I like the fact that they decided to KEEP this as his new Secondary Weapon (I THINK it's the secondary one...)... If some may recall, the original announcement of "Jarate" was posted April 1st, but was deemed an "April Fools Joke" by many for that... Looks like it'll be seen in a LOT of matches from now on! :larry2:

Onto the effects... 35% MORE DAMAGE? I was kind've hoping they'd be stunned for a bit, myself... *shrugs* this works too, I guess... Also, the fact that it stops spies from cloaking is just plain cruel. :karma: And it even has SUPPORT effects!? Valve really took a lot of time to determine different uses for Jarate...

Arena Mode: "WE HAVE NO MEDICS OR ENGINEERS AND I'M ON FIRE!"
"I HAVE JARATE! *throws* *Crash*" "HUZZAH!"

... Okay, let's move on to the achievements: "De-sentry-lized" is just plain dumb, assuming the achievement is to take out 3 sentries with the Sniper Rifle... A Level 1 Sentry can be taken out with a single Charged Shot from the Sniper Rifle, so there's REALLY no challenge to some of them... At least the "Control Point" ones would be fun, since you'd rarely see Snipers run head-first into the fray until now... Also, "Be Polite", since that looks to be a Freezecam-Based one.

Wait a second. Wouldn't that mean he has no way of defending himself if he has the original sniper, the razorback and his Jarate jars? He'd have to use no-scoped shots.

I assume that therein lies the "What should I pick...?" part of choosing what weapons suit the occasion...

Shadilver wrote:

Because they take time to charge...? :eh?:

Actually, just yesterday I took down, like, 8 Sentries because the engineer building them (Same guy, too) was too stupid to realize that just because I shot his Sentry down, doesn't mean I wouldn't do it again if he built it in the EXACT same place as before. :nick-sweat:

Who says that Jarate and Razorback will replace both SMG and Kukri? I'd say there's a pretty big chance they'll both replace SMG.

I thought Wrestle was implying that the razorback was a knife replacement.

Anything anyone says about the unlocks is just speculation. We won't actually know until the update's released tonight. (And even then I guess not until people start unlocking things. XD)

Post subject:  Re: Team Fortress 2

Well, you can make an educated guess;

Both Jarate and Razorback are nice, but not what you'd call incredibly useful. Razorback for Kukri? Definitely a no-go. Razorback is an SMG slot. Jarate for Kukri? Maybe. However, there's one achievement that shows both the Kukri and the Jarate in a single picture, and the name implies chopping someone down after throwing the Jarate over him. Hence, Jarate goes into the SMG slot as well. It's not too strange, as the Spy got two new unlocks for his watch as well.

Oh, and remember achievements very likely won't be the way to unlock things (if they aren't unlocked from the start even!).

Alright, I just wanna comment on a few parts of this message.

First of all, from a personal standpoint, I still think that the Razorback MIGHT be a replacement for the Kukri. In your comment, Tinker, you have shown "Proof" (Quotation marks, since while it might NOT be complete proof yet, I find it highly likely that it is factual) that the Jarate & Kukri can't both be in the same slot, since there is an achievement for using both of them.

Secondly, regarding the Razorback ITSELF, I think it's also meant to make it nearly impossible to have to go "Melee to Melee" against a Spy, hence its' "effects": If you are backstabbed, not ONLY does it stun them temporarily, but the spy cannot use their knife until it "cools down". I find that this is meant so that the Spy must either run away & wait for the knife to cool down, or he must use his pistol and have a gunfight with the Sniper (If one has the Ambassador and the other has the Rifle, No-Scope Rifle vs. "Shoot & Pause" is actually a relatively fair battle given the implied power of the Ambassador.

All this said, though, we have no real idea what can be switched out with what... But regarding the achievements Point that Tinker made, I re-checked all the achievements, and just from the images alone, I deduce that if they ARE unlockable, there's a minimum number of 20 achievements (maybe less...) that require any of the 3 starter weapons (NONE look to be SMG-Based though...). The "Milestones" occur at 10, 16, & 22 achievements... So if these DO require "Milestone Unlockings", it seems very plausible.

... Anyways, that's my take on it... But I'll re-state this now: All we can do for now is naturally assume everything... If I recall, TODAY should be the day the update occurs on if not, then tomorrow...

I disagree, ese. But that aside, I have another question I wanna ask you guys:

Do any of you think that the Spy or Sniper will get a "Kill-Taunt" with their new weapons?

Only if the Spy can't aim/acts idiotically/is on low health, the Sniper will win. Revolvers can still get Snipers down in three shots.

Alright, it's official (Game's updating at this moment for me, but I read this in the "Update News") Both ARE replacements for the SMG...

... Wow, there's really no love for that gun from Valve. *sighs*

Now, let's look at a few of these new updates:

Updates wrote:
Standard sniper rifle now shoots through friendly players

THANK YOU, VALVE!!! F***ING... FINALLY!!!

Updates wrote:
Spies disguised as enemy spies now get a random mask to help complete the disguise, and their target id will be set appropriately

Now it'll be a little LESS "Fail" to see a "Friendly Spy" walk up to enemies without disguising... :nick-sweat:

Updates wrote:
Spies that disguise as a player using an unlockable now show that unlockable in hand

Yay! I can look like I have weapons I don't have now!... *yawns*...

Updates wrote:
Also made it more obvious on first person view model when you're bumped while cloaked

Does it do this?: "ALERT! ALERT! YOU F***ED UP! YOU'RE GONNA DIE NAO!!!"... No? Well it should. :sadshoe:

Updates wrote:
Spies can now pick up health kits for their "disguise health", even when uninjured

THIS is just funny as hell... So lemme get this straight. I can now camp around Ammo Boxes, and ALSO steal the Health while cloaked!?... Okay, I sure hope that's true... Heh...

Updates wrote:
Spies can now use enemy teleporters

Image

Oh god, this'll be fun... Screw taking forever trying to find where they're coming from, just use their Teleporter and sap it once you get there! Heh...

Updates wrote:
Added a new taunt for the Kritzkrieg, which also heals for 10 points

... Wait, what was wrong with the old one!? Why not... I dunno... give the Scout one for his Energy Drink!?

Updates wrote:
The Heavy and Sniper now have new custom death animations

... Okaaaaaaay...

Updates wrote:
Grenades and rockets deflected by a pyro under the effects of Kritzkrieg will now be criticals

Okay, THIS one is just plain cruel. :franny:

Updates wrote:
Flamethrower's air burst now extinguishes fire on friendly targets
[/quote]

... THIS one, I can imagine, will make the original flamethrower PRICELESS now.

Alright, I'm gonna say this now: The update is AWESOME, with the sole exception being the "Unlock System". However, at the current moment, I believe this system was implemented for all the new players coming up on the weekend... If not, rest assured, Valve listens to their gamers: They'll change it... I have yet to see someone say anything good about the "Randomly pick up a new weapon" system... even if the second one I picked up WAS the Cloak & Dagger...

See, the problem is, they're making a "Trading System" for the weapons... which is REALLY stupid... These special weapons should be used by people who can USE the class, not by someone who just got the KGB and switched to Heavy for the first time just to try them out on a serious server...

Special Weapons should be EARNED, not "given"... At least, that's how I see it...

Right. And it's all dependent on how long you play. Even then, it's no guarantee.

Wait a few weeks for a hack to get the Sniper/Spy weapons. It'll come.

As for other classes, I have all of them. I don't want doubles of these. And I don't want noobs being able to get them, while just starting to play TF2, while the rest of us veteran players got them from achievements. :chinami:

Now I see loads of servers dedicated SOLELY to letting people go on them, and leave for as long as they want, and they won't get kicked off for being Idle... Simply made for getting weapons...
