Out of curiosity, was anyone else a fan of the Geo-friendly super hero show? I remember being sickly addicted to watching it.

I remember watching it as a kid, and actually learning more about the environment from that show than I did from school for several years. I saw it again a few years ago and saw just how impossible a group like that would be in reality without any hint of racial tension between them at all. >_>;

That didn't stop it from being a great show at the time, though I don't know if a series like Captain Planet would be as good today as it was then.

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

He's our powers magnified
And he's fighting on the planet's side

Captain Planet, he's our hero
Gonna take pollution down to zero

Gonna help him put asunder
Bad guys who like to loot and plunder

"You'll pay for this Captain Planet!"

We're the Planeteers
You can be one too
'Cause saving our planet is the thing to do!

Looting and polluting is not the way
Hear what Captain Planet has to say!

"The Power is Yours!"

I really did not like that show. xD; I don't think I ever watched it; I'm pretty sure that Captain Planet scared me as a kid. But my sister LOVED it. It was her favorite show for awhile.

The show scared me. e.e; But we talked about it in school once. A friend said "it's the kind of show you watch when you're stoned. Like Powerpuff Girls."

And that kid was always stoned. XD

He was this evil clone of Captain Planet (with the colors inverted) who had pollution-based powers. The villains even had their own rings to call him with, as I recall.

The rings were like the opposites of the regular rings, and it was something like:

Deforestation!
Radiation!
Smog!
Toxics!
Hate!

And of course, "By your powers combined, I'm Captain Pollution!", or something like that.

Anyway, I liked the show... a bit, although I did have some problems with it, along with others.
One, why the hell did those villians do it Gregory ? It's never told their motive or purpose, it almost seems like they do it with no purpose at all.
Matt (as random villian) : Hey kids, let's go throw some radiation in the river. Why? Who cares? I just want to do it!
---
Second, Captain Planet was used if they had a problem, acting as a deus ex machina. Imagine the children actually trying to pull it off.
Pearl : Oh no, my cat fell down the well! Captain Planet, save him!
*later*
Pearl : ...
Pearly : WAAAAAH!

I'm coming off so negative...

My favorite character on the show was Wheeler. probably because i thought the power of fire would be cool to control. unlike the sucky power of heart. glad i couldnt get anywhere near matches or i might have wound up as a pyromaniac. and i thought mother gaia was just kind of meh.

As far as I could tell, it was something like a long-distance telepathy/empathy... power... thing... yeah, I don't know either.

I loved the show when I was a kid, largely because it was all superheroic and such. When I watched it more recently, I realized just how, well, campy it got at times. Captain Planet cracked puns like nothing else except other classic superheroes, possibly Golden Age and such. (I'm not really a superhero comics fan.)

Also, it never really occurred to me how often the team had to explain things to Wheeler. I'm not sure if this was driven by some sort of political correctness or just because it's Wheeler. (The show was still definitely geared towards the US audience, with all the "write to your Congressman" advice they gave in the episode-end Planeteer Alert or whatever it was called.)

The show presented all the problems in a really simplistic manner, and emphasised the use of future tech a bit much, when practical applications would probably be a tad more complicated. And I do agree with the complaint that they called upon Captain Planet a bit too often to take care of relatively mundane problems; one episode I remember had them summon him in order to talk to various high school students about AIDS.

Also, the monkey annoyed me a lot more than it should have.

Captain Planet is one of my earliest, if not fondest memorey of fandom. Before Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z, my entire TV watchage consisted of no more than Captain Planet, Scooby-Doo, and Jaberjaw, and god did it show. It sounds corny, but I'm probably a better person for watching it.

I'm a planeteer.

Heart was the only ring with multiple powers not based on an element. Its main power was Empathy, but it also had telepathy and a bit of mind-control in there, too. It's potentially the most powerful ring of them all, since technically the wearer could control the other four ring-wearers if they wished to do so. Of course, with the corny, stereotype heroes, that never happened. >_>;

"Heart" was the kid's version of the closing scene in the move The Fifth Element. So instead of making out in a stasis tube, we had empathy.

I hated it that the kids were useless after Captain Planet was formed on a show that advocated the power being yours.

TTG we have to buy a megadrive NOWZ! I loved captain planet my favorite was also wheeler but I think that was because I thought he was "cool". One time when I was a kid I picked up some random litter and my mom was like "put that down that's dirty!" but I was like "Captain planet says to help the Earth!"
