I've heard a few things about it all over the place (mostly here), and at first I dismissed it as being an anime for a female or young female audience (The term aludes me at the moment). But, from what I've heard, it's rather good, and a read at wikipedia informs me that it is actually a Seinen, which would mean it's not aimed anywhere near the demographic I had expected. I also understand it has lots of Japanese humor, but that's fine, I like that stuff.

My ultimate question: Will I enjoy Lucky Star? Should I watch it? I'm 17, male, and anime's that I enjoy are Bleach, Full Metal Alchemist, Dot Hack Sign, Last Exile, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy bebop, G Gundam (Believe it or not). Now, that being said, I'm not an action junky like that might lead you to believe. Yeah, action's great and all, but I love a good, deep, involving story as well (As evidenced by Dot Hack Sign and my love of Phoenix Wright).

Now, that said, any help in answering this question would be appreciated. :phoenix:

Prepare to sit through ten episodes of mediocre crap, five episodes of interesting 'concepts' but no funny joke, and the remainder of the show being actually enjoyable to an extent.

I'm not sure whether to be enthused about the anticipation or to have a brain aneurysm.

Also, Slayers eh? Hmm. :yuusaku:

No, I wouldn't watch it. It may be one of the most popular anime out there right now, but it's not really that good. Really it sounds like you'd want a more action oriented anime. And if you're going into lucky star looking for comedy..... you won't get what you want. Really I don't know why people like it so much.

...

Oh wait, I forgot, it's the OP and the lolis.

I like Lucky Star but I'm not sure if you should watch it. Every episode is just about 4 girls in Japan living there everyday lives. (ONE LIKES VIDEO GAMES! LE GASP!)

On a side note, you should watch Chrono Crusade! With those interests you have, it'd match really well! Honest. :maya:

Hey, isn't there only 3 more episodes left? :sadshoe: (I hope not!) Cos somewhere it said that they were only making 24 in the series and now we're up to 21.

I wait for episodes to come out. I search for fanart. I think of possible pairings.

Its a good anime. I got my sister and a friend to watch it.

Its pretty much about four girls in japan going to highschool.

Izumi Konata: Otaku extraordinaire. My fave character (Although you have quite the bunch to choose from)

Hiiragi kagami: Smart, and cute <3 She has a funky personality and is teased by Konata a lot. Shes like your typical girl. Except better. o0

Hiiragi Tsukasa: Not as smart as her twin sister, but more adorable. She's a little...Er not bright compared to her older sister. She's kinda like Konata with her grades, but Konata is just lazy.

Miyuki: (Gawd i forgot her last name) Smart, you learn lots of things from her. She's a clutz and is what Konata calls 'moe'.

Other characters are introduced but they're the main ones. I find it very entertaining, especially Konata and the theme song.

Well if you aren't into that kind of stuff; lolis, humour, no action. Then go ahead and watch it.

Lawlz the first episode was kinda strange...So much talk about food.

Hmm, I happen to like Lucky Star, the opening is catchy, Kona-chan is such a cool Otaku, and the show loves to parody other anime, games and manga. Heck it even used PW references, along with SO many others like FMA, FMP! (Full Metal Panic!), etc.

That's the thing, though. The person behind this seems to have a really old-fashioned sense of humour, to be honest. The little girl, Konata, or whatever her name is... with blue hair, comes out with some right old jokes.

To be fair, the show is one of those things you're either going to like, or hate. The premise is basic, and of course, there's a degree of sexual infatuation for any male fan who has a lolita fetish. But from what I saw, I think they're actually supposed to be seventeen, aren't they?

The sense of humour is Japanese, so in most cases, is going to be considered boring across the pond unless they make it more suited to American taste. It's very surrealist, and from what I can make of it, a look at daily life through the eyes of some schoolgirls.

Some of the questions, though mundane, are things we've all thought about before at some point. Whatever age, sex or yada yada. It's all relative.

To be honest, the show is fairly entertaining. The first episode does seem to alienate the viewer somewhat. As Ace said in the quote above, it does drag a bit. Mostly due to an odd sense of humour. After that, it tends to pick up to a more mainstream understanding, I'd say.

It's not too bad. There's a good clash of personality between the characters, however, you can't help but be reminded of Azumanga Daioh, to a degree.

My favourite part of the show, as seems to be with a few of the fans, is the Lucky Channel segment at the ending of each episode. The character called Akira is very amusing, as one minute she's the epitome of cute and adorable, and suddenly turns into the style of a middle-aged, resentful hack artist who's been in the business way too long, and seems to have a heavy smoking habit, too. She also bullies her co-host of the show to a terrible degree, as he's new to the presenting business.

If you like action, there's not a great degree, although it does spoof action series now and then. The story is quite a chain of random, day-to-day life experiences, and the only deep and involving feeling you'll get is that you've had the same experience/discussion in your own life, which is where the humour in Lucky Star is often found.

It's definitely a female orientated series, and has a few adult characters that have discussions about relationships and so forth, and seem quite out of place as authority figures above the young girls. The Father of Konata is always displayed as a complete fetishist, who's obsessed with young girls and dating simulation games. Not surprising, since he's a single Japanese parent with a young daughter who shares the same interests.

Bizarrely, I think the creator is actually male. Which would lead me to believe that a series like this, with a pretty much entirely female cast, couldn't be properly pulled off with a man behind the wheel. He seems to do a good enough job of it, but I'd imagine the large number of male fans are simply using this series as an outlet for their sexual desires. Which, is nothing to be ashamed of, but doesn't provide much of a reason to call it a good series, either.

So, in a nutshell, it simply pokes fun at life, love and schoolwork. There seems to be a theme of studying when it comes to discussing school, which isn't surprising since I'm to believe the Japanese are very anal about studying and achieving. But, then again, most people seem to be, these days.

Give it a look. But, I wouldn't make an assumption simply off the first episode. I heard that they changed the director of the show about four or five episodes into the series, since he wasn't doing a good enough job of it most likely.

The only person who's going to decide if they like the formula is yourself, Daramue. We can offer opinions all day long, but we also have differing tastes to yourself, most likely. You've got a good chance of finding it on YouTube, to give yourself a bit of a decision breaker. My opinion is strictly down the line, as the show is fairly enjoyable, but I wouldn't believe it is to everyone's particular taste.

Actually, most people seem to attach themselves to the geeky character Konata, since she's obsessed with video-games, manga and Japanese animation. This is where a brunt of the fanbase seems to be brought about from. It's packed with references to shows that are new and old, and I was quite amused by the end credits Karaoke in which Konata tried to sing Dragonball Z's "CHA LA HEAD CHA LA" and the theme "Monkey Magic" to the seventies/sixties live-action production of Saiyuki. Which, was a popular series here in Britain as it ran on the BBC during the seventies, or something. It's pretty much a cult-classic.

If you dig stuff like this, then, you should pretty much watch it. It's full of references that will make even the most seasoned geek blush.

It had quite a rough start but it rapidly picked up once it got around the two digit numbers. Last episode was phenomenally beautiful. I'm saddened that there are only two episodes left.

As Baki-Kun mentioned, the only person whose opinion you can really trust is your own. After going to a forum with Lucky Star obsessed Weeaboos, it's a rather hit-or-miss anime. I like anime like Cowboy Bebop and FMA, such as yourself, and I really didn't care for Lucky Star. After seeing the first couple episodes, it's really not that great, with the exception of Lucky Channel, and lolis if you're into that sort of thing. Even in the first few episodes, there's very little character development, where there should be, and even less interesting things the girls talk about.

Personally, I don't care for it. If the entire show was just one whole Lucky Channel segment, I would enjoy it, because Akira is much funnier than Konata, IMO. :gregory:

Well, I happened to like this anime. I could easily relate to it and I'm sure other people do to (Hey, I mean who doesn't have conversations like that in everyday life?). The art is very bright and catchy and the opening is loads of fun.

As for the Lucky Channel segments, well, let's just say you really get a kick out of those. XD

Once you watch the second half of the series you'll love it a lot. It had a real rough start but that's all that people can base it on. As a matter of fact, not all episodes are completely random.

I ended up taking the initiative and watching it, and well, I actually really, really enjoy it. Maybe not on the level I enjoyed Haruhi, but pretty darn close.

I don't even know how to explain why I like it so much, either. It's just funny, and doesn't really try to make you think it's anything other than what it is: A comedy. I can see why it's not for everybody, though; I'd imagine the impatient wouldn't like the series in the least bit. I'm not the most patient person myself, but I'm seriously captivated by the series.

And yeah, maybe people watch it for the loli's, but I'm not into that stuff. Yes, the artwork is cute and all, but I watch it for the actual substance as well. I'm glad I decided to watch it. :phoenix:
