I want to know, does anyone like this series, if so, name the games. Are you anticipating any of the new ones, like IX or Swords? I am, and I proudly say it.
Don't mind me, just passing through.

Ah, the game that spawned jRPGs... the game that tainted the concept of an RPG indefinitely. Despite what it's done to the RPG genre, I still like the games, though, including the spin-offs.

Greatly anticipating IX and Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker <3

I love the DQ games, I spent something like 80 hours on DQ8 on PS2 and enjoyed every minute of it. I'm eagerly awaiting all the new DS DQ games: DQIV, V, VI, IX and DQM:Joker, but it's DQV that I'm the most excited about - that game is truly amazing and one of the few RPG's that has a storyline that can genuinely be called epic. Seriously, how many other games begin with your character's birth and show him growing up from childhood into adolescence, then adulthood and finally parenthood?

At the beginning you're just a small, weak six-year old, relying on your father to protect you in battle and heal you, but by the end of the game you've become the parent yourself (having made a decision about which of 2 women to marry) and you have to look out for and protect your own children, as your father protected you at the start of the game. There is a real sense of connection with the characters, because by the end, your party is made up of your own family that you made - you, your wife and your children - they are not the usual random warriors, mages etc you team up with in most RPG's. It's kind of heartbreaking to see your own son or daughter be knocked out in battle by the enemies!

Currently the only way to play DQV in english is via a SNES emulator and the fan-translated ROM file, so I'm really glad that it is getting a new release on the DS so more people can play what is truly one of the best console RPG's ever.

All these new DQ games are definitely day 1 purchases for me!

I'm ashamed to say that I have only played 1 Dragon Quest game...
Spoiler:
Rocket Slime
However since that was SO GOOD I plan on getting IV, V, VI, IX, and Joker. Maybe VIII as well...

I like the games, but they're definitely grinders. You literally can't get too far if you don't grind for hours.

I've beaten 1-4 on the NES, 8 on the ps2 and Rocket Slime. I can't wait for 9 and Joker. Now if I can only get 7 for cheap.... and get around to playing 5 and 6.

I've never played a Dragon Quest game.

I mean, they've only released like 2 of them here in Europe, it seems. And if it follows a plot or something, then it just breaks everything.

Anyway, are there even dragons in this game? Considering how little 'dragon ball' had to do with dragons, and considering that the art style is almost identical to said anime series, I'm afraid I'm just gonna get screwed up by trying it out and getting dissapointed.

Each game has it's own plot (apart from very loosely connected stories for I-III and IV-VI), so you can play them in any order. There's really not much to do with dragons either.

Mik-ker! You'd be the type of gamer who'd like VIII!

It's got great animation, story, script... but the best thing is how big and non-linear it is. It's quite difficult but I love it to death.
