It's pretty fucking awesome.

I had read the first novel some time ago, but the anime revived my interest in the series. It was also better.

Yeah, Baccano! is possibly the best damn show all year.

Oh, also, here's the opening

Pretty wicked.

And here's a full-series torrent. Thirteen episodes in all.

I watched the first episode, and I'm definitely interested. Actually, I love the time period it takes place in. That's enough to win points with me. XD

I fucking love Bacanno! <3 Great series, great characters, good story, even if it is all over the place xD

Post subject:  Re: Baccano!

Thanks for the torrent, downloading it now. That intro is pretty wicked, because you know a series is going to rock when there is

1. A saxophone solo in the intro
2. A character called "Jacuzzi Splot".

REVIVE THE TOPIC~

I just watched all of Baccano! in two days and it was just pure excellence all around. It feels so good to find a really awesome anime that isn't like 20 bajillion episodes long.

Oddly enough, I think my favorite character was Ladd. What a fucking psycho <3 Though I really loved Jacuzzi, too. Wish I could figure out what age he's supposed to be...

HH where were you able to read the novel?

Author:  OMFG [ Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:36 am ]
Post subject:  Re: Baccano!

I watched it right when it ended. It was great.
I think Jacuzzi is suppose to be around his late teens. I'm not sure.

Also, I would read the novels but I don't like reading books over on the computer.

Getting somewhat into it now, but I have to say the supernatural stuff is starting to get on my nerves. I don't think it adds a lot to the story, only makes it unnecessarily complicated and takes away the serious setting a bit.

Nabbed it from a friend who was going crazy over it. Afraid to say that, as far as I am aware, the Baccano! light novels are nowhere to be found online. I'm fairly sure Amazon.jp has a few of the books, however.

I hate to tell you, Tinker, but the "supernatural" aspect of Baccano! (that being the Immortals) is the entire point of it. It's not a gangster anime that happens to have immortals, it's a show about immortals, some of which happen to be gangsters. If you're not interested in people chopping off each others limbs only to have them grow back time after time after time you're watching the wrong anime. :shoe:

I wish. I read it in the original format with a few reference books and a headache in order to get it all.

I did find a torrent for novels 1-3 and 6-onwards, however, if you don't mind lack of English.

http://www.nyaatorrents.org/?page=torrentinfo&tid=5076

I'll just wait until somebody does a full translation, personally. Baccano! is developing a pretty big cult following, so I'd like to assume somebody out there is willing to.

Durnit. Since I really like the characters, I'll have to put up with it, I guess - and then again, I'm around 1/3rd in, so it'll probably grow on me. I hope.

So what was everybody's favorite part of the series?

Spoiler:
When Claire proposed to Chane, I actually felt really touched and 'aww'ed out loud. The part at the end where he gets her message to come to Manhattan gave me happy chills~

Just saw 10, and accustomed to the immortality stuff. You're right, it IS the point of the series, but it wasn't so obvious from the first few episodes.

Post subject:  Re: Baccano!

My favorite parts are

Spoiler:
The epilogue. Not knowing that you've been immortal for more than 70 years is pretty funny

And

Spoiler: includes a book spoiler
The part where Ladd punches the water tower and loses his arm. He gets automail later, however

Technically the fansubbing group I help out with every now and again is subbing this, but... it's proceeding at a glacial pace, and I'm fairly certain another group's already done all of it, so it strikes me all as a bit pointless.

Ah well. Damn fine series, even if I've only seen like, 2 episodes.

Probably the first series I've seen in years that just ends perfectly, you know?

I demand a second season, regardless. Even if 70% of the cast is dead by 2001. If the mass, mass amounts of Baccano! fanart I have are any indication however, the new characters look to be just as interesting.

I must remember to check that out, I don't feel like waiting on the TLer there.

Still, first ep was just... whoa. I was just blown away, best series I've seen in ages. Then again I don't actually watch much anime, so what do I know?

Just wondering;

What exactly was up with both Elmer (the guy who fell off the ship) and the intro?
I assume the intro is, like Rachel, just a way of telling us the story, but Elmer's wish never seems to have been explained.

Well, a large part of it tying up so well has to do with the director (or I'd assume). They basically took four novels and smashed them into one single entity, thus the going-back-and-forth effect, that allowed for a much deeper overall plot.

If they could do the same thing for the 2001-2002 novels (and maybe stick in the '33-'34s, I don't know), it could work just as well. But how knows. I've not read them so I'm not sure if it would be the best idea. I just kind of want more Baccano! >>

The bit with Carole and Gustav St. Germain, who both seem to be working for the Daily Days. They start off the series.

Not a lot though. Like I said earlier, four of those books were compiled into a thirteen episode series with complete ease.

This thread just made me get the series, it should be here soon. Thanks a lot guys, I'm looking forward to watching it.

I've enjoyed most of the personal recommendations on here so far, actually. Some of which are my new favorite series.

News: apparently there's one or two episodes that have yet to come out. Possibly DVD only and I guess are backstories.

Apparently we learn more about Elmer, as well as I guess a few other things they had been super vague about.

Finding more news now. I'd had a site that had screenshots, but I accidentally closed out of it and can't figure out where I had originally found it.

EDIT: Also, if collecting fanart is your thing or you just want to see how awesome these look, I have here a giant collection of every single piece of Baccano! fanart currently in existence (as far as the internet is concerned). Super organized to boot.

It seems a majority of the fanart all came out after the anime, so we can hopefully see more Isaacnmiria stuff soon.

But yeah, Graham and Firo get tons of shit. Luckily Claire and Chane have a lot as well. <3 Although I was kind of surprised by the fact that there were quite a few implied Firo x Riza pictures . . . As far as I'm aware, she's

No, they were in the books. But it seems they were, surprisingly, not very popular from what I gather. Amazing, I know.

Post subject:  Re: Baccano!

I don't know Tink. Those Japanese fans are pretty wonky in terms of character taste. I mean Firo? Eh, he's a good support/side-character, but he just doesn't carry any of his scenes the way several other characters did. He just doesn't work well unless he's in a group.

At least we of all nationalities can agree that Claire is delightful and deserves the best fanart. Right? Right? Yeah, I'm right.

Yes, you're right. My favourite characters are actually in three pairings - Isaac and Miria, Nice and Jacuzzi, and Claire and Chane. Though Czeslaw had a certain charm over him, too. He seemed even more psycho than Ladd.
