I always got the impression that GL was the type of thing people went "LOL ANIME" over.
Is this any worth watching, and why? Help a lazy thinker out.

Good to hear it...? >_> Overall.... I'd give it a 9.7/10. Easily one of the best anime I've ever watched, and everything from 11 onwards rocked face, but the beginning was a bit too slow and took a while for me to get into it (Kamina in particular... he was half awesome, but half kind of annoying, and while he was cool, I didn't OMG LOVE him like other people seem to) Five favorite moments in the series (no particular order except #1): -Simon stabbing Lord Genome in the chest with the Drill Key -"What's wrong little mole pig? You want to come in?" *BUUUUU!!!* -The entire "Awakening" scene... so many awesome moments. Kamina+Yoko+TV, Kamina and Simon having a final chat, and VIRAL'S FAMILY D: -Kamina's final Giga Drill Breaker And the #1: -"KING.... KITTAN....... GIGA.... DRILL..... BREAAAKKKKKAAAAAAAAAAA" Seriously, that entire sequence was fucking AMAZING. From the final conversation between Yoko and Kittan (and the way they'd set up the situation/the relationship between those two beforehand... and hell, through all of the series, when Kittan is constantly overshadowed by Kamina and then Simon) to his final charge. Good god that was AMAZING. Top five characters: 5.) Kamina 4.) Dayakka/Leeron (tie) 3.) Yoko/Viral (tie 2.) Simon 1.) Kittan |

I think Kittan was also my favorite character. At first I actually found him to be obnoxious, but ... he just really grew on you. |

Yeah, he did. He always seemed a bit more... human than Simon and Kamina. And how at the end there, he was actually able to admit that he WAS scared... but it didn't matter. He did what had to be done--and he actually surpassed Kamina doing it. He literally did the impossible through sheer force of will alone. I think that post-timeskip is when Kittan really starts to hit his stride. Oh man, the scene where he's playing with Anne and being all "Your uncle is going to the edge of the Universe! He'll have some great stories to tell you!" (before they leave for the final battle) makes me go D: now. |

well, I haven't really singled out a favorite character, but Kittan isn't mine. Took far too long to get great. The best death in the show and some coolness after the timeskip isn't enough to save him from the stuff beforehand. He is awesome, though. I think Simon would probably be my favorite, I guess. Also, the dream sequence was the best moment in the whole series. Kittan's death was also really fantastic, but I still don't even know if I would place it at number 2. Let me think here.... My favorite parts, in chronological order: -GARlock -Breaking through the surface for the first time - the first GATTAI -Kamina's death -last five minutes or so of the Yoko flashback episode -The entire Arc-Gurren episode -Leaving earth to head into deep space -Kittan's death #1-Alternate universe sequence -breaking the spiral gauge -Wedding and the epilogue |

I've been losing interest in anime lately because nothing really tickled my fancy, but Gurren Lagann reminded me of how great anime can be. But for reasons totally different from why I liked anime in the first place. It sounds extremely corny, but...it felt like it said "this is how a man should be." Kamina and Kittan sort of remind me of Captain Bravo from Buso Renkin. |

Ignore all the people who post in ALLCAPS SAYING OMG SO MANLY AND GAR IT'S THE BEST THING EVER EPIC EPIC EPIC, the fanbase is easily the worst part of Gurren Lagann. The show is basically Gainax taking Evangelion, removing all of the depressive stuff with a punch to the face, adding the giant robots from Gunbuster and Diebuster and a degree of the quirkyness from FLCL. Huge robots, drills, inspiring speeches, drills, epic fights (I hate to use epic to describe stuff cause it's overuesed, but I'm using the literal meaning of the word here), drills, really really mindbogglingly huge robots, drills, Gainax doing their usual schtick of trying to go even more over the top in each and every episode and drills. It's a fun show and, even if the people who speak about in the aformentioned allcaps are annoying, it does have some really awesome moments, especially once it really gets going in episode 8. Also drills. |

... i resolve not to read through this thread until i actually get around to watching/reading this awesome-sounding series... for the last six months, i see it mentioned everywhere, and after reading the first chp, i am quite intrigued (it was a bit slow, to be honest, but i've heard other parts of the story  ).though, i will ask - have most people here just watched the anime? |
