Ah Disney.... I'm sure like myself, we've all been brought up on Disney since the time we were born. Their movies never fail to captivate me, the memorable songs, the characters, everything about them just seemed so...epic. They just had that certain charm. That so called "Disney Magic".

Now I'm not talking about movies such as Home on the Range or Chicken Little, or straight-to-DVD sequels such as Bambi II or Cinderella III (twitch), I'm talking about the timeless classics that will forever have a place in our hearts, such as Snow White, The Lion King, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin, etc.

So...let's discuss Disney! What are your favorite movies? Why do you love them? :phoenix:

My personal favorites were Pocahontas, The Lion King, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Mulan.
Just the music...the animation.... Disney will always hold a special place in my heart.

List of animated movies that are NOT Disney
-Anastasia
-Balto
-The Iron Giant
-All Dogs Go To Heaven
-A Troll in Central Park
-Once Upon a Forest
-An American Tail
-Ferngully
-Prince of Egypt
-The Road to El Dorado
-The Land Before Time
- The Quest for Camelot
- The Swan Princess
-Titan AE
-Thumbelina
-Rock-a-Doodle
-The Pebble and the Penguin

Though they are awesome in their own ways, they are NOT Disney films.

Uhhhhhhmm.... When I was younger I really liked The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Beauty and the Beast is always cool. I also like Pinnochio but after rewatching it recently I realized it's really freaking dark for a movie I loved when I was a kid.

It's funny, the Hunchback of Notre Dame wasn't my favorite when I was a kid. It wasn't until I was older that I understood the deeper meanings behind it. Hunchback has to be the darkest animated Disney movie up to date.

Pinnochio scared me when I was a kid. It was always the part when the kids turned into donkeys that would give me nightmares XD

Let's see...The Lion King is my absolute favorite by far. I also like Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Mulan, and The Emperor's New Groove (not really a classic, but still good).

Ah I loved the Emperor's New Groove! Even though it's not as epic as other Disney films, but I found it to be hilarious. XD I even loved the sequel and I hate Disney sequels.

What I liked back then:
Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King

What I like now:
The Little Mermaid, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Little Mermaid is, in a way, what kicked off the modern era of American animated films. Compared to their earlier productions, they took the style (visual and musical) in a whole new direction and set the trend for musical children's films for the end of the 20th century. While this has spawned quite a few copycats and put some deadweight on the animated movie market here in the West, I feel that, until recently at least, Disney had produced great works in this medium.
It's a damn good thing Steve Jobs forced Disney to reinstitute its 2D animation studios - if I have to deal with one more CG-animated comedyfest I AM GOING TO SCREAM. (All due respects to Vanguard, though)

It's wierd but when I was a kid, I watches disney's princess movies most of the time. Snow White, Sleeping Beauty...etc.
Come to think of it, Sleeping Beauty's not too bad as well. ~

I'm a bit miffed at Disney's penchant for taking good fairy tales and adding their own spins to them. Regardless of that fact, I would have to say...

-The Emperor's New Groove
-The Lion King
-Toy Story
-Monsters, Inc.
-Aladdin
-The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-Mulan
-Lilo & Stitch
-Hercules
-Beauty and the Beast
-A Bug's Life

The Lion King, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame (though I didn't care for it until I got older and understood it), Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan (gotta love the tree surfing), Hercules, and the Little Mermaid! (My first cartoon crush, Ariel was on there. I used to hate Eric so much! Wish he would have drowned when he had the chance!)

Dude, the sequels always suck. Mostly because of the fact they have nothing to do with the original story. I know movies like The Little Mermaid and The Hunchback of Notre Dame aren't carbon copies of the stories they've orginated from, but they were adaptions of the story itself. The sequels are just made up stories based off the original movies just for profit. I mean c'mon...you can't have a sequel where the wicked stepmother goes and turns back time!

The only Disney sequels I actually liked were the Lion King II and Pocahontas II. At least the Pocahontas sequel was actually canon. And the Lion King's sequel had music from the Broadway show. And the Aladdin sequels were pretty good.

Mulan's another great one. Lately, two great movies I've been rediscovering are Tarzan and A Goofy Movie. (Seriously. A Goofy Movie has some GREAT songs)

And I adore Mulan, The Aristocats, The Emperers New Groove, Robin Hood, Little Mermaid, Fantasia & Tarzan as well.
I just love Disney Movies...at least, I love the classic ones...they seem to have lost their way of late. But, despite my best efforts, I STILL haven't seen Aladdin. ;_;
Ooh, can we have Pixar movies as well? Because I love all of them, 'cept Cars & The Incredibles. They weren't that good....

When it comes to Disney, I go all like :maya: at times, a bit childlike. Am I too old? ;)
I recently saw Pinocchio, Snow White (never seen!) and just saw Dumbo on DVD, and all of them are classic Disney. I defy anyone not to get misty during the "Baby Mine" sequence *cries*. And the Pink Elephants scene is disturbing.
Pinocchio was great too, also disturbing in places.
The music in The Lion King works so well. The Little Mermaid was one of the first films I can remember in the cinema, and I also loved Beauty and the Beast. Both had some GREAT songs.

Kingdom Hearts much? Anyway forget that overrated game for now.

Myself I used to watch loads as a child but I can't remember how good they were. So I can only say about the ones I've seen recently the Lion King and the Nightmare Before Christmas (in 3D). So those are my two favorites. =]

The Lion King, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, The Nightmare Before Christmas....

I think I grew up during the "golden age" of Disney movies, and thank God that I did. Today... well, the Pixar stuff is excellent, but I don't really consider them "Disney movies." They're someone else's collection of movies with the name "Disney" slapped on them. The movies Disney is churning out today feel so subpar to me; nevermind the dozens of needless sequels that they've forced into the market for the sake of an extra buck.

Anyway, my favorite Disney movie of all time is The Lion King. My favorite Pixar movie is probably The Incredibles, but they're all awesome.

Dude, you've just revived a part of my childhood. I love you!

Now that I think about it...wasn't The Ducktales Movie produced by Disney? If so, <3 that.

EDIT: Ack! My list in need of updatage.

-The Emperor's New Groove
-The Lion King
-Toy Story
-Monsters, Inc.
-Aladdin
-The Hunchback of Notre Dame
-Mulan
-Lilo & Stitch
-Hercules
-Beauty and the Beast
-A Bug's Life
-James and the Giant Peach
-Mighty Joe Young
-The Rescuers Down Under
-101 Dalmations (animated version)
-The Fox and the Hound
-Ducktales The Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp
-Iron Will
-A Goofy Movie

My old baby-sitter owns every Disney movie in existence. One of the reasons why I love so many Disney movies.

What bothers me, though, is that almost every animated Disney movie in existence is a musical of sorts. After a while it gets a bit...stale and cliche, like you just know when they're going to break out into song.

Despite how cliche having a musical moment(s) is, they have been proven to be very popluar with both younger and older members of the audience. The children get a break from what could be a monotone pacing from a film while parents get a something they might enjoy even if they don't like the movie is about. Plus, Music in a animation has been a tradition since the days of the first Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny cartoons.

Basically, It's a case of "If it not's broken, don't fix it." in action. And it must work if they still do over 70 years when they really started using music in cartoon in 1930s. :garyuu:

But that's what makes them so cherishable!
You don't see that in many Disney movies as of late :sadshoe:

None of Pixar's movies ever had them break out in song, Lilo and Stitch never broke out in song..I think, etc.

The musical sequences are what makes them entertaining. In fact, the best songs in animation tell the story better than spoken words can. Songs provide a very concentrated way of telling a story. Consider the opening of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which introduces to you most of the characters and tells the story of how Quasimodo ended up as the bell tower of the church. And that's all done in a 5 minute song. If you tried to explain that in dialogue the audience would probably fall asleep. But the song helps get the info across in a very entertaining and exciting way.

In Disney movies, there's always a song that serves a specific purpose.
-There's the Anthem song that states the theme of the film such as "Colors of the Wind"(Pocahontas), "Circle of Life"(Lion King) and "When You Wish Upon a Star"(Pinocchio).
-The Love song like "You'll Be In My Heart"(Tarzan) or "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?"(The Lion King)
-The "I Want" song which is sung by a character who is on a quest for something in his or her life. Like "Part of Your World"(The Little Mermaid) or "Out There"(THOND)
-The Villian's song, which is sung by...well...the villian. Like "Be Prepared"(Lion King), "Poor Unfortunate Souls"(The Little Mermaid), "Oogie Boogie's Song"(TNBC)
-And finally there's just the song for pure entertainment like "Be Our Guest"(Beauty and the Beast), "A Friend Like Me"(Aladdin). It allows the animator to break out and do what animation does best: entertain.
