Uh...watching a video of Super Mario RPG just made me realize...What the hell happened to that genre in the mario series? Eh, maybe its just me...but I think the paper mario series kinda brought the Mario RPG series down a bit... (yes Ive played Paper Mario and Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door) Then I played Superstar Saga and went *squee* all over the place...literally...then I played Partners in Time and...the game...felt more like a chore since it was so short and the game felt so linear... Anyway....enough of my ranting....what do you guys think?

I've never played Super Mario RPG, so I can't say much about it, but I personally loved the Paper Mario series. All three games have excellent plots and characters and are really fun to play. I suppose none of them are really challenging if that's what you're feeling is missing, but I still consider them great games. As for Superstar Saga, I liked it but not as much as the Paper Marios. It's story, though funny and interesting, seemed to lack something. And I agree that Partners in Time was too linear. |

I've never played Paper Mario, but I will always love Super Mario RPG. Thanks to the partner work with SQUARESOFT at that time, im hoping for a remake of it.

I never had the joy of playing SM RPG. (NINTENDO! I NEED IT ON THE VC NOW!) But I can say that if it's anything like the paper Mario and Superstar Saga and Partners in Time then I know I'll love it. |

Honestly, the only thing that makes SMRPG any good in many people's eyes is nostalgia. It was good for its time, but has definitely aged. |

It's definitely aged, but it's still good. I can still pick it up and enjoy playing it. It still has some of my favorite music in a game ever. As for the topic at hand, Square being involved in the creation really helped make SMRPG great. The PM series has been okay (it lacks that extra umph that SMRPG had), but could definitely be better...Superstar Saga was good, and PiT was underwhelimg...it was too short/easy/linear, and buying bros items was lame. Music wasn't that memorable either. I personally think RPGs are one of the N's weaker suits in their gaming library. |

No remakes. D: I like it just the way it was. SMRPG was one of my favorite games ever. If they're gonna put it on the DS, they should just port it. Not remake. But seriously, as a 9-year old I played this game over and over (I could usually beat it within a day each time) and never stopped. It just was too much fun. Paper Mario and the ML games are good, but none live up to the hype that SMRPG was for its time. I can agree it aged, but that won't stop me from playing it again and again, even now. (Oblivion, however, will. >.>; Damned addictive game...) |

I was hoping fore VC but if the do a DS version I would have to side with Holy Hell on this one. I would probably preorder it as soon as the option is available like I did for AJ! |

It won't become available for VC. Squaresoft's being a cheap bitch and won't allow Nintendo to put it up. (Remember that it was pretty much all developed by Square.) |

It was re-submitted to the ESRB for a new rating. Spoiler: Wikipedia Source |

Quote: However, there has been no such confirmation from either Nintendo or Square Enix. Quote: no such confirmation I do not believe. This 'sequel' is a mere rumor. And as for the ESRB, that was submitted long ago, if I recall. It doesn't take the ESRB that long to put up a rating. Especially for a game that you can beat in a day. |

ESRB has been known to put up a rating for a Virtual Console or XBOX Arcade version of a game and then take it down, as if it was canceled or something. |

The big thing is that the fans want this game back. They are pestering both Nintendo and Square to bring it back. This means that people are willing to pay MONEY. Nintendo and Square would be stupid if they didn't bring this gem back. They would be losing potential MONEY. I think that eventually we are going to get this game, one way or another. We got the original SMB2 didn't we? If we can get that, we should be able to get SM RPG. |

SMRPG is a great game mainly because Square worked on it. They are RPG Gods after all. After SMRPG, Square went back to making FF games and kind of shoved Nintendo aside. The Paper Mario games are great, but they don't quite reach the calibur of SMRPG's gameplay. It's like how every Donkey Kong game made after Rare quit sucked. |

People may be pestering, but they might think that it is only a small percentage, and not worth the time. It's sort of like the Mother/Earthbound situation. |

And like Fire Emblem! And look what happened with that! And now Mother 3 could follow that same path thanks to Brawl! And look at how people eat up "new" Mario games! If they re-released SM RPG people would get it even it they didn't even know what it was! |

Quote: And like Fire Emblem! And look what happened with that! And now Mother 3 could follow that same path thanks to Brawl! Maybe...but if Ness in the franchise didn't perk up enough interest in releasing the GBA ports of EB0/1 , I doubt Lucas will for Mother 3/EB2. And IIRC, EB still isn't on the VC. Don't get me wrong, I'd love SMRPG and loads of other games available on DS/GBA/VC/whatever...but I'm not going to get my hopes up for anything, until there's a definite source that says we'll be getting the game. I still have the game pak somewhere anyway. |

Lucky! I never got to play it. That is part of why I want it so bad. That and everything I've heard about is makes it sound awesome! |

I don't advocate it, but there are *ahem* ways to play the game. If you *cough* what I mean... *wheeze* |

Super Mario RPG was an incredibly ugly game made for people that have never played RPGs before. The Paper Mario titles were much better(yes, even Super), and Superstar Saga absolutely blew Square's shitty cash-in out of the water. |
