Anyway, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt is the latest anime/manga series from Gainax. It stars two angel sisters, Panty and Stocking(real names), who have been banished from Heaven for their rude behavior and sent to Daten City(which is also clever Japanese wordplay for "Fallen Angel"). Their are guided by a black priest with a huge afro, Garterbelt, in their quest to rid Daten City from evil spirits called "Ghosts" and collect Heaven Coins that drop after defeating one.
Panty, the older sister, is completely sex-driven and a proud whore. Her weapon of choice is her panties, which she takes off and turn into various types of guns. She isn't limited to her own pair, either.
Stocking, the younger sister, has a goth lolita fashion style who has an unhealthy addiction to sweets and desserts. She can never understand and also loathes Panty's continuous lust for guys, while the feeling is also mutual for Panty and her sister's lust for sweets. Her weapon of choice is her stockings, which she takes off and turn into katana. She usually takes off one of them, though she can take both off and dual-wield.
They also have a pet named Chuck, who is most likely a parody of Gir from Invader Zim.
The visual style and pacing of the show is heavily influenced on American cartoons(mainly from Cartoon Network) such as Dexter's Lab and Powerpuff Girls. Each show is split into two 10-minute shorts, again similar to how most American cartoons are run. The entire show is a slew of sex and poop jokes(the first episode is basically one ten-minute poop joke), and is only held back by censors. They even cover the whole Catholic child molesting thing that most Japanese people probably wouldn't know about. The two main characters have rotten personalities and swear like sailors, sometimes even in English. Unlike most American cartoons however, the animation quality is top-notch. The first episode is filled with action that you'd probably only see in the Powerpuff Girls movie(or a pretty high-budget TV anime).
The overall reaction to this show is indefinitely split. Many people hate it because of the cartoon-influenced visual style, while others hate it because of its non-stop dirty jokes. Many others enjoy it for those exact reasons. One thing is for certain though; be sure to stick around for episode 6 because that's when the show REALLY takes off.

I think in terms of episodes the 5th has probably been my favourite so far, if just for how completely detached it was from the rest of the series in both tone and artstyle.

Actually, you don't see too many gay catholic jokes in Japan. Based on the comments I've seen in Niconico, they just think Garterbelt is gay and that's it.
A lot of the comedy in the show is influenced by in-your-face western humor. They may be extremely base, but the creators knew what type of show they wanted to make. In a country where super-cute moe anime dominates the otaku community, you can tell they were trying pretty hard to make something that goes against it.
The reactions have obviously been split as mentioned, but unexpectedly a lot more guys hate the show than girls. Apparently during a Panty&Stocking gathering in Japan, there were a lot more women who showed up than guys, which is a shock considering how the show was heavily geared towards men and featured in male otaku magazines.

You can find torrents, or on stream sites like Youtube or Crunchyroll. I hear Gainax actually gives inputs on the subtitles for the Crunchyroll version, like how they should translate certain things. There's also niconico, where they upload full episodes but some of them require a small fee.

They are always good to shock you with surprising stuff 
It's really something different from main stream anime but fits in Gainax profile. I like it but some of the rotten language jokes I guess I didn't really understand...but I like all those hints and parodies to other series/things 
It's really worth watching

The latter, mostly. The show doesn't have too many Japanisms that may get lost in translation, so it's probably just how the Japanese wish certain expressions to be translated to.
Anyway, the show definitely does get better with Episode 6 beyond. Here is a little preview of Episode 7.1:

I never thought I'd be able to say that I saw two animated beings, one a demon and the other a black priest with an afro, have a BDSM fight whilst two angels fired a gun made of underwear towards heaven, calling down the massive legs of a lingerie model which crushed the city. But I did. And it was awesome.

The toilet humor threw me off at first, but I fell in love with this series mostly for the artstyle, characters and music. I now listen to the OST on a daily basis :D
It's probably one of the first anime series in a long time to make me really laugh out loud too. And DAT BRIEF
There's rumors that a second series may be happening. That or GAINAX trolls are at it again, especially after watching the OVA.
