I agreed with most of the review, but they seemed to forget the fact that the recent games have technically all been remakes of games that were only in japan til now. For example, when talking about adding 3d evidence, and fingerprinting in certain cases, he says it would have fit quite well. I actually agree with that, case 3-3 is a good example. However, the game had already been made years ago, and just needed DSinization, and translation.

Although a very well made review, especially the court bits which were funny, they seem to forget that they're DS remakes.

AGAIN.

AA3 has a worse score than both AA1 and AA2, which, seeing as the third has one more case and a more interesting storyline, shouldn't happen.

Also note that GameSpot's only marking with a 0.5 difference in rating so 7.7 > 7.5 may to be true in this case.

That's true, they're only doing it in .5 increments instead of .1 now. JFA probably would have gotten a 7.5 also with the new scoring system.

Meh, It was an okay review. I thought it was Hilarious when Godot said so THATS your secret, then Phoenix sweats. The Ron DeLite joke was also kind of good, even though I actually think he's kinda cool.

I largely agree with the review. The third game for the GBA rehashed a lot of material from the first two games and while it doesn't detract from the overall experience....wait, scratch that part....it feels like they could have at least added a few new features to freshen up the game play.

The Psyche-Locks were a nice addition in the second game but in the third one they didn't feel as refreshing. Also, most of the cases lacked the sort of suspense and character development that the other two games had. In the end, the game just felt a bit rushed.

However, you have to realize that GameSpot doesn't take Japanese-to-English games into account when reviewing the game. They're not paid to give in-depth reviews on games that haven't technically been released in America.

I wouldn't be too hard on the reviewers. If Capcom's not going to market it as a remake, then they can't expect the reviewers to give it that privilege.

=P Besides, reviews are over-rated.

I always listen to their reviews. I don't want to be cheated out of a game that looks awesome on the outside but plays like crap.

If your going to listen to reviews atleast listen to good reviewers, Gamespot<IGN<<<<<<Just about any other review source.

My personal favorites are gametrailers and gamespy, there scores are usually pretty spot on IMO. If you want to see how much Gamespot sucks, read their review of MP3 corruption.

As a supporter of GameSpot, I find it hard to be convinced by the simple argument of "GameSpot sux cux of their review go red it nao ho ho ho". Explain why the review sucks and I might be convinced. Otherwise, you're just wasting your breath.

EDIT: MP3? I was expecting Twilight Princess but that works too.

I so disagree about that! Well I dunno...then again he can be funny (I kid, I like Ronnie)

I think they probably knew it was a remake this time around. (Definetly not like with their JFA review) This time he says there's nothing new "added" to the game. Last time they acted like it was a mystery why absolutely no case at all had built upon the stuff from Case 5 in the first game.

Personally I don't trust any stand-alone reviews, (maybe with the exception of Nintendo Power, but not always) but I do trust the average score that most reviews fall into.

Technically, they're not remakes at all. They're direct ports, remake tends to imply a new look and/or new content.

Well, they do have a new look, don't they? They've got their graphics renewed, and their music has become far better. Sure, it's not a huge change, but it's a change nevertheless.

Re: PW: TnT Gamespot video reviewTopic%20Title

Hmm... that's seriously pushing the definition. I mean, realistically, those changes only occurred because the game would have looked and sounded terrible if remained the same format as it was on the GBA...

And when I said new look, I meant completely different look, something like Final Fantasy III on DS, not just higher resolution sprites. >______>

That's why I recommend reading / watching more reviews than one, and also user reviews on Gamefaqs and so.

I have a feeling that they'll give Apollo a pretty good rating for the fact it has a Case 5 for every case.

Yes, but they should compare it to today's standard. How good it was in 2004 for a GBA game is not important now.

I know, I don't ask them to actually review it differently, just to note that they are GBA games mostly. Ah well. They'll love AA4.

No they shouldn't. Have you seen the reviews for Virtual Console and Xbox Live Arcade games? The reviewers seem to treat each one with the same criteria used in newer games, and that just leads to pissy fanboys. But can you blame them, it's stupid that the graphics on Pac-Man should be bashed simply because they're 20 years old. Same goes for the Phoenix Wright series.

Uh, actually, they review those games on how well they've aged. Metroid got a crap rating because it didn't age at all, and SMB got a good one because it did.

Here's a link to GameSpot's review policy page in case anyone is interested. Please take note that they don't compare a game from three years ago to a current-day one.

Gamespot's reviews really are some of the worst you can find.

They gave Shadow the Hedgehog a 3 and it was very clear from the content of the review that they played little of the game to base this number on. Now... Shadow was not that great a game, but to publish a review that reeks of "I decided this score 8 months ago, after the first time I heard of the concept" is a mockery of reviews everywhere.

:objection:
Excerpt taken from Metroid Gamespot review:

" * Look-alike rooms and invisible passageways make navigation frustrating
* As does the complete lack of an in-game map
* Nintendo didn't bother to fix the constant flickering of character sprites
* Other 2D action romps, such as Super Metroid, have rendered this one obsolete."

You do have a bit of a point, Tinker, but you can't deny they seem to miss the point a bit. Two of these things are complaints about the graphics, and one is just pissy whining about how it's not as good as Super Metroid. I don't know why they bother stating their opinion on the graphics on old games like this, as they can't seem to comprehend that there was once a time that 2-D was all there was. And of course it's not as good as Super Metroid, that re-evelutionized the series for crying out loud. They seemed to have been expecting more of a remake than a port. But the fact that points were docked for these reasons is just undeniably stupid. I agree their SMB review was pretty fair though. Hell, they even made fun of their own dumb point-dockers in "The Bad" section.

User reviews suck donkey dick because Gamefaqs users are, for the most part, idiots. Then again, considering the reason I hate every single one of you so much is because you are in fact all idiots, I can see why you might take them into account.

Also, Gamespots' reviews are fine. They're usually done well, and to the point that I can accurately determine whether or not I'd like the game. You people are whiney bitches. Argh I hate you.

And Phunky Phazon, what else are they supposed to do? Pretend it just came out and give it points for being a crappy classic?

Well, you can't deny that GFAQs users are some of the dumbest on the internet. Those forums are kind of like internet training wheels (lol diamond is the hardest metal on earth).

Not that that excuses Holy Hell from being an annoying bitch. I do agree with him on the fact that Gamespot reviews are quite good, though; but I digress.

I hold an Ancient and a Sage-in-Six-Months account, and thus am part of a very small minority of Gamefaqs users that have stuck around with it for many years. I am well-aware of what I'm stating when I say Gamefaqs users are, for the most part, absolute idiots. It's why I very rarely venture to the Gaming Boards, which tend to be populated by said idiots, and stick to the social areas. Also, I rarely use that Hely_Holl alt (I prefer my Higurashi Cast accounts, alt-wise). Where did you see it?

I find it odd that they call them Veteran accounts, when for the most part they've only been there for six or so months. You'd think it'd be a different name. Also, people like that get moderated fast, due to Gfaqs' incredibly sensitive moderation system.

On the subject of Gamespot reviews, I don't take into account, word-for-word, that everything they say is the truth. I just use the reviews to help me understand what the game is about not how great or sucky it is.

No, that's the problem. They DO pretend it just came out. I don't mind a crappy score if it truly is a crappy game, it's just that most of their complaints stem from graphics and sound, which they seem to think should be like it is in a newer game. Gameplay is a bit more understandable, but even then expectations have changed for that since the old days, which is why it's crappy to bash an older game just because it isn't as fun as some of todays games. They should either: A. Lower their expectations a bit B. Come up with a totally new rating system specifically for older games C. Just not review them and let the fans who played the game way back when tell the younger folks if it's good or not.
