You realize I dropped "robosexual" as a joke term.

Though in my opinion, he showed way more interest in the androids and the mecha than he ever did in actual human females.

Now hold it right there, because now you're just throwing obvious contradictions in your statements. let us recap:
1. If your anime needs to make a face to tell you it's time to laugh, your anime a shit.
2. If your slice of life anime has people with superpowers, your anime a shit - FMA
3. If your anime needs to have someone explain a new power every episode, your anime a shit - DBZ (learning kao-ken and spirit bomb conveniently off screen), FMA can also invent powers, since everything can be reconstructed through alchemy
4. If the hero of your anime is super strong but is powerless to the new villain of the week your anime a shit. - DBZ + GT x 100, Hajime no Ippo also is guilty of this one imho.
5a. If your anime has unnecessary sexual tension, your anime a shit
5b. If your anime has a minority for the sake of having a minority, your anime a shit. - DBZ had one black guy who was the reïncarnation of buu I believe.
5c. If your anime has fanservice in the majority of episodes, your anime a shit.
6. If the meekest character is secretly the strongest one in the group with no proper explanation for why that is, your anime a shit. - DBZ : gohan
7. If your anime NEEDS to have a fight scene in every episode to be interesting, your anime a shit. - DBZ and Bo Bo Bo
8. If the student never truly surpasses the the teacher, your anime a shit.
9. If a character "dies" and comes back due to some arbitrary reason, your anime a shit
10. If any given character can be considered "Evil" for no reason other than the sake of being evil, your anime a shit. *sigh* FMA, DBZ and Bo Bo Bo has these guys to.

Note that I never watched big o or zatch bell, but the anime you like mostly fall into one of these categories one way or another.
Image gotta fight jantran with more jantran.

2. If your slice of life anime has people with superpowers, your anime a shit - FMA
>Implying two brothers wandering the country looking for the means to get their bodies back is a "slice of life"
3. If your anime needs to have someone explain a new power every episode, your anime a shit - DBZ (learning kao-ken and spirit bomb conveniently off screen),
He learned both of these techniques from King Kai, and uses them multiple times
FMA can also invent powers, since everything can be reconstructed through alchemy
The only thing that inhibits a person's alchemical ability is practice and imagination, anything one alchemist can do so can the others.
When I made this rule, it was more aimed at animes that have people with a thousand powers who never uses the same one twice.

4. If the hero of your anime is super strong but is powerless to the new villain of the week your anime a shit. - DBZ + GT x 100,
Name me one villain in DBZ where this was the case,
Let's look at the main 4 bad guys from the DBZ series

Raditz + Vegeta + Nappa

Goku struggles to kill Raditz but still eventually beats him at the cost of his own life

After training long and hard, Goku easily defeats Nappa.

Vegeta on the other hand survived a Spirit bomb, and was left alive because Goku wanted to fight him again.

Frieza

One of the most powerful being in the universe, it took Goku going super saiyan to defeat him, but at no point did he "lose" to Freiza

Cell
A perfect creature, it combines the DNA and abilities of some of the most powerful people ever to exist.
He challenged the people of Earth to a tournament, and lost it to an eleven year old kid

Buu

Probably the closest here to breaking the rule, but he was introduced for the series finale so he wasn't the "Villain of the week" he was THE Villain.

Hajime no Ippo also is guilty of this one imho.
Ippo lost one fight, and he wasn't "powerless" during ANY of his fights.

5b. If your anime has a minority for the sake of having a minority, your anime a shit. - DBZ had one black guy who was the reïncarnation of buu I believe.

You're referring to Uub, and he doesn't even come close to fulfilling the role of token black

6. If the meekest character is secretly the strongest one in the group with no proper explanation for why that is, your anime a shit. - DBZ : gohan

Gohan is half human half saiyan, please note that both Trunks and Goten were able to go SSJ1 much earlier than Goku and Vegeta were. This trait is shown in hybrids, not meek characters.

7. If your anime NEEDS to have a fight scene in every episode to be interesting, your anime a shit. -
DBZ. Plenty of the "filler" episodes were interesting.

Bo Bo Bo. It's a parody of action animes, and again the filler episodes were interesting.

10. If any given character can be considered "Evil" for no reason other than the sake of being evil, your anime a shit. *sigh* FMA, DBZ and Bo Bo Bo has these guys to.

FMA. If you're referring to any of the seven sins it's been shown that they all had perfectly understandable reasons for what they did,
If you're referring to Father, he was afraid of being powerless, like he was when he was stuck in the flask.
So much so he sought to be the most powerful being in existence, so nothing could ever bind him again

DBZ All of the Villains had reasons for their actions

Raditz was employed by Freiza to wipe out all life on an unnamed planet, unable to do so by himself he seeks Goku's aid.
Upon seeing his own brother isn't acting like a true saiyan, he does all he can to try and get goku to fight.

From Raditz's perspective: "Saiyans have been given jobs, I need help with mine so I'll ask my brother.
My brother has befrended the people he was ordered to kill? There are only 4 Saiyans left! Who knows what Freiza will do to him!"

Vegeta received a message saying that one of the last 4 saiyans in existence was killed, and that a certain planet had balls that gave wishes.
After years of being mistreated by Freiza, Vegeta would do anything to get back at him.

Freiza
Runs the Planet Trade Organization, He's a warlord and a businessman, and business is good.
He obliterated the Saiyans because he feared the legendary Super Saiyan

Cell

Apart from later on wanting to destroy everything not "perfect" Cell only sought to become stronger.
He displays characteristics of all the people who's DNA he uses.

Buu

Buu is a child, a super powerful being with no concept of right or wrong. To be "evil" is to do bad things even though you KNEW they were wrong.
He even had the patience to fight Gotenks, he wasn't in it to kill people, he was just a kid who wanted to have fun

Bo Bo Bo. It's a parody, it's not supposed to make sense

You know, normally I would let something like this slide but this logic is way too flawed on some parts for me to let it go.

point 3: inventing powers. Yes goku learned kao-ken and spirit bomb from king kai, but how? He chased a monkey and hit a bee with a hammer to improve his strength and suddenly he knows 2 whole new techniques? Play the episodes back, training the actual moves is never shown on screen.
Also when is the kao-ken used after freeza? My memory isn't 100% on this one, but I'm sure goku can suddenly instant teleport and super saiyan makes kao-ken obsolete. Spririt bomb is used a lot through the series though, but it happens regularly that they suddenly have new powers, because of the hyperbolic time chamber.

But this argument pales in comparison to number 4, characters being strong untill the next boss comes along:
Up untill freeza I can follow the logic, but everything after that is just f'ing bonkers. Goku becomes the legendary super saiyan that comes (as according to the legend) only once every 1000 years. In this form he defeats the goddamn ruler of the universe, so that's fine, but the next move of the anime is: HEY GUYS, THERE WAS A GUY AND HE BUILD 3 ROBOTS WHO ARE WAY STRONGER THAN THE RULER OF THE UNIVERSE SO GOOD LUCK WITH THAT. Note that cell was also created by dr whatshisname, just like the androids, who just all happen to be stronger than the ruler of the universe or a being of legend that comes every 1000 years.

The other points are debatable, but these 2 things.... no, just NO!

It was Dr Gero who invented these robots, and he took some of Freiza's DNA too.

Also Freiza had only obtained 93 planets in his campaign.

Spirit Bomb is used multiple times throughout the series, and kao-ken is only used by Goku throughout the entire anime.
Is it really that strange for him to use a stronger technique when it becomes available?

Also, the 1000 year rule for Super Sand Lesbians isn't 100% accurate.

The super saiyan they all refer to is in actuality Bardok, Goku's father, who for whatever reason found himself 1000 years in the past after freezy pop destroyed Planet Virgina.

No it isn't strange that they acquire stronger techniques throughout the anime, but it was YOU who objected to the whole 'they are just making up new powers to suit their needs' stuff.
YOU objected to the fact that characters are the strongest in their world until the next bad guy arrives, so don't give me bullshit about why the lore of the show isn't accurate.

so instead of making OneyNG references and trying to divert the subject from your own faulty logic can we just agree either there are some loopholes in your 'shit when' list and/or you made some oversights? If not, we'll be in for the long haul.

I also never said DBZ WASN'T shit.

Also, I used the word "powerless" not "weaker"
Having the hero win with no struggle wouldn't make for a good anime now would it?

Also please note how I word each rule on the list.
I'm against them having to explain new powers each episode like when you watch Yu Gi Oh and each card needs a 3 minutes explanation
I never said nor did I imply I hated people learning new powers.

I'm tempted to say that eventually there will be an entire episode of Yu Gi Oh where a good chunk of the episode is spent just explaining cards so they can duel without exposition.

That reminds me, I watched an entire episode of Yu-gi-oh! at the request of a friend, and since I'm a huge fan of the abridged series, I thought I was ready to handle the real deal. I wasn't.

Bakura was dueling Zombie Boy, who trapped the former and said only one card could possibly get him out of there, which Bakura had. Was that, like, a twist? Are those things frequent? Can they literally just make up cards in their decks as they go along, or do we know what the characters are equipped with beforehand?

I overall prefer the manga, mostly cause it didn't have filler (unfortunately, it didn't have my sweet little Rebecca in it...) and it did some good hints and overall idea of friendship, believing in oneself and others.

Yeah it happens a lot that they have this one card that will win them the duel. But it's the rule of winning... otherwise, the main character would lose every other duel and never make it to the finale and stare at Marik's sexy naked back-I mean... learn of how to find his lost memories...

I actually watched all of the Attack on Titan they had on Netflix
My opinion of the show?

9/10

The times I laughed during the show were actual humorous moments, not just people making a face or overreacting.
The story is original enough
It gives a sense of "mortality" to all the characters, so you never know who's going to die.
The equipment is interesting and the first couple episodes covering their training was a nice touch.

Spoiler: Eren
When the titan ate him I actually told myself "I don't care how they do it, I hope they bring him back"

You can't fool me, Cat, I've read enough of the manga to know they say that kind of crap there too. :kristoph:

The manga is better, at least before it gets to Duel City/Kingdom/whatever it was because at least then it wasn't nothing but card games. Some of the early games and puzzles were kind of clever at times.

And it's not so much having one card win for them, it's being caught in an impossible, no-win situation built up by the opponent over the course of the match with several monsters and traps, then the turn right before they lose, drawing one card that, until that point, nobody had ever seen or heard of before, that somehow completely negates EVERYTHING the opponent had done to build their position up and lets them win instantly.

It's done to be dramatic, but it comes off as more like cheating bullshit.

Yes... Harems are nothing more than beaten to death rehashed generic fanservice but that doesn't mean they don't have useful and strong characters to the nonexistant story, they usually aim for those dark haired and strong karate champion girls with tight asses.

It's just not hard to notice because it's so generic and the pantyshots create false image...

I don't think we are on the same page here. I was asking why you thought Death Note was sexist.
Face your emptiness don't be afraid. The danger is often smaller than your fear.

Characters are nothing more than tools that have no personality/characterization whatsoever, L for example. I don't think I have to mention how Misa and Naomi kept getting the shaft until they died for some nonsense.

That part with Naomi was... Retarded.

I'm not sure what that L comment has to do with sexism... but I don't see how he is without personality/characterization.

A lot of people got the shaft, though, men and women. Remember Raye Penber? Or the fourth Kira? Maybe it just seems sexist because Light didn't exactly go, well, light on females (he didn't go light on males either). A lot of people got screwed by him.

I read that the reason Naomi got shafted was that the writer was kinda writing the story into the wall. They had made Naomi too smart and had to write her out because it was going to advance the plot way too quickly. I hate she got shafted too, but from my understanding, it's more on the part of poor writing rather than sexism.

I can definitely see the sexism claim, though.

Spoiler: DN spoilers
I remember reading a comic on Deviantart a while ago where that goofy cop (Matsuda, was it?) talked about how all the women in the series were either idiots or got used by Light, and the one that didn't, Near said Mello would approach her to make contact with him because she'd be a weaker and easier target than the rest of his group.

Found it.

It certainly doesn't help that in Bakuman (another series done by the same people who did Death Note), the supposedly bright two main characters have a completely serious conversation about how this intelligent girl in their class is actually stupid because being too smart isn't an attractive quality for girls and the girl one of the characters likes (I really wish I could remember names) is smart because she wants to be a voice actress and that's a cute girly dream, and how the really smart girls all instinctively know the best thing for a woman to do is to be a good wife and stay at home and have babies.

I'd almost think it was meant to be funny if they hadn't played the scene totally straight.

Women getting shafted sounds like my type of writing.

One thing I have to say to anyone who does not watch anime because you didn't like 1 or 2 series you tried.
Anime is a medium, not a genre.

also to DoMaya, those tropes you listed are neither good nor bad, but are simply tools to be used in anime, it depends on both the viewers opinion, and how they are executed.

The only anime I know that passes your list is The Boondocks.

The Boondocks is an anime about a black family moving to the white suburbs, but it tackles current events and delivers political messages in a lot of the episodes.
