As some of you may know, Toonami has come to an end this weekend after about 11 years of being on Cartoon Network's airwaves bring us anime. Even before, the existence of Adult Swim and Sci-fi's Ani-Monday. Even, Tom has said his good-bye and flew off into the sun-settish background. Perhaps some of us would even like to share our favorite shows they aired over the years. So, let's take a moment to remember any of the good time and shows we had with it.
...
What do you think is going to happen Toonami now? Just a memory of the past? Transformed into another channel like Boomerang? What's your opinion on the matter? :Brush-Sniff:

..wow, has it really been 11 years?

I remember when it first debuted in Cartoon Network with Moltar. It wasn't anything special to me back then, just old HB superhero cartoons and Voltron. It wasn't until they started bringing in Sailor Moon that I started to watch Toonami near religiously. Eventually they started bringing in more anime like Dragon Ball, the Tenchi series, Gundam/Wing/Z/8th MS/etc., Zoids, and so on, which was really cool at the time. Of course a lot of us were pissed because some of these shows ended up censored for their timeslots(except Gundam Wing during the Midnight Run), which looking back was probably me at my most lester poindextery.

P.S.- TOM DIES

It almost seems sad to see Toonami go, despite being a rather poor shadow of what it once was - an after-school treat that was just really cool. Still, after they changed TOM's design into the TOMas-the-tank-engine form he had for the last few months, I knew it was only a matter of time before it stopped riding the coattails of its past success and fell flat.

I just hope they replace it with something worthwhile, though. Anything but that Fried Dynamite crap will do.

I just realized the off-hand reference to Cowboy Bebop. </3

But yeah this sucks. Especially considering how they did it so tragically like that. Normally something would just stop of nowhere but here... <///3

Broad argument is broad. :/

I liked Toonami. Thanks to it (more or less) I was introduced to anime - via Ronin Warriors, Dragonball Z, and Gundam Wing - which played a big part of my life when I was a teenager. My favorite show had to be Ronin Warriors. I was ten years old at the time and really into the "SPECIAL ARMOR POWER UP" spiel.

I was an on-again-off-again viewer of Toonami, mostly during the days of Gundam Wing.
Lost interest during Zoids, and came back to it when Naruto caught the attention of my older brother (at the time, I tried to stay away from "mainstream anime" because it was putting a strain on my wallet). I tried to keep up with it a bit during their run of One-Piece, then enjoyed watching the old Samurai Jack episodes.

It was cool that they let Toonami go out like that.

So sad to see Toonami go. I missed the ending because all my cable shows are on Eastern time even though I'm in Pacific time. I even checked a recording of Bleach, but I missed it there too. I first watched Toonami when Robotech was on. I was so happy when they started airing Sailor Moon R, because I really wanted to know what happened next. The regular channels kept repeating the same 65 episodes. It's thanks to Toonami that I got to watch Blue Submarine No. 6, Zoids, The Big O, and Outlaw Star.

I watched Gundam Wing on the regular time, and stayed up at 12:00 a.m. to watch the Gundam Wing Uncut on the Midnight run too. I even played a bunch of the Toonami interactive games.

I kinda stopped watching right after they took One Piece off.

In case you missed it, Toonami's goodbye can be found here. It was on YouTube literally minutes after it aired. I'm gonna miss Steve Blum as TOM after hearing him voice the character for so long.

Well, aside from Moltar and the four TOMs, I suppose you could call Sara the A.I., and the two robots, Flash and T, co-hosts.

I used to watch Reboot all the time on that channel, and also... I would rather not say. But basically, Reboot is a child hood favorite show of mine. But what I don't get is why they decided to finish the series years after the last episode. Or at least I heard rumors they just decided to revive the series.

When was Thundercats ever on Toonami? Or was I too little?

To be honest, I thought it ended a couple of years ago too. I remember watching Dragonball Z on it every day at my grandma's house :gant: And if I didn't come, I'd phone them up to tape it :garyuu: The night before last, I had a dream where Dragonball Z came back on. Then yesterday morning, I went on here and found this topic. What a coincidence :keiko: I need more Dragonball Z anyway!

Toonami... Damn. Cartoon Network has lost it's mind at long last.
That was their biggest source of revenue and they axe it.
*sigh*
This is why I stopped watching that channel. Nickelodeon also failed me... Thank God for crime dramas and Heroes....

I liked watching YuYu Hakusho, and Zatch Bell! was just awesome.

Well, Toonami started dying around its tenth birthday, when CN changed the theme from space exploration to a jungle base...thing. TOM was made into a junk-ish robot with a Thomas-the-tank-engine-like face, given two rather useless co-hosts, and Sarah was removed altogether. Their viewership was flailing before the change, but you can probably imagine what the change itself caused among long-time fans. You could say Toonami's been on life-support for the last year and a half, and CN just finally decided to pull the plug before it got worse.

Oh my.... I had no idea that was the last showing of Toonami. I've been an avid viewing since it came on... when I was 5. Of course, I lost interest somewhat this year...

I just hope they put an anime-ish shower to replace Toonami.

Mmm... Fair point. I stopped watching around the time they changed it, so I wouldn't know.

Still makes me wonder where CN's brains are. Now, it's for different reasons.

I remember when Toonami first popped up on CN. I loved it because it was showing Voltron, which to this day is still one of my favorite anime. I watched it as much as I could, which wasn't often because it wasn't part of my fam's cable package at the time so I had to see it at my grandparent's place. It wasn't until they started running Tenchi (another of my faves) that we got it and would watch it every day. I stopped watching it sometime during it's last incarnation (the jungle...thing) but I still love it for having been the first way I could watch anime on a regular basis. I'm sad to see it go.

You mean like the Anime Channel we have over here, with only 2 actual shows?

That's alot like me. Only it was with DBZ. And I didn't end up getting Toonami at my house anyway. And I stopped watching Toonami when DBZ went away, coz I didn't really watch anything else on it. But I don't remember seeing all these other shows on it, I have a feeling that the UK Toonami is different from your one...

Cowboy Bebop's on one of the channels, and Naruto is on Jetix but it's the stupid censored + badly dubbed UK one. I'm kinda bored of Naruto now anyway. I just want DBZ back on - that'll make TV perfect.

I know how you feel. Thanks to my sister, I only got to start watching DBZ from the Cell Saga :sadshoe: Because she apparently 'didn't like it'. But when she actually SAW it, she loved it and we finally got to watch it. Thank goodness for repeats.
