...and vice versa.

With movies that I hate, but everyone else likes; I'm going with Napoleon Dynamite. I haven't felt this angry towards a film in a long time. The acting felt stiff and awkward. Every goddamn scene was so painful and cringeworthy. Napoleon is one of the worst characters ever put on film, and he deserves every bad thing that happens to him. The only part that "entertained" me was the dancing sequence. Other than that, this film sucked big time. Why do people like it so much, I'll never know.

In terms of movies that I like, but everyone else hates; I'm going with Spider-Man 3 and X-Men 3. Neither is a masterpiece by any means, but I think these films get unnecessary hate. I honestly enjoyed them as much as the other films in their respective series.

What are your picks?

I was already thinking it before I opened the topic, but you took the words right out of my mouth when you mentioned Napoleon Dynamite. Since you pretty much voiced my opinion on the movie, I guess I'll take how I feel about it in a bit of a different direction. This is one of the few movies that bored me and put me to sleep, but the biggest thing I really hated about this movie was every time I'd go to my church's youth group after this movie was released and how they'd constantly quote it, youth pastor included, and how they felt this movie was the best thing ever. This went on for at least a year and it drove me up a wall. Didn't help that I was already left out of my youth group because I wasn't "cool" enough, and apparently not loving this movie and wanting to quote it all the time only made it worse. Honestly, I have more bad memories of how this movie affected things around me rather than how pointless it was in the first place. Yeah, I didn't have the most social life as a teen, especially as far as church went and how my whole youth group would purposely not include me in anything they did (again, youth pastor included), and this movie REALLY didn't help. If I could say I did get one thing from this, is from then on, I made it my goal to treat others with kindness no matter how much of a jerk or how much they bully me because I don't want to make anyone feel the same way I felt when I was in my church's youth group.

Sorry for the mini-rant, but I don't have a fond past with this movie. I hate it for what it is and all the bad memories it brings up because of it.

As far as a movie that I liked that everyone else hated, the most recent that comes to mind would be the latest Superman movie, Man of Steel. I don't think it's a masterpiece by any means, I can see where all the negativity and dislike for the movie stem from, and I can see its faults, but I still enjoyed it for what it was. I figure if it's something I wouldn't mind watching again, then it's decent enough for me and I feel that this is one of those films that fits that criteria.

A movie I hate that everyone else seems to like... Matilda.
Now, I read the book after hearing about the movie's existence a year or so ago. The book was okay, it was definitely a children's book. And I'll be honest, I didn't see the whole movie. The movie was playing on one of Sky's channels and I watched only a good three minutes of the movie and realized what a bundle of crap it was.
The characters looked nothing like what they were described in the book - quite the opposite, we had chubby Danny DeVito as the dad and a thin mother, where in the book it was a ratty father and a chubby mother. The closest to the book's description was Trunchbull or whatever her name was.
The ending of the movie was all wrong! Matila lost her psychic powers after Trunchbull left the school and she was put into a higher class, where she was actually challenged by the work and so her brain wasn't overstimulated. Or whatever the reason was given in the book.
I'm not saying the actor's are bad, just that it's a bad adaption.
But people seem to love this movie. Hell if I know why.

And I'll mention it cause someone has to... the Twilight movies.
I know there is a huge hate-base, but I am still listing it as movies that people love that I, and others, hate. Terrible characters, terrible story, idiotic premise, although the movies seemed to have downplayed the many, many Mormon religion things that were in the books. There are still some there, but not as many as in the books.
So I guess that's something.

I can't stand these movies either, but what really irritates me is when fans go on about how the book was much better. I read some of it, and I found it worse. I couldn't get past chapter 7. I found Bella to be an absolute annoying snob. Just her name annoys me. :edgeworth:

I don't get why the books are supposedly better. For one, there is a lot more Mormon stuff put in - I don't know mormonism, but when I read this page's author going through the books, saying that Meyer was basically describing Edward as the Mormon Prophet... also, the books have two problems. Tons and tons and tons of repeated words about Edward's beauty and perfection and SPARKLES. And the book goes blank for several pages in the second one. That is such a shit move to do. If she wants Bella to be shown as a zombiefied version of herself or being "blank/empty" for those months, just start the next chapter with her waking up from a sleep-like state. Don't waste paper.

I think I'll be dropping a bomb here, but Closer. I can't attack the performance of the actors, but I never saw what's so good about the story of this film... A stupid love square, people cheating, people crying, that music "and so it iiiiiis :larry: ...". Hell, I almost fell asleep when I saw the film for the first time. Now that I think about it, I hate almost all films with Natalie Portman...

There are a lot of them, since my movie-taste borders on the taste of a pretentious prick (not all the time, though, definitely not), but I simply couldn't stand Garden State. No, it's not quirky. No, it's not cute. "Oh, go off meds and find a quirky, cute, indie-movie-eccentric girl and be happy". No.

I've always loved cult films that everyone hates. especially critics.
Repo the Genetic Opera has to be my favourite though! it's where my title comes from.

Oh and I cannot sit through any action hero movie. I just can't. Sorry?
