as for the book itself: hopefully it'll stay as faithful as possible, and them not including translation notes makes me somewhat more hopeful. but really haruhi is the biggest anime/manga/novel franchise around today; it makes sense they'd try to whore it out.
my problem mostly comes from the fact that they're going to market it towards preteen girls (meaning the twilight crowd). i don't want to be buying the same book as some stupid teeny bopper.

Doubt it, they know teenagers have already dealt with these issues before. Harry Potter essentialy dealt with Death, Romance and showed blood- so I doubt Haruhi is going to be censored in that category. I think what they're trying to achieve here is immortalize the Haruhi series in the same light as other more well-known anime on a mainstream global scale (Akira, GitS, DBZ, anything from Hayao Miyazaki, etc.).
If that's the case, I hope they succeed.
