So, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai just recently started up. Thoughts on it?

So far, I have to say, it's outstanding. The quality of not only the animation, but the storytelling, has really risen up, and the first two episodes of the first arc were actually.. really, really funny. I laughed quite a bit.

Who else is watching it?

I am, an I think its going to be better than the first season.

I hear that some people don't like it because "theres less gore", which is stupid.

Higurashi isn't about gore =3= Screw them.

EDIT: Wow, just watched the fifth episode. That was.. well, wow. Very harsh, even for Higurashi. Definitely one hell of a way to end the arc though.

The first episode of the season was deadly boring. :|

Oh, and Ayu are too slow at subbing. D:

Also, I read a bit about the explanation arc for the 3rd arc of the first season. Sounds amazing, and that arc really needed explaining. Hopefully it will be better than the crap that was the 5th arc of the first season (pointless explanation arc is pointless).

Like I said, the fifth episode was just brutal.

I was really moved by Ooishi's frusturation though, at the end of the episode. Despite how he was probably only angry because his last lead was gone, I was just happy that at least somebody was getting emotional over this.

The anime lacks the TIPS that accompanied the games, which is why some stuff seems nebulous. That's also why the first ep of Kai is a little strange / boring to some.

So... wow, this is amazing. I've been following this anime since it first started airing, everyone was obsessed with Death Note, but I knew that Higurashi was also going to be a bit of a 'sleeper' hit and followed it, and I'm so very glad I did!

My favorite arc is still the very first 4 episodes... the whole needle in the ohagi thing, and all the other crazy conspiracy action just sent chills up my spine.

I also like the ones with Satoko and the child abuse stories, for some reason those episodes really appeal to me for some reason.

I spoiled myself silly so I know everything that's going to happen. Still love watching it though. Reading spoilers pales in comparison to watching/playing it.

Oh my god, they did for me as well! We're in a very small minority, however. :(

Spoilers always ruin everything. I kind of ruined some PW3 stuff by complete accident by finding out about Maya's mother, but... ohwell, the game hasn't been totally ruined for me at all.

But, back to Higurashi, really... I've been pushing this anime onto ALL of my friends. I'm so disappointed it's going to be halted in America due to the whole Geneon fiasco. :(

Aww. But I like spoilers. I eat them like candy! :hotti:

Actually, I heard it was only a delay because of it. They're making episodes again. Matsuribayashi-hen has started.

Err... I meant in america. As far as I know Geneon isn't responsible for the Japanese airing of the episodes, but maybe I'm totally wrong?

Wikipedia ftw:

The series has finished airing and is currently only available on DVD in Japan, France, and North America (following Geneon's licensing of the series). However, in September 2007, Geneon's U.S. division announced that it would discontinue all ongoing anime projects, including Higurashi, effective November 6, 2007. Only three of a planned five DVDs of Higurashi were released, under the title "When They Cry: Higurashi".

hey wasnt there a sequel to this but it got cancelled cause this girl chopped her dad's head off and got that idea from Higurashi?

Well, I love this anime but it makes me paranoid sometimes cause it makes me feel like someone's following me...well I'm only on the 2nd arc of the first season, watching it now!

No, just an episode was canceled. Which was silly because there was no violence in that episode. And, you might want to avoid this thread for a while because this is about the second season.

Well, I kind of dropped Higurashi at 18 because of problems with my computer, I'll just have to wait for a batch torrent.

Much better than the first series.

Pretty much agreeing with the first post; the storytelling is brilliant. Gives me goosebumps.

Geneon said they'd dropped distribution. They're looking into producing the remaining DVDs of their current licenses and getting someone else to distribute, like Kadokawa Video does. But I haven't heard anything after that.

The cancelled episode aired at a later date, it's original time slot was filled in by a nice chef.

Well, Higurashi Kai is officially finished. I cried a little at the end, knowing that there would be no more epic-ness to greet me every Saturday.

However, there is hope! A 3rd season has been announced! Praise Oyashiro-sama! \( OAO)/

Actually, we're getting a delicious third season:
http://www.oyashirosama.com/web/kai/index.htm

They've already covered the entire story so the only things they can do now are original arcs, or arcs from the manga or PS2 game.

I really hope they animate Onisarashi-hen. Though the chances of that are pretty slim. They're most probably going to cover the Matsuri arcs.
