The NFL, VIZ and cartoon network are all teaming up for the dub of eyeshield 21. It is expected to start being released in the fall but it will only be on toonami jetstream which doesn't necessarily mean it will get to be on tv since hikaru no go has been on tonnami jetstream since the start and still isn't on toonami. Now if only the NBA would get interested in slam dunk.

What is this "Eyeshield 21" anime that you speak of?
Based on the previous posts, I'm assuming it's a sports-type anime based around the world of "football" (as it is known in the US, I guess).
Is there any more information that you could give me on this?
Wii Code: 2249-0584-6376-4379
Brawl Code: 1289-8098-6633/EGX
Mario Kart Wii: 2105-9059-1291

why do you just come into random topics and flame? I thought that was blademaster orca's job. Anyways to the above poster eyeshield 21 is yes a manga/anime series about football. however the school's football team only has two players and they end up recruiting a pretty random crew (forcibly through blackmail and threats) to help them. the main character is one of those random people who actually got fast legs from running away from bullies and running to get stuff for bullies all grade school so the quarterback MAKES him join. The quarterback is kind of a scary guy.

If the announcer isn't voiced by John Madden, it will suck.

And here I hoped that Eyeshield wouldn't have to suffer the terrible fate that is American dubbing...

OK, it isn't all that bad. If the anime comes to the U.S and gets popular there, then there might be a chance that merchandise (like the wonderful games and artbooks) will be translated and released, which means that we can buy the goodies in easier ways than expensive import.

I'm happy as long as the character names' won't be "Americanized"...

lol they won't it's a viz dub what about their dubs of hikaru no go, Prince of tennis, and naruto where they didn't change any names. Please in the last ten years the only company besides 4kids to change names in an anime was tokyopop with their release of the initial D anime.

What will be Sena's annoying catch-phrase!?

I still stand by my "John Madden as the announcer or bust" claim.

Ew fansubs.

I'd rather get an accurate translation, thank you. :nick: Besides I heard the anime sucked compared to the manga anyway.

I rather wonder how they will handle Hiruma...

I wouldn't say that it sucks... There are some unnecessary fillers and some bad art here and there, but it's not that bad.
With that said, the manga is still better :godot:

They'll pretty much cut all the places where he references guns (which is 80% of his non-game dialogue... and even THEN) and replace them with constipated faces of Sena powering up.

Well the anime itself already did most of the censoring for Hiruma to begin with, so they really won't have much to worry about.

I swear fansubbers have something wrong with their brain. Listen 4kids did not buy it and also we are no longer dubbing stuff in the early nineties. Uncut anime is on TV! The only thing viz has ever censored in any of their series is in naruto two people getting crucified and when haku was literally punched through. No script changes whatsoever and before someone says "WHAT ABOUT THAT STUPID GAIJIN BELIEVE IT?!?!!" naruto said that EVEN MORE in the original Japanese. Dubs are done well now ok as long as it isn't 4kids eyeshield fans should be rejoicing since probably the best company to put their series out in the open did buy it. Also there won't be name changes or any americanization.

Actually Japan made that edit with Haku. And that crucified edit is justified too. Since people sue over the dumbest shit in America. Actually, the crucified thing probably is there just to look cool.

oh don't get me wrong I love the naruto dub and think the company is doing a wonderful job but for haku the gore was still somewhat toned down for the american release if you get the uncut dvds there is a noticable difference in the cartoon network airing they zoomed in on haku's face and edited it out so he just coughed blood instead of pretty much throwing up a pint.

You do all realize that when Christians first tried to spread to Japan, the only thing that interested the Shogun was Crucifixion, since it was a form of execution they hadn't used yet, right?

Anyway, I prefer my anime in Japanese, since it is Japanese in origin. I don't watch foreign movies in English, and I don't see why I should watch foreign television in English.

Also, fansubs are free.

Should be interesting to see how Hiruma's unique take on managing a football team will translate here.

"Hey kids! Want to start your own football team? Well forget any of that friendship crap! Just locate the best players availible, find out their darkest secrets, and then force them to join your team, using guns if nessesary! They'll have no choice but to become comrades! Oh, and make you score with the main character's childfriend and love interest. That'll learn him!"

The only reason I'd watch this if it was an animated version of the manga, and if they already censored Hiruma... fuck that.

If it's on TV, chances are the dub sucks. Otherwise, it'll be decent.

Ergo proxy's, Tenjou tenge's, and Noein's dubs were pretty decent and I saw them on TV. :|

Tokko's main character needs work.
