With anime, I have started watching Ao no Exorcist (which I /randomly/ chose from a list of alphabetical anime, having no clue it was getting so popular. go figure.) Typical shounen but *shrug* it has its moments.
I recently watched Baccano! (I bit too gory for my liking, but I liked the characters) and Durarara!! (I ended up really liking this one, so I'm watching the dub on Adult Swim to see if they've done it justice) but besides these and Gurren Lagann, I haven't really found anime that have a significant "wow" factor for me.
(on a side note, the same thing is happening with video games for me. I've gone from Final Fantasy and Persona to Mirror's Edge, Portal 2, and InFAMOUS

YESSSSSSSS. I couldn't get the Lion King parallels out of my head, but the production value, the plot, the characters... this is gonna be an amazing series.
Next week's episode airs during the Phineas and Ferb movie thing, so I'll have to record the movie and watch Thundercats because the animation is so beautiful~

It's got everything that makes a great Futurama episode: humor, references to the past, references to the future (but the past to them), and an emotionally powerful ending.
Oh and if you think that "just because it's a new episode then it sucks" then you oughta beat your face with a rolling pin until all of your teeth are gone. Sure not all of the new episodes are as good as Cold Warriors or Jurassic Bark or Luck of the Fryrish but you know, they're still pretty damn good. Some of them like The Late Phillip J. Fry and The Prisoner of Benda were definitely topnotch.
