Yo, I don't know if there already is a topic on this, I searched through most of the movies pages and couldn't find it. If there is...I'm sorry...
ANYWAAAAAYS!
Kay so you all know about AC, right? This would just be a discussion thread like : what characters do you like (mine's Kadaj :edgy: ) or things you think were funny (coughRenocough) or just AC in general.

Personally I thought the film sucked....
Too much Cloud too much angst too many mother issues.

Why couldn't they give the others a bigger role? Thats what I watched it for.

Nah uh, your forgetting Rude has a pocket with limitless shades in it in case one of them breaks I gotta laugh seeing him casually replace it but other than that...nah DOC was better.

Count me in among the haters. And admittedly it only has three salvageable factors: Vincent was pretty fucking kickass in the movie, the clothing was awesome, and Bahamut Sin was cool. Other than that, down the drain it goes.

And thus the haters outweigh the likers in this thread :garyuu:
Yea Vincent was cool...but in my opinion giving him DOC and a bigger role than most characters in AC is his compensation for having such a tiny moment in FF7.

It reeked of incoherency and bad clothing choices. The only good thing that came out of it was that it gave me something to make fun of.

Oh, and Uematsu composed an amazing soundtrack I guess.

hah, I guess I'll be the first of the non-haters. Ok so the plot was a mess and the side-characters were purely fan-service....but even with all that crap I still enjoyed it. I mean, usually I hate films with all style and no substance, but this? This was pure eyecandy. I've never seen such awesome cg animation. Even if just for the fight scenes and music, this movie was not a total bomb. It's a good popcorn movie.

We never said it was a TOTAL bomb....we said it had some moments..

And in my opinion good popcorn movies need more romance.

First off, let's just point out that the title talks not about Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children,

but its less popular sister film, Avent Children.

I really hated all the interplaying dialogue in Avent Children between Hojo and that brick wall. I mean, it never WENT anywhere.

Oh, and the fight scene between Barret and JENOVA-lite? Laaaammme. Barret would NOT just slip on a banana peel like that.

And who was that fag with silver hair that kept on popping up everywhere and looking all angsty? He didn't fit in the movie at all.

What do you guys think?

Hmm maybe I should watch this "Avent Children" see if it's all that bad....but if it's got Barret slipping on Banana's then it's no good. Barret pities the foo who slips on banana's :damon:

Eh, decent movie...although I've only watched it once. When it leaked online, I downloaded it and watched it w/ the subs...when it was finally released here, I eventually bought the DVD, but I've never actually watched the dub version...I don't even think I unsealed the DVD either, haha.

Anyway, the only thing I really liked was the music...the remixed tunes and new pieces were pretty good.

Storywise...meh

When I first watched it, I was surprised to see Tseng alive, cause VII made it sound like he died.

I myself cringed at how little screentime the really awesome gang got, like Vincent, Cid, Yuffie and Red XIII. The lack of balance was absurd, really.

It's an action film, it doesn't need a good plot as long as the action scenes are ass-kicky enough. And what's cooler than swordfights on speeding motorcycles?

Wow, you pretty much got the whole plot of the film in just one sentence!

I'm just glad to see that more agree with me. Last time I stated my opinions on this game, I almost got clubbed to death. By books!!!No, it's NOT a Simpsons reference

It's not an action film. It was a bitching-and-crying-fest with a couple of mediocre action scenes.

In total honesty, the fighting scenes looked good. At least most of them. For some reason, I still think Cloud's Omnislash is WAY cooler back in FFVII. And the fact that Sephiroth "returns" made me lol when I saw it.

I agree with the bitchin-and-crying-fest, though.

.....Swordfights....WITHOUT Cloud....other character fighting...WITHOUT CLOUD.....non-sephiroth rip offs.....NOT IN IT.
Yea...that'd be nice....

In my opinion Arnold Schwartzenegger defined action films and if the plot isn't good enough....it better be funny as hell and this wasn't funny as hell.

I thought it was hella funny! Like when Sephiroth "returns" and Kadaj yelling about some box he calls mother.

Obviously, because Omnislash did NOT make an appearance in Advent Children. What you saw at the end was not Omnislash, but rather a completely new Limit Break inspired in one that appeared in Final Fantasy Tactics (in which Cloud showed up as a secret playable character), named Cherry Blossom.

Post subject:  Re: Avent Children: Final Fantasy VII

I had my issues with the movie too, but I still enjoyed it. As a graduate of a 3D program I can totally appreciate all the fight scenes they did with the amount of detail they put in them. When it came out, the technicalities of the movie were pushing boundaries, but so many new movies and games have surpassed it since then that I think lots of people forgot how much they accomplished doing that.

Here's my breakdown:

Pros:
- Good job of stylizing the models so they're not too anime or too realistic
- For the most part good clothing choices for the cast
- They reduced Tifa's boobs to a believable size. (Sue me, I'm a girl, and I thought her boobs in FF7 were waaaay too exagerrated for her frame)
- The fight scene between Tifa and Loz in the church was kickass (better then a lot of Cloud's fights IMO)
- Vincent has decent screen time (but could have been better)
- Crazy swordfights that blew me away with their defiance of physics
- Making references to limit breaks from the game
- Little details in the background that add some character (Loveless signs, Marlene/Denzel's crayon scribblings of Cloud on the wall, etc.)
-
Spoiler: ending
Aeris and Zack's appearance in the end had a good closure moment

Cons:
- Marlene, Reno, and Rude screen time > Team Avalanche screen time (wtf.)
- No moogles or chocobos. :payne: (that plushie the girl was holding doesn't count)
- Lame method of working Sephiroth into the final battle. (which IMO wasn't really explained)
- I watched the extras on the dvd and they explained Cloud's emoness somewhat and why they made him like that. I could kinda see where they were going with it, but I think it seriously had to beyond "*angstangst*IletAerisdie*angst*"
- "dilly dally shilly shally"????
- Materia wasn't used during the battles (And no excuses about not having any.. Yuffe was holding an ARMLOAD of them). And on that note, since when did materia get absorbed into your arm?
- Mother complex was already overdone in the game, didn't need to be done again

Personally I thought Final Fantasy: Spirit's Within was better visually....when I watched that I spent the first 15 minutes trying to figure out with my brother if it was real actors or not.

I believe I read on wikipedia that it was called Omnislash. I suggested it was called that, even if the two looks NOTHING like each other. In any case, "Cherry blossom" isn't as cool as Omnislash.
