Manga, live-action, anime, movies, OVAs, you name it. I seriously doubt that I'm the only one here who loves Lupin! Not too familiar with Lupin III? Forgetting something? This site has some information!

I'm not sure what else to say, so I suppose I'll go into a few little details about some of my favorite things about Lupin III!

Favorite Protagonist: Zenigata. Zenigata is a character who I find to be extremely interesting. For better or worse, Zenigata seems to be constantly changing in terms of both appearance and personality. Other than some wardrobe changes (His coat goes from orange to brown to tan to grey), his skin color also changes dramatically throughout the series. It goes from being very dark to a bit of a tan to relatively pale. His personality and courses of action are almost as unpredictable as his appearance, him often doing (in my opinion) things that I would never expect. His competence shifts repeatedly throughout the series and he can go from a minor inconvenience for Lupin to a huge stumbling block. Some might call it terrible inconsistency, I'd call it a damn interesting character. Even with all of the changes in looks and behavior, he's still always the same Zenigata!

Favorite Villain: Pycal, also known as Paikaru, Piker, or many other names that are pretty much variations of that. His first appearance is in chapter 7 of the manga. He is well known for shooting fire out of his hand (Later breathing fire) and being shot almost every time he appears. He's also known for rocking the emo hair about 40 years before it was popular. He has approximately four documented expressions: Frowning (Default), "WTF are you doing [in my house]?", "Crazed Smile," and of course hair. In the anime, Pycal appears in episode 2 of season 1 ("The Man they Called a Magician") and seems quite a bit less sinister than in the manga. While the anime sticks to the basic story of the manga, it does manage to leave out quite a few little details that the manga includes.

Pycal makes a second animated appearance in the OVA "The Return of the Magician" which wasn't really all that good itself, but damn did he ever look good in it. I'm not sure if he appears in the third season (Pink jacket) of the anime or later in the manga since I've never seen them, unfortunately.

The latest Lupin release, to the best of my knowledge, was another annual Lupin special: Seven Days' Rhapsody. I haven't seen it yet, but Zenigata makes just about the cutest face ever in it. There is also an upcoming Lupin game (I'm not sure what system it'll be for) that's shaping up to look quite nice.

On the US front, recently a company began to release "Movie Packs." There are two of these in circulation right now, and they're a steal at about $28 for five Lupin movies - To emphasize how good of a deal this is, I bought "Strange Psychokinetic Strategy" for the same price! (It was totally worth it, though.)

Ah, if there was ever a series that deserves more credit than it recieves, it's Lupin III. From the fantastic characters of the main cast to the outrageous adventures they end up in, it's really great.

I haven't seen much of the Pink Jacket series myself, though I have some of the DVDs for the Red Jacket era, and the first ten-or-so volumes of the first manga series sitting on my shelf, and even more fan-translated ones on my hard drive.... somewhere. I also have quite a few of the movies and TV specials on DVD too, though some of the earlier ones aren't in the best of condition from overuse.

oh man!!! i love this show so much!!! i really miss it though. wish it would come back on!!! i gotta say that zenigata (that is the guy who chases lupin around right, cant remember all their names) was my fave! always coming so close to foiling lupin's plans, but messing up in some way or another.

and here is a random factoid from me. i dont know if any of you guys have heard of this, but when i read the book Les Miserables a year ago in twelth grade, for some reason, I always pictured the cop, named Javert i think, as Zenigata chasing down the protaginist of the story. lol. boy my mind can wander....

I've only really watched one and a half Lupin movies. The one movie was the incredibly excellent Castle of Cagliostro, and the half was something to do with clones that I didn't understand much of.

I remember watching CoC when I was really young, and the villain's final scene at the clocktower gave me nightmares. (I'm an impressionable person, then and now.) I also don't remember much of it, except that it was awesome and I kept thinking that there had to be more to the story than this, considering how the swordsman and the gunner didn't really do much (I think).

There's also the infamous scene parodied in countless other anime where their tiny little car (I'd like to say that it's a VW, but I could be wrong) drives right up the side of a wall. It's like a giant middle finger to the laws of physics.

The movie about clones was probably Secret of Mamo.

I really, really don't like Secret of Mamo, but a lot of people are crazy over it.

I love lupin the third! It's one of my favorite series. I own all of the movies that have been released in America except one. I love old series. As for lupin not getting credit well I think it's the only old anime that gets credit in America. Poor Kinnikuman and Ashita No joe. My favorite character would have to be Jigen.

Lupin III is a hit-or-miss with me. Some movies and specials are simply awesome (Castle of Cagliostro, First Contact), while others are just boring like hell.

I prefer his grandpa over Lupin III, Arsène Lupin is (sans maybe Arsène Lupin contre Sherlock Holmes) always entertaining =D

I've only ever seen Castle of Cagliostro. I loved it, personally, and I've been trying to find more (like Fujiko's Unlucky Days, directed by Nabeshin) but I can't seem to find it - except for one that is in Japanese with Italian subtitles.

I always thought Castle of Cagliostro was good, but never really thought of it as a 'Lupin' movie. I know it has all the characters, but it never felt to have the same tone or design as the rest of the series--most notably due to Miyazaki's involvement.

I agree with kenji I don't consider it to be part of the lupin universe at all. Mostly because Miyazaki really likes good guys and is a feminist (not that that's a bad thing) it's just lupin is supposed to be a womanizer and jigen supposed to not care about anything but they seemed like knights in shining armor in that movie.

I agree with that totally. I've known a lot of people who got pulled into Lupin by Cagliostro, but are turned off by the fact that the series and the other films aren't as lighthearted/cute/romantic and aren't as Miyazaki. I've known countless fans who only watched Cagliostro because Miyazaki's name was on it - When I bought my copy of it, I noticed that the sleeve made a point to put in big letters that "OMG GUYS YOU KNOW THAT GUY MIYAZAKI WHO DID HOWL'S MOVING CASTLE AND SPIRITED AWAY AND YOU ALL LOVED IT!? WELL HE DID THIS MOVIE TOO OMG" Then you get back into the anime, then even further over to the manga and it's like "this is nothing like Cagliostro :|"

Double H, there are a few of the movies/specials that I'd consider worth watching, although a lot of them are mediocre at best.

Dead or Alive and Episode 0 ("First Contact") are some of the best you can get, I think. I'm also personally fond of Hemingway Papers, and I know that a lot of people really love Tokyo Crisis (I've never seen it.). Zantetsu is on Fire (Which I believe is also called Dragon of Doom - I hope they're not separate.) is also, I think, pretty good although I've never seen all of it in English, only Italian.

Strange Psychokinetic Strategy (The live action movie) is great if you want to watch something that is basically a genuinely 70's Japanese Austin Powers. :p

I FINALLY got to see Tokyo Crisis!

It was pretty good. I thought that the villain was a little dull, but he was plenty evil in a classic Lupin kind of way. The usual Bond-style "Lupin Girl" was in this case with Zenigata through the whole thing, and it felt like she actually had more of a purpose than needing to be rescued and having Lupin hit on her.

The movie was very Zenigata centric, and rightfully so considering the movie kicks off with his theme song playing in the background. In fact, different renditions of his theme song play though most of the movie. Tokyo Crisis focuses primarily on the relationship between Zenigata and a reporter that is following him around, Maria, who repeatedly takes embarrassing photos of him.

Jigen and Goemon have a very cute role in the movie, as well. I won't give it away, but it's cuuuute. Especially when you stick around for the credits.

I've only watched the subtitled Japanese version, although I did check out the dub briefly. Sounds like Funi dubbed it, because in their dubs they always pronounce Jigen's name as "Jiggin'." Haven't heard too many hilarious accents like the ones in Dead or Alive though.
