We know them, we love some, we hate most. Anyway, This topic is based on Movies based upon Games.

My favorite has to be Mortal Kombat, they got the story right and it's WAY better than the sequel. As for the worst.......About every game-movie made by Uwe Boll, Double Dragon and Street Fighter top my list.

Movies based off of videogames?

I guess all I can say is that I've watched every pokemon movie known to man.

I liked the first few ones... and then it grew boring and pointless..

Batman Begins on the PS2 is okay.

Spider-man for the gamecube is great.
Spider-man 2 for the gamecube is good.
Spider-man 3 for the PS2 is abysmal.
Don't mind me, just passing through.

How about that Super Mario Bros movie, that was so great... oh wait.... I have never seen any movie that was based on a Video Game any good, even the Resident Evil movie I didn't like nor care for and the upcomming Hitman movie looks pretty bad too. They ran out of good movie idea's so many years ago.

I've only ever enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie, as well as the Street Fighter Animated Movie(the movie that inspired the Alpha series). Other than that, I'm with the majority in that movies based on video games are usually pretty bad.

The Street Fighter movie does have a spot in my heart though, despite(or rather because of) its badness. "FOR ME IT WAS TUESDAY."

Oh my, I was such a freak of the Mortal Kombat movie the time I was in grade school. It was a bad influence, I got to watch it when I was 6-7 years old and I kinda wanted to do what they did in the movie and... eh >___> I used to do fights with my brother and ended up making him cry almost every time (and mom got mad at me ^^;) I liked the sequel as well, but to a lesser extent. The third one was pure rubbish.

I've never seen any other movies based on video games except the three Mortal Kombat movies and the first Resident Evil movie. I watch a lot of trailers and summaries of the other movies though, just to see if they match the storyline and characters of the video games they're based on. And most of them do not, which is a shame.

And I just heard a Tekken movie has been confirmed and they are holding auditions for it now. >__>

Come to think about it, I want a Metroid movie. But it has to be high-budget.

Oh...well in that case...
Street Fighter movies are terrible.
Resident Evil movies are mediocre.
That Doom movie was god awful.
Super Mario Brothers made me cringe.

I haven't seen too many of them but I would like to see Super Mario Bros. film just to see how bad everyone says it is.

And The Resident Evil Films would have been better if they stuck a little close the main game ideas. And Silent Hill was a good movie, I enjoyed it. :larry2:

Most Video Game Movies have been nothing but crushing dissapointments to my fragile mind...save for Silent Hill, and I agree with ButzPuff.

It's on Youtube at the time. Although it's not REALLY as bad as everyone says it is. The fact that it doesn't stick to the games too much, has kind of cheesy dialogue & has some some REALLY stupid ideas that suck bring it down, but it's okay when you compare it to other movies based on games.

Favorite VG movies: Silent Hill (Loyal fan to the series since 1999.) and Super Mario Bros. (So bad and cheesy, I like it.)

That's right, I am seriously not kidding!

All the rest suck.

(Well...maybe not the first Mortal Kombat, but it's not my one of my favorites.)

All the people pissing and moaning about how bad, game -> film transitions are... clearly has not heard of the genius known as Uwe Boll. He works exclusively with films based on video games, and he has yet to make anything that could be described as less than a timeless epic.

Well if that's the case, then I'm sure you were in utter rage when Kojima said that the Metal Gear Solid movie will NOT involve Uwe Boll in any way.

I dislike Uwe Boll, but I hear he's popular in Germany. (But if he is, why was his auction on the germany Ebay to be on Far Cry without any bidders?)

The first Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter are probably my favorite...SF on the basis it's so cheesy that it's fantastic...casting Van Dame as American Hero Gulie was genius...add the fact he made no effort to fake an "American" accent, nor hide his own...pure genius...the one-liners from the game were good too, and the costumes were great...and of course the final victory poses at the end of the movie had me dying in glee/laughter.

I liked the resident evil movies. Sure they weren't really on the same level as the games, but meh. I liked the movies as a stand alone thing.

I also liked Doom, but admit it wasn't anything special. Certainly better than EVERY Uwe Boll movie by alot. So that means Doom was watchable, and COULD be enjoyed.

I can't really think of anything else at the moment that I did like.
(And call me a blasphemer, but I hated all the mortal kombat movies. I also hate all the mortal kombat games, so maybe thats why. Scorpion and sub zero do kick ass though, every other character is pretty lame/shitty.)

I take it you're including the animated "The Journey Begins"? I thought you were talking about the third live action, which has been in developmental hell for quite some time. 2010 has been listed as a tentative release date, but I'm not hopeful.

But yeah, Annihilation was appaling. It was a total departure from the original. OMFG RAIDEN IS SHAO KHAN'S BROTHER DESPITE THE FACT HE'S A GOD 8UUUU

There was actually a rumour that they were releasing film adapations of the games themselves under the name of Biohazard, but it seems to be unfounded.

What. the. heck? I swear there was a third live-action movie...

Ah, wait. I just checked my DVD Rental's site and I think I'm talking about Mortal Kombat Conquest: Final Battle. It's said to be part of the live-action tv show Mortal Kombat Conquest. The weird thing is, Wikipedia idincates there was no movie of the tv show. Maybe I just saw some episode, but I swear it was in the length of a full movie...

Oh, and I forgot to add to my first post: I've watched Tomb Raider as well XD

I liked Super Mario Bros. when I was little. Haven't seen it in a long time, so I don't know if I'd like it now. Goombas dancing ftw! :gant:

Uh...the Mortal Kombats were okay.

That's all. Haven't seen any others, unless Pokemon counts.

Woah, nobody liked Final Fantasy Advent Children? Personally, I didn't understand a single thing in it (because I've never played FF7), but I thought it was cool, nonetheless.

...oooorrrrrrrrr they just didn't like Advent Children because it wasn't a good movie, in which I'd have to agree. It had pretty visuals......and that's about it. Nothing but fanservice nonsense made for people who constantly masturbate to FFVII.

Advent Children was OK... I understood what they were trying to get at after listening to the director's commentary, but it could've been better for sure. People who played FFVII would definitely appreciate it more.

Silent Hill was probably the only real game to movie adaptation I truly enjoyed. Using the actual game soundtracks ftw <3.

I've watched one or two Mortal Kombat movies waaay back when, and the first Resident Evil movie, didn't really like them. I'm scared to watch the Dead or Alive movie so I'll just leave it.. :payne:

Wasn't Peter Jackson working on a Halo movie or something? Not that I'm a big fan of Halo, but considering the high expectations of it (and possibly huge budget?), MAYBE it'll turn out well?

You aren't missing much...it's pretty crappy...although the fact they actually tried to incorporate Xtreme Volleyball is pretty funny itself.

Advent Children was okay...I only watched the subbed version (I do have the American DVD, but I never actually watched the dubbed version, haha) and it may have been because of the poor/quick translation of the US version of FF7, but a lot of the "retconned" deaths (or lack therefore of) disappointed me...it felt like they were cramming in characters just to show fan service. I still believe that AC wasn't needed and 7 was fine the way it ended.

I pretty much hated Advent Children, and I love FFVII. Not obsessed, but I thinks its a great game.

I didn't like it mostly because all my favorite characters (Cid, Barret, basically the rest of the group) only showed up twice in the whole thing. It felt too focused on Cloud to me. I know he's the main guy, but still. Should've just stayed the game, personally. Hot dern it looked mighty purdy though. :jake:
"Dilly dally shilly shally..." :yuusaku: Didn't get it.

So my friend is thinking about a Legend of Zelda movie. Do you think it could be pulled off?
I'm skeptical, myself. Even if you had the budget, the right people...would gamers be interested?

Advent Children...was very action based, and the visuals were amazing. There was nothing that I could see that would set someone off, everyone was...covered even Tifa. I don't think Ms. Citizen was hating the people who don't like the movie, more like calling them out.
Overall the movie was okay, not great or amazing.
Don't mind me, just passing through.

I thought it was okay....it pretty much felt like a CGI version of Starship Troopers to me (not a bad thing, as I enjoyed ST). However I think it suffered a lot in the box office because it was called "Final Fantasy." Fans of the franchise were expecting FF, but got a Sci-Fi moive instead. If it was called something else, I think it would've fared better with Square Fans and FF fans and of course in the box office.

Hard to say...a LoZ could easily be as epic as the LotR movies (Orlando Bloom for Link, hahaha), but I'm personally so used to Link being a silent hero (not counting the 80's cartoon), that it's hard to imagine a movie with him with dialog and such. I think it could be pulled off, the story itself isn't overly complicated, and gamers and movie goers alike could get into it. I have no doubt at all gamers would definitely be interested (just don't get our bud, Uwe to be director). Hell, I know gamers that are still waiting on the Metroid movie, the MGS movie, as well as some other game-based films.
