragon chasing lizards while riding a skateboard.

I both love and hate Virtual Meat Boy from Retro Coty Rampage.
I think I spent 4 hours trying to beat it, but I never managed to do it.

(Tales Of) Dragon Buster in Tales of the Abyss.
Kind of a fun minigame, but the annoyance that you have to complete it with either shit Armor or shit Weapon to get the "Princess Ending" so you can get the two titles for Luke really makes it frustrating.

Loved:
- Wario Ware's games (overall). I think it counts, since the game is basically all mini-game.
- Fantasy Life's creation mini-games. They're simple, yet intuitive.
- The 100 Ace Wood minigames in Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2.
- Super Training in Pokemon X/Y (and soon: ORAS/MUDAS)
- Pokemon Games from SS/HG
- Usami/Monomi's mini-game from SDR2.

Hated:
- Any gambling one. Lookin' at you, most Japanese RPG's from the 90's and early 2000's.
- Atlantica's musical mini-games from KHII. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet.
- Anything where my success is measured by "hitting this button at speeds you'll never reach".
- Actually, I'm gonna agree with Cat here: FFVII's minigames were probably the weakest part of the game. Except the pointless mog story one. Especially if you hit x at the wrong time while reading the instructions and are left clueless as to what to do.
- Anything that relies on what is essentially Rock/Paper/Scissors at its most basic: the virtual game in that one tower place in Legend of Legaia, among many. Also Knife Guy's game.
- The tactical mini-game in Strong Bad's Cool Games 4 Attractive Peoples. There's really only one strategy here, and discovering it is a pain (and can require a lot of trial/error).
- Any bonus minigame that comes after you had to jump through hoops to even GET to the bonus minigame.

What I loved:
- Mario Party 5's Board Party
- Mario Party 5 "Hop, Skip, Jump" was my favourite minigame of the entire series.
- Any Wario Ware games (Although Pyoro was my favourite in Particular)
- Not sure if it's a "minigame" but the Chao Garden in SA2 was a massive time-waster for me. I was always there in-game!

What I hated:
- Not that I hated it, rather I sucked at it, but versing S-Chan in that rock, paper, scissors minigame in Attack of the Friday Monsters. She's impossible to beat!

Off the top of my head:

Love:
FFIX Choco Hot and Cold
Any slot machine game from Pokemon
The soccer game from Rayman Legends
Beaver Race from Majora's Mask

Hate:
Tetra Master from FFIX
THE FROG STEALTH SECTION from FFIX (the worst)
Mini games in FFVII that aren't Chocobo Racing
When fetch quests in Zelda games become too tedious
Any Celestial Weapon sidequest that involves Tidus's, Kimahri's, and Lulu's weapons. Those suck.

Sure there are many more I can categorize, but it's late, I'm tired, and these are the only games I can think of at the moment.

I remember in one of the Spyro games on the DS you could solve puzzles by reflecting and separating light using mirrors and prisms. That was the most memorable part of the game for me as the actual game was difficult from what I remember.

Also, Castle Wars from RuneScape.

Oh man, the first time playing FFIX, I had to do the stupid tournament 3 times because my PS2 kept messing up on me after the tournament and I couldn't save. Really grew to hate this mini-game after that.

I admittedly haven't played many games that have mini-game features but those that do... ugh. The one that springs to mind though are Pokemon ones, namely the generation transfer mini games before Pokemon Bank was invented. The one that used to frustrate me the most was the one for Black and White where you had to do that slingshot thing...

Oh yeah, I'm doing that because I'm transferring my Gen 4 Pokemon to Gen 5 in anticipation of the new games coming out soon. If there's a way to go from Gen 4 to 6 I'm all for it. The slingshot game is so finicky because you need to throw the ball beyond than where the Pokemon is standing.

I have many fond memories with the barrel minigame in Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga.
Then again, all of the minigames in that game were pretty enjoyable - comes with the game as a whole, I suppose.

As for minigames that I don't like... Musicals from Pokémon Black/White. At least the Contests had some sort of external prize to them...

I absolutely agree. That's one reason why I can't stand playing sections of Final Fantasy VII. The motorcycle minigame? Mandatory. The CPR minigame? Mandatory. Dolphin jumping "minigame"? Mandatory. The parade? Mandatory. That thing in front of Rufus? Mandatory.

I hate making minigames mandatory to proceed. That's not what I play the game for. I play the game for the game itself, not a minigame that is dumb, annoying and takes too long. Okay, WHIZ! in Tales of Eternia was mandatory, it happened as I proceeded in a dungeon. But it's a very short minigame. (And also very fun) So after playing it once or twice, I could stop and proceed easily.

Loved:
1. Pretty much every minigame from Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga, but special note goes to the barrel minigame and the one where you have to feed the piranha plants.
2. Most minigames from Warioware and Mario Party.
3. The bullet hell shooter minigame from No More Heroes 2.
4. Most minigames in the Professor Layton series, my favorites being the ones where you have to get something to the exit, like the car in Unwound Future, the train in Last Specter, and the robot in Miracle Mask. The only Layton game I've never played yet is Azran Legacy, so I don't know if the minigames in that one are any good.
5. Most modern minigames from the Game And Watch Gallery series. Am I the only one who wants to see a 5th one for the 3DS?

Hated
1. The freaking sneezing minigame from Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. The Mario brothers never go where I want them to go.
2. The Control Stick Spinning minigames from the original Mario Party. Need I say more?
3. Any Luck based minigames from the Mario Party series.
4. The minigame in Super Mario Galaxy where you have to destroy all of the garbage using bob-ombs. Every time I play through that game, I dread having to play that minigame, as it always takes me forever to clear it.

Here's some more I haven't already mentioned.

Love
6. The 8 Bit minigames in Strong Bad's Cool Game For Attractive People.
7. The arcade minigames in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door and Super Paper Mario.
8. Nearly every single minigame in the Rhythm Heaven series. Some think that the series is very hard, I don't think so. I've gotten a superb rating on every single song in the second and third games, and a perfect rating on most of them.

Hate
5. The side jobs from the original No More Heroes. One word: BOOOOORING!
6. Lotus Focus from Wii Fit. It's literally a minigame about sitting still. Seriously! WTF is the point of that?!
7. The Yoshi Minigame from Super Mario RPG. I could never get the hang of it.
8. The poodle minigames from Rhythm Thief And The Emperor's Treasure. That game's kinda obscure, so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the only one here who's played or even heard of it. It's basically Professor Layton meets Rhythm Heaven.

I loved London Life from Last Specter, and the tea game from Diabolical Box. Basically all of the PL minigames, except the one where you had to move the robot... I hated that one.

Actually, the only minigames I've encountered are in Professor Layton...

Loved:
London Life (I ADORED this game)
The camera - Diabolical Box
The car - Unwound Future
The Picture Book - Unwound Future
The Train - Last Specter
The Fish - Last Specter
The Bunny - Miracle Mask (So cute!)
The Squirrel - Azran Legacy

Hated:
That god-damned painting - Curious Village
The fudging Robot - Miracle Mask
The Dress-Up - Azran Legacy (Freakin creepy...)

And I liked all the rest of them too.

A couple of my favorite minigames are Tin Pin Slammer from The World Ends with You, Kirby Fighters from Kirby Triple Deluxe, Checkerboard Chase from Kirby 64, and the Vergier vs. the Chevaliers challenge from Rhythm Thief.

As for minigames I don't like, I'd have to say the waiter/butler boxing matches from Rhythm Thief (it requires you to be way too precise with the 3DS gyroscope controls) and that freaking red-light-green-light with the Katz in Tales of Symphonia (I swear, those other kids are pure demons).

I loooooved The WHIS minigame in Tales of Eternia as well! So much so, that I even drew and replicated the cards so that me and my little bro and sis could play together~ I forget the name of the game, but also in Eternia, there was this magnetic sport ball game where you had to squash your opponent with the ball, and OOOh my gawsh the hours of us just playing that minigame was astronomical!

It seems that newer games don't have minigames anymore now that I think about it. It's kinda sad, they could be great fun sometimes~

Nah VII's minigames were pretty good and broke up the regular gameplay appropriately, not like there was any too often. The only case with em in quick succession is the mountain climbing and the snowboarding I think. Motorcycling was pretty awesome, played the sub minigame a fair bit in Golden Saucer too. Chocobo Racing was pretty memorable. The strategy-defence game I also loved...

Damn reflecting on it, FFVII's minigames were pretty good :kristoph:

I don't actually remember the CPR minigame...remember hating the Dolphin one though. The Parade minigame was glorious though, I remember Rufus' parade so fondly. The music was good, I loved it when Theathrhythm was making a call out to it when you download that song.

FFVII's mini-games were a mixed bag for me. I wasn't really fond of any of them really, I either kinda liked them, tolerated them, or hated them.

Still, nothing beats Cid's mini-game in FF9 as far as bad mini-games go for me in the Final Fantasy series. FF9 is a great game, but that one mini-game makes me dread disc 3 so much. That said though, Choco hot and cold is one of the best FF mini-games, so at least FF9 balances it out somewhat.
