Duke Nukem Forever Teaser Releasing Tomorrow;
by Chris Remo Dec 18, 2007 4:26pm CST
NAME Prepare to hail to the king, baby. George Broussard of 3D Realms has confirmed on his company's official forums that a teaser trailer for the long (long, long) awaited Duke Nukem Forever will be released tomorrow around noon Central time.

Though the video is just a minute-long teaser, it will contain gameplay footage, and Broussard promised more on Duke Nukem Forever is on the way. Along with the announcement came a single teaser screenshot of Duke.

"Last Saturday we had our annual company Christmas party. It was a lot of fun as usual but it featured one special surprise," explained Broussard. "It turns out that several people had been secretly working late nights and into the wee hours of the morning preparing a special video for those at the party. They created a short teaser for Duke Nukem Forever. After seeing the teaser we thought it was something we should share with all of you and while it's just a teaser, rest assured more is coming."

Broussard confirmed that Duke Nukem 3D voice actor Jon St. John is returning to play his titular role, and credited noted video game music composers Jeremy and Julian Soule. This will mark the first new Duke Nukem Forever video in six years, when 3D Realms released the now-classic E3 2001 trailer.

Graphics don't matter, gameplay does. If the gameplay sucks, the game pretty much sucks. =\

Roddy Piper quote FTW... what? He said it waaaay before it was in any game!

Regardless, I also agree with Xero's claim. Many games have these excellent graphics, but terrible control, plot, etc. (CoughredsteelCough!). However, one thing matters: If it's good, then it's worth speaking of.

Hey I still loved it when Duke said it, both are legendary imo.

The trailer looks great, I just want to know if it's a FPS or a 3rd person shooter. It won't matter to me since I saw all I need to see. Still buying it after waiting for over 10 years I think?

I love people who make the generalization that "gr4fix dun mattr". I'd rather look at nice, polished, clean graphics than choppy, unfinished, polygons/bits. You who argue graphics aren't everything are my friends. You who argue graphics don't matter can burn in hell.

EDIT: Oh, Duke Nukem? Never liked him. Won't be paying this game any attention.

17, and uses "Nitiwt"? OH! OUCH! I DID NOT HEAR SUCH A TRUTH!!!......

Regardless, I do agree that at the time, that game was sold as excellent graphics, but here's a fact:

There are ugly games that are playable, and beautiful games that are just horrendous.

Final comment is simple: Since this isn't a topic of graphics vs. Gameplay, there's no real point in continuing this argument.

Except there's an often to a direct correlation between the quality of the visuals and the quality of the gameplay. If a developer is going to put effort into making the game look good, chances are, they'll also make it play well.

There's actually very few games that have what could be considered 'remarkable visuals' and genuinely terrible gameplay.

The only titles that immediately spring to mind are the Donkey Kong Country series and Auto Modelista.

It's supposedly going to be released this year...yippy. Game of the Decade.

Garland-based video games developer 3D Realms has confirmed Duke Nukem Forever, the highly anticipated sequel to its revolutionary 1996 PC game Duke Nukem 3D, is headed for retail release in late 2008, and will be coming to Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3 home video game consoles, as well as the PC.

"We haven't formally announced any platforms for DNF," wrote 3D Realms President Scott Miller in an e-mail exchange. "But, of course hitting the big three makes the most sense (PC, PS3, 360)."

Miller added a note of caution on the 12-years-coming sequel and its release window, claiming, "we may miss the mark by a month or two, but I feel very confident that we're on target this time."

Duke Nukem Forever is not the only 3D Realms title coming to home video game consoles in 2008. Miller also confirmed the existence of a downloadable Xbox Live Arcade version of Duke Nukem 3D, which will feature on-line multiplayer support, Xbox Live achievements, on-line score boards, and a co-op mode.

"We're really excited about bringing classic Duke to the 360," said Miller during an interview. "We're talking to Microsoft about getting a release slot sometime this year."

They generally don't, to me. If they did, would I be playing NES and SNES games still? I mean, I like new graphics, it interests me for a good... three minutes? But then, it's onto the gameplay. I mean, take for instance when I first played Marvel Ultimate Alliance. The intro had some awesome graphics, but then when it came time to play the game, I focused on the gameplay, and the graphics no longer mattered.

Also, this DN game better be good. =\ The last good Duke game I played was 2. I don't remember 3D being much good.

3D was awesome...it took the character of Duke to new heights...without 3D, he'd just be another Commander Keen or Shareware character lost in the crowd. DN4E will be game of the decade, I guarantee it.

If you think this game is going to be game of the decade then you should lay off the opium, seriously. Duke Nukem 3D was a good game, but it was also good because it was one of the only FPS' at the time to be able to utilize 3D well. Nowadays, FPS' have been revolutionized in many, many ways. Duke Nukem is absolutely old hat now. Duke Nukem 3D was good for it's time, yes, but do you honestly expect Duke Nukem Forever to be anything more than a horribly rushed and underdeveloped piece of software?

Let's see, a 12 year development cycle in which the engine has changed at least 5 times, so the game doesn't even have a time backing behind it.

A development team that hasn't stopped changing throughout the cycle, meaning it's going to be a horribly mish-mashed game.

A story which sounds like it was written by a teenage fanfiction wrieter.

A retarded lead developer who defies belief.

A game based on a series that has long since been left in the dust.

And most importantly of all, the 'Duke Nukem' franchise really stopped being cool once you made it pass age 13. The appeal of Duke is long gone, and won't last in today's games. Nowadays, FPS' have atmosphere, well written and engrossing stories, great cutscenes, innovative gameplay, believable characters. What does Duke have? Oh look, he carries big gun and shoots pig men. Wow. That's awesome dude. Run around and shoot pig men with gun. I are muscly man. How the hell is that going to hold a torch to Halo, or Call Of Duty 4? It has neither the great gameplay nor story, nor fanbase (outside a bunch of rabid 20 year olds who refuse to grow up) to support it compared to these sorts of games..

'cool mans theirz girls and u can pay tem to take their tops offff111! LOL thats so coool sweet i have big gun and can shoot them LOL haha i kill strippers!' Seriously, if you somehow think that'll be game of the decade you need to grow up.

I'm actually happy now now, for a while I was under the impression that someone was looking forward to DNF.
