I loved the quality of animation (plus the actual style of the film- something about the lack of shading really worked) and the main theme for TokiKaSho is just beautiful, too.
Paprika versus TokiKaSho is still a big toughie for me. Both are just so...strong that it's hard to choose <3

The original book was in fact adapted to several live action mini-series/movies. D; There's no animated version.
So technically the anime we know of, is more so not really an adaption, but an own interpreted original story wanting to continue the plot of the book, of which the author saw and said he liked it.

The original book and its subsequent LAs were not remotely as good as the 2007 film, I must advise.
