There's nothing special about the plot, the characters are cliche'd, and the main character can't even actually sing in real life, and it has the worst morals ever.
I don't know why all these people (even some parents) are hyping over it.

Overrated to the point of no return. It was a Grease rip-off and HSM2 was another way Disney decided to milk their sucess.
Contrary to popular hater-belief, he can sing. It's just that he's a baritone and the voice needed for some of the songs called for a tenor. That's why they blended his voice, not because he can't sing.

Same goes vice-versa for me, sometimes.
English voice-acting is underrated because the quality has improved so much over the last decade. That's not to say that it's all great, but Japanese voice-acting isn't always the greatest either. Also, if you don't know Japanese really well, it's impossible to really tell "bad" acting unless the voices are really out-of-character. I just think that English voice-acting gets too hard of a rap.

First of all, the common misconception is that in cartoons, people think that they use too much of the same voice actors over and over. However, this happens in anime as well, but is not as noticeble due to many more titles to be in.
Second, the majority of seiyuus use their natural voice to portray, therefore, they technically should be considered normal actors (well really they are; a lot of them are basically celebrities who know how to act live action and sing). In American voice acting, these people have to put effort by changing their voice drastically to be the different characters they are. So the awkwardness of having Character A from Universe 9 with the same exact voice of Character B from Universe 10 can be funny and amusing at times, but not all the time.
In fact, there are characters who are portrayed by different people, but sound exactly the same in anime a lot of times. You have the typical "kind mother but ditzy" voice and the "gruff and loud big guy" voice and there's more I can say...

I think that Inu-yasha is extremely over-rated. I hate that show, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I'm not even going to hide the word hate for being so strong, I want to hurt the guy who made that show.

How could I have forgotten Inu-Yasha? Maybe it's because I'm subconsciously blocking it from my mind. Again, a friend had me watch a couple of episodes on DVD because she loved it sooooooo much. Astoundingly, I was not impressed.
The idea was boring, the plot was unengaging, the characters were irritating, etc. If it had done well on any one of those aspects, I might have been able to bear it, but it fell totally flat on every front.
