'cause there's 3 people (2 of them sporting avatars, no less) that like Eyeshield 21 and there hasn't been a thread on it yet, here's one.

So, how about 'dem Devil Bats, huh?

Sakuraba is awesome. I particularly loved the sequences and stories that led up to his transformation. As your title says, from bishie to real man.

I also really like Suzuna and the three punks.

I agree that this is probably one of the best "side-stories" in the series.

Yeah, the three punks are cool, especially the leader of the 3 punks, who keeps getting told to ditch them because they're not good.

Personally, I like Komusubi better than Kurita, but they're laying it thick with the "speech that only strong men understand". Once or twice is okay, but it's about as tired as Hiruma = Gun Bunny schtick.

The three hah brothers are where it is at! Juumonji is the leader, Togano is the Shounen jump reader, and Kuroki (my favorite!) is the violent one with long dark hair. Yes I like eyeshield 21 very much and those three are my favorite characters. I also like Rui though his long arms and crazy punk attitude were just cool. I've only read the first thirteen volumes but I am going to start reading scans probably soon. I like to support and buy manga but you can only wait so long you know? (I'll still buy the manga as it comes out though to have it)

I figured an ES21 thread would show up at some point.

I like the manga; I haven't read it in a while, but I'm up to vol. 20 or so--that was the last time I read it, anyway. I think one of the things I really like about the ES21 manga (didn't watch the anime cause I didn't like how it looked) is how it takes a sport that for Americans is super saturated and makes it interesting; I was never a huge football fan, to be honest, but ES21 made me enjoy it mostly as a device for the characters to interact, not as the main attraction. (Although I like the sports too--it fulfills the 'action' of the series, and I also like sports manga, they're fun.)

ES21's got a lot of great characters in it too, so I've always been pretty suprised at how the creator manages to craft numerous different people, and keep them recurring even to a small degree. The humor is pretty great too.

Favorite character..hmm. I'd have to think about that.

After speaking with Holyman about this I suppose it does serve a purpose and it serves it well, but does anyone else think that Shin's strength is so over the top that it's no longer funny but more on the irritating side? I understand the metaphor and how it shows just how far behind Sena is, but breaking soda machines by touching them?

Well, that one isn't such a big deal. I do that all the time too. However, I can't say I've ever lifted one thousand kilos and an elephant with one arm.

I thought it was another case of "Shin's bad with machines lol."

Although the camera one and the GPS one were far better for that.

Shin breaking the camcorder is still one of my favorite scenes of all time.

Seriously, that was the "coincidence" that made me laugh. I figured they'd find a way to get rid of Shin so that Sena could go out and run without Oujou noticing, but to have him just break the camcorder was priceless.

I hadn't even considered that for the reason. Seems very possible.
The best part about Shin is his innate ability to ruin technology. I love his expression when he does so, especially for the camcorder. Then when he pretends to have nothing to do with it later in the locker room.

By the way Hatter, I really like your avatar. It's entertaining and true to say the least.

Thanks. I was stunned when I saw the transformation, and thus I "made" a userpic to commemorate the occasion.

I give it 2 weeks to a month until I find something that makes me go ballistic with emotion to replace it. There's even an inside I don't expect anyone here to get, but it's there if only because I'm using the avatar at other places, too, so...

That was an awesome scene. One of the best and most unexected twists in the series.
I keep changing my avatar to fit how I'm feeling.

Especially since Sakuraba is probably the anti-fangirl magnet... I know a lot of fangirls that'd have called for the mangaka's head for that move.

For some reason "tough" sakuraba reminds me so much of Takehiko inoue's art style. He looks freaking dead on like Takuan in Vagabond and similar to Hanamichi in the Toyatoma game.

Well, if one were to look at it realistically, there are only so many types of character in a story. Odds are one will seem to mix.

And shaved head + goatee can only go so far in the look department.

I am getting anxious waiting for the new ones. It's times like these I really wish I knew Japanese fluently.
