I'd say the Rock Lee "Drunken/Loopy Fist". Booze is bad, but when he takes drugs to enhance his performance it's O.K.? If anyone can top that, post it here.

Convince an entire generation of idiotic anime fans that Japanese voice-overs are inherently better because they're Japanese.

I think the argument they isn't usually that they're Japanese, but because those were the voice actors the directors/producers/whoever picked, so that was the voice that they intended/wanted that character to have. When the dubbing guy thinks that the character should have a different voice, it changes the anime.

So it's that Japanese voice-overs and inherently better because they're in Japanese, which is the original language.

The dub on Hana no ko Lunlun from the late 70's (shown as "Angel" on HBO) was terrible!!! So much crappy 70's/80's-esque dubbing, it's pretty humorous when you think about it.

Some of the Lupin movie dubs from the 80's are pretty terrible too (especially when they had to rename him due to copyright issues). Those were the days

Dragonball Z's frothy mugs of water.

Also the fact that many of the early episodes are spliced together because they wanted to cut out other plot points. Splicing episodes together in general is bad (Sailormoon's finale for the first series was done this way in the dub).

On that point, when any producer decides to cut out episodes that are considered a break from the main arc of the story just to keep the plot moving. I want to see all the episodes, not just the ones they've deemed necessary for us to see.

Terrible voice acting. I understand it takes time for an actor to get used to a voice, but put some thought into who you hire and what the character should sound like. Nothing is worse than a teenage character sounding like an elderly person when that is not the original intent.

Any american dub that has the following: Bosch
First off, he is annoying as a VA. Persona 3 and 4 had the misfortunes of him being the voice of the main character who (although he rarely spoke) was extremely annoying when speaking even if for less than a second.
A lack of work ethic HAS to be the most notorious of diseases infecting the american VAs nowadays. Seriously, what the hell were they thinking with Naruto? I had a tough time withstanding the stupidity of at least 90% of the cast if not 99%. Only good VA was Kyle (who I had spoken with personally), and he is the dude behind Ryu in SF4. Great guy and VA. Also, he did a very good job as Hiro from Shin-chan.
All in all, American VAs have very little to compensate. And a ton of it to compensate FOR. What I'm saying is this:
They could at least put some effort.

Actually, Yuri Lowenthal was Persona 3's main character, and he did the non-PC main male lead in 4. I absolutely loathe him as a VA and his tendency to show up in absolutely everything. For example FF4 - Cecil, .hack G.U. - Haseo, etc. etc.

Still, some of them do make a good effort of it. They're overshadowed by all the fail. And to be fair, the VA directors are complete shit.

Bosch is actually a pretty good actor, he just gets way too much work. I was actually really surprised at how much range he has. His Renton (Eureka Seven) has a really different sounding voice from say, his Kaneda (Akira). He mixes it up a bit too; I didn't really catch him as Rossiu in Gurren Lagann until a friend of mine told me it was him. I like him, but I'm tired of hearing him.

While I like Kyle Hebert, he's not Hiro. Hiro's voice actor is Chuck Huber aka Hiei (Yu Yu Hakusho) and Android 17 (DBZ). As for Hebert, I liked his Kamina in Gurren Lagann. He seemed to be really enthusiastic about it and packed in enough hot blood to make me happy.

As for other English dubs done right, I really like Chris Sabat. He's a guy with a lot of range, and I love how he can do some really off the wall voices. Loved how his Kuwabara sounded like a blathering idiot retard (a good thing) and his Vegeta is just hilarious/awesome.

There's always Steve Blum, who everyone has a boner for. Him doing someone who's the anime definition of manliness like Spike and then being able to play someone as effeminate as Leeron really shows his talent.

I've always been fond of the guy that did Gene Starwind's voice in Outlaw Star too. I can really only recall one other voice where I recognized him (he was a character in Wolf's Rain) but I always thought he sounded really cool.

I just don't like how Bosch always takes the spotlight. Whereas other actors (although some deserve it) don't get crap. I still hate him for giving us US fans a bad rep with the SOS Brigade, and since they came straight from Japan, thanks a bunch, Bosch. Now we have a worse impression than we already do.

first of all (shoots 4kids for there many, many screw-ups)

now then the reason i personally dont like most american dubbing is because the lack of emotion in some of the dialog and secondly replacing what the original anime says...i mean they do that to many anime's because they think ow kids will see this and tune it down when in fact many of these anime arent really ment for them in the first place plus its the fact that any storys dialog can inhance it or destroy it.

now then dont get me wrong there has been some good one in america examples are
full metal alchemist, yu yu hakusho, and ruroni kenshin but hey thats just one mans oppinion :P

I also really hate it when they replace dramatic silence with dialogue or inner monologue. Those silences are supposed to be there for a reason. They are poignant and reflective. They usually end up being filled with something mindless and stupid.

... you mean when they pointlessly dub things? Isn't that what we're discussing already?
Anyways, I'm joking. If anything, I suggest that someone out there quit being a douchebag and get a better cast of VAs because SF4's the only good dubbed US port of anything out there.

I see a difference in pointless changing something from the original and pointlessly adding to it. They are both bad, but there is a slight difference in the reasoning I guess.

I say Robotech. It nice but why couldn't they just gave us the original Macross from the start instead of taking three anime that has nothing to do with each other and fit it into one series? We would probably have all the Macross series over here.

German voiceovers are actually as bad as the American ones, if not even worse.
Everything is censored, cut and badly dubbed - Because they take already cut and censored versions from France or 4kids and continue to cut them EVEN MORE.
And they have a strange emphasis with avoiding anything that just remotely refers to "death", "dying" and related terms.
They edit every kind of blood out and make everybody say stuff like "He's gone" instead of "He's dead"
Story? Continuity? What's that?

The thing that perfectly summarizes is one line from Sailor Moon:
"Du darfst nicht einschlafen!", which means "Please don't sleep!" in a scene where somebody was dying.
I shit you not ...

And the German version of "South Park" is unbelievably bad too.
They add random swear words just for the heck of it, often in lines which don't contain any swears whatsoever.
And they changed Butters' whole personality. In the German version, he uses swear words on a regular basis, is pretty well-informed when it comes to sex stuff and his voice sounds too much out of character.

Also, 1000th post. Wohoo.

Like others have said, Bosch is awesome, he just gets too much work xD

If you watch Adult Swim's anime line-up, then you're probably tired of him. He's good enough that I forget who he is after awhile, though. Hahaha I'm currently playing P4 and I'm getting "Chairman" vibes from Adachi, probably because I watched Code Geass before this.

On the subject of bad voicing (not American though), has anyone ever played the original Biohazard for Playstation (think way back). The very first Japanese release had some of the worse English voice-overs ever; it seemed like they just pulled a few American tourist off the street and had them read the script. Not that is writing itself was bad, but their emotions didn't match the dialogue, it was kinda hard to take the game seriously at times.

*totally dramatic scene in Sailor Moon*
Sailor Moon: *sobbing, tears running all over her face* *purely sad voice*
"Please ... Please don't sleep!!"

... Honestly, who wouldn't either burst out in laughter or cover his face in shame in that moment?

Also, I remember what a pal of mine said when he randomly dubbed a Naruto scene for a TV contest (he is not really familiar with all the episodes, neither am I): "They talked about someone being absent, but since everybody was so totally sad, I just assumed the mentioned person was dead."
