It's an accident of course. It happens all the time on.

Anyways, Haruhi Suzumiya is quite a good series. Not sure what else to say on that note, although, it is beginning to grow overrated by FFVII proportions. Yuusaku

I'm REALLY pleased by the dub. It premiered at Sakuracon and I was very impressed by how well it was done. The trailers don't show how suited the voices are. And their speech patterns are SO funny. It's really great.

The only thing I found annoying was that for the episode previews it just has Yuki saying the next episode. It doesn't have the whole "On episode one..." "Wrong! On episode two..."

Dude, I love that show. The only thing is I watched it at school and our school blocked youtube due to the fact the school blocking thing blocks anything that has videos.

They were also part of what made the show unique, and the key to watching the show in 'true order.' Shit like this reeks of people who can't figure out the subtle hint that the show is out of chronological order; but what do you expect from a dub.

I don't remember exactly what they were saying at the questioning exactly, but I believe they said the "next episode" things will be featured on the DVD as extras, subtitled.

I don't know WHY they did it like that. It's really lame. :/

And I think the second DVD will have the full-length Hare Hare Yukai dance, in case anyone was wondering.

I'm buying this so I can show it to my mom. I'm sure she'll love it, but the subtitles might prove tiresome for her.

It's a good show, and the dub looks to be promising, though that's mostly a wait-and-see thing. Preview issues aside, I've heard mostly good things about it so far.

It's precisely what worries me. It sounds like yet another standard anime given a Memento-like twist in order to seem culturally relevant.

The "regular" DVDs will have the episodes in chronological order. Since there's no point to have Kyon and Haruhi argue over it then, they had Yuki just state the next episode. This was also done on the R2 Japanese DVDs.

The "special edition" DVDs will cost twice as much because each one will have two DVDs: one in chronological order, and one in Kyonological order. The Kyonological order one has the usual Kyon-and-Haruhi arguments.

The reason they had to do this is because of contractual obligations from Japan: apparently Bandai had to jump through several hoops before Kadokawa would even consider letting them release the DVDs with Kyonological order episodes, and this was the best compromise. (The alternative was no Kyonological release at all.)

So if you want to blame anyone, blame the Japanese companies. The US companies had nothing to do with it, and indeed tried to work around it. There is no Kyonological order release at all on R2.

Although in every case, "The Adventures of Asahina Mikuru Episode 00" is still the first released episode.

Actually, the reason for the chronological messup was because Kyoto Animation (the producers) wanted to end the series on a bang, and if they followed the original chronological order, the result would be a high point in the middle of the series, followed by half a season of filler. So they rearranged the episodes (with the blessing and input of the original creator Tanigawa Nagaru) to put the "middle" of the series (which is the end of the first story arc) at the end.

(Random trivia: in the original light novels which the anime is based, the narrative also kind of jumps around in time. The story arcs in volumes one, two, four, seven, and nine are chronologically standard, but the short stories in the other volumes are more like the narrator reminiscing about various events as they come to mind, rather than with any actual planning based on What Came First.)

Now, I obviously think that the anime itself is awesome, but then it's like every other fandom: you like it, or you don't. The odd episode ordering, in my opinion, is not one of the major points about the series.

I've pre-ordered the first box set from Amazon, It'll arrive on about the ~8th(?) of June, so I'll watch it as a very late Birthday present to myself.

I've seen it on Youtube of course, but I just don't feel right unless I actually purchase the disks.

I'm buying the Special Edition DVDs because I believe that the show is awesome enough to want to support it on its own (or at least show companies that yes, shows like these are good to licence), and I'm weird in that since I kept mentioning on forums that I'd buy the DVDs if they had lots of extra special stuff (and they do), then I should probably follow through on that.

I just watched all 14 episodes today straight.

I thought it was a good series, a bit confusing at times (not because of the episode order but just the plot in general), but overall good. It didn't think it was as amazing as everyone says it was but I liked it.
I didn't like the last episode though. I mean the real ending when you put the episodes in order.
I'd go for a second season.

I don't think anyone is going to come check your library. (I could be wrong.)

I buy on occasion, but only when I know the release itself is decent; I love Bo-bobo, but Illumitoon's fuck up with the DVDs made me shy away; now supposedly they're fixing it, but I probably still won't buy it.

Now, I thought the reason the series was shown completely out of order was because of Haruhi's supposed powers.

I like the dance at the end. Gotta love guys secure in their masculinity to do that girly dance.

And does Crispin Freeman seriously have to be in every show imaginable? It's bad enough you're the voice for Alucard's dad, but come on! Do you have to BE every character there is?

I'm pretty sure Crispin Freeman and Steve Blum have signed an agreement to be in every show ever. I like both of them, though, so I don't really have a problem with it.

Thank god there IS gonna be a second season. I loved the first season so much. I'm thinking of reading the novel series, because the anime doesn't hit everything that was in the novel...

Plus, I will completely and utterly IGNORE the English version. I've come to learn that translations to English are the BANE of anime.

I don't have enough money right now to get the DVD... I think I might wait until all four are out, then get the regular DVDs rather than the special edition. Then I can watch them in the original order (which is, I'm told, the best way to do it) without spending too much money.

In the Haruhi novels the story gets much better later on. They just need to animate those parts.

May god help you if someone who isn't a tenth as lazy as I am decides to respond to that question.

Because the initial statement was "best anime ever IMO", that means there are no boundaries and any and all animes that are 'better' than Haruhi Suzumiya can be named.

Thus, a list of 100 minimum may or may not be produced.

Visually, it's pretty average. The story looks interesting (if not overly conveluted), so I might look into it.

But... The whole 'shoddyness' they put into it might persuade me otherwise. Innovative of not, if the transitions look like crap, it's not worth it.

Either way, in my opinion it's far from the best anime ever.

The series does tend to throw viewers off assuming that those viewers seek a fixed sequence of events.

I think the creators executed that part very well in terms of shifting any and all focus towards Suzumiya and the S.O.S. brigade. The convoluted plot forces any audience to think twice on what is being adressed, and then they realize that the only thing that hasn't been thrown into any kind of chaos is Suzumiya herself (which becomes explained in the final episode).

I will admit that I had to watch the whole series three times to fully absorb any details and gain some understanding. I think the anime is the polar opposite of Death Note's plot execution. Instead of feeding the audience with mind games brought by character perspectives, Melancholy of Suzumiya puts the viewer into a mind game on trying to figure out what is truly being emphasized.

Humor: +8 (especially with the Phoenix Wright parody)
