I think FKMT is something that Ace Attorney fans would enjoy a lot, so I figured that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a thread about it. Nobuyuki Fukumoto is a manga artist/author famous for making unpredictable seinen mangas that revolve around gambling, the human mind and yakuza... Actually, he's probably more famous for his "pointy" art style. This is what Phoenix would look like in FKMT style:

I think his best works are Ten, Kaiji (especially part 2) and Legend of the Strongest Man Kurosawa.

Any other fans of this mangaka on CR? I know at least some of you have watched Akagi...

I knew about this artist for a while due to seeing fanart of his work on DeviantArt a while back, but not really knowing what it was until I did some digging around. And after reading up on his works I decided to check out the anime and manga for Kaiji first since the second season is airing right now in Japan.

So far, I really like it. The writing style that Fukumoto uses is quite good, very suspenseful and tense, and depressing and even gruesome at times. The art style is a bit off putting to some, but I guess that doesn't stop the many female fans from liking the characters. Kaiji himself, he's like one of the most sensitive seinen characters I've ever seen. But I'd cry too if I was in his shoes.

Kaiji gets pretty bad around where the anime is right now and just declines.

Kurosawa is his best manga. It's really whole and you build a lot of emotional investment with its lead character, the ending simply being superb.

Having read series 2 before, I respectfully disagree. I found it mind-blowing. Though it did drag on a bit and...

Spoiler: Ending spoilers
that twist with the bogus contract was pretty obvious. Not to mention uncalled for. Nowhere near as cruel as Andou's betrayal or Sahara's death in series 1, but you'd think the loan shark would be a little bit more grateful to the guy who just saved his life. I realize that betrayal is a recurring theme in the series, but... come on, it was supposed to be a happy ending! Kaiji deserved a break after going through all that shit.

What's your opinion on series 3? I find it entertaining so far, but I can't take the new antagonist (Muraoka?) seriously. Nice seeing the 45'ers back though. I have actually played mahjong with real people once and I vaguely know the basic rules but I can't keep track on all the tiles.

Regarding Kurosawa, yeah, it's a perfect combination of comedy and tragedy. I'd say that Ten has the best ending. Buraiden Gai was pretty good, so were Zero (the sequel seems weird though) and Confession.
