Looking to sate your PW craving? So am I. And so, as a public service, I'm going to post a few reviews of some other lawyer games I know of. Please feel free to comment if you've played them yourselves... Title: OBJECTION!! Demo Developer: Transmedia Games Platform: I have the demo for Windows - I think a Mac version may be available? Gameplay: As a Defense Attorney, you must read lines of testimony and decide whether or not to object, in order to score points. Be careful! In a real courtroom, you'd have less than a second to object, and so your score will drop quickly if you're slow on the draw. Special features: There are limited voice blurbs for the judge, some nice sound effects, and... er, lousy graphics. The biggest draw is that if you buy the full version (for over a hundred dollars), some states in the U.S. recognize this game as a legitimate legal training tool. As such, the game strives to be realistic, including detailed explanations as to why some objections work and others don't, and even offers you the ability to customize the game's legal system to fit your home state. Comments: In theory, this game should be painfully dry - it's basically a very, very quickly timed multiple-choice test, where you have to decide whether a statement is objectionable or not, and choose from one of twelve different kinds of objection. But thanks to the randomization of the testimony, it's replayable. And if you replay it a few times, you might well get a little addicted. The easiest module, I think, is the Criminal Law module. It's clearly introductory, and you'll find yourself objecting to (A)rgumentative, (L)eading, and (F)alse assumption-based questions in no time. But it's good for some quick fun. Sadly, the demo has only one level, with twenty questions per trial - you never get to cross-examine anybody. But it's a very replayable level. And it's educational; who could object to that? Where to get it: Here; click on Demos and fill out some personal information. Yes, it's an annoyance, but... free game. Minor hints: 1) Don't try to object to everything; most questions will be proper. 2) Pay attention to what has already been asked. You need to be able to catch the Prosecutor if they ask a question that assumes facts not in evidence. 3) Read the hints and explanations, and you'll get the hang of it in no time. |
