"Family Guy's" Cleveland Brown might be getting his own show.
Fox and 20th Century Fox TV are developing a spinoff from its hit animated series centered on Peter Griffin's bathtub-accident-prone neighbor, sources said.

The project, tentatively titled "Cleveland," is being written by "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane, Mike Henry -- who voices Cleveland and serves as writer-producer on the series -- and "The Simpsons" alum Rich Appel, executive producer/showrunner on MacFarlane's other animated comedy for Fox, "American Dad."

Cleveland, who plays off black stereotypes, is the most levelheaded among Griffin's trio of friends.
Once canceled by Fox, "Family Guy" triumphantly returned on the network in 2005. It is Fox's top-rated comedy and has grown into a $1 billion franchise with red-hot DVD and merchandise sales.

Fox brass had made it a priority to find another hit animated comedy to complement its Sunday comedy lineup. It has several cartoons in the works, including an animated version of its 2003 short-lived live-action comedy "The Pitts," from "Simpsons" veteran Mike Scully; "Relative Insanity," executive produced by Jack Black; and "Mothballs," from "Drawn Together" creators Matt Silverstein and Dave Jeser.
In addition to "Cleveland," Fox and 20th TV also are developing a spinoff of the drama series "Prison Break," set at a female prison.
MacFarlane and Appel are repped by Endeavor.

Cleveland eh? I expected Joe or Quag to get a spinoff before Cleveland.

...a Prison Break female spinoff?

Sounds boring. You can give him some episodes, but a whole spin off series to Cleveland? I think it wouldn't work out since you don't have a diverse cast of characters.

I think Family Guy is losing its touch anyways.

That would be awful.

Cleveland at least could, in theory, carry a show.

Because obviously the show is going to be exclusively starring Cleveland with absolutely no supporting cast.

Okay, they have his ex Loretta and his son Cleveland Jr. Without using the Griffins, who else do they have to use?

Maybe the spin off will be good and maybe it will be horrible, but I'm predicting it won't be good and will be cut after a few episodes.

... New characters? Loretta and Cleveland Jr. (who doesn't even exist anymore) aren't even in Cleveland's life.

This might work I guess. I mean, somehow we got Family Matters out of Perfect Strangers, so who knows how they might carry a show with Cleveland.

I dunno. It sounds like it may crash to me. Cleveland doesn't seem very...spontaneous..as a character, anyway.

"Bathtub-accident-prone"? That happened like two times and they were both due to Peter. Is that really the only way to identify him?

Seems like a repeatable solution to me...

I present evidence to prove that Mike McFarland is repeating a spinoff situation:

*presents All in the Family Wikipedia Link*

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_in_the_Family

:udgy: : What is this? "All in the Family"?

:phoenix: :Yes, All in the Family was a CBS Sitcom that aired in the 70's, starring one of the most famous TV Sitcom characters in history: Archie Bunker.

:objection:

:edgeworth: : What does that have to do with the current case?

:objection:

:phoenix: :It has everything do do with this case! And i can prove it!?

:edgeworth: :WHAAT!?

:udgy: :Mr. Wright, what is this decisive evidence that proves Family Guy is copying All in the Family?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Jeffersons

:udgy: : Wh-What is this!? This is an entirely different sitcom called "The Jeffersons"!

:objection:

:phoenix: : Not true! If you look closer at the "All in the Family" Wikipedia thread, you will realize that "All in the Family" produced the most spinoff shows than any other sitcom in history. "Maude", "Gloria", "Good Times", "Checking In", and, of course, "The Jeffersons".

:udgy: : Very well, I see no further need to continue this trial. We find the lack of series continuation originality of Mike McFarland...

:guilty:

:udgy: : It is odd that you would prosecute, Mr. Wright...

:phoenix: : just unearthing the truth, your honor. Nothing more.

All of you thinking it's going to be total shit only reaffirms my belief that it will be actually decent.

I'm not too familiar with Family Guy, but Frasier was a great spin-off that was based on a character from Cheers who wasn't very interesting until the spin-off.
So, I'd say give it a chance. Just don't expect that much from this spin-off.

That, sir, was proof that spinoff integrity is dead.

I would've rather seen a spinoff featuring the following Family Guy characters:

-Jesus

-Ernie the Giant Chicken

-Mayor Adam West

...but they picked a guy who's in every Family Guy episode anyway. Erm... why?

All three of those choices are awful because they're just like Family Guy in general: nonsensical and spontaneous. It's just like how Quagmire having his own show would be the worst idea ever: they'd burn out after just 15 minutes into the pilot.

They could if they made him interesting like the time everyone expected him to mack on Meg except he actually gave her good advice, showing he's not the sleazebag everyone makes him out to be.

I don't mind spinoffs, just not spinoffs of frequently recurring characters. If Cleveland does move out, it's The Jeffersons all over again. If Cleveland DOESN'T move out, there's no point in focusing it on Cleveland... that's all I'm saying.

I am actually rather fond of any situation where Quagmire shows personality and isn't being an anachronistic animal house ... creature. His "I love Wings" rant, particularly, was one of his better moments.

He can be a rather endearing character in these situations.
