This movie rocks! Has anyone else seen it?

For those who don't know, it's a movie about how Manhattan gets attacked by something, and it's all shot with a handheld camera.

Personally, I think they did something amazing with the camera, because it's really hard to get the timing right with some things. Looking at one group of actors, then having another group get focused on and act on cue is just amazing. And the special effects were so well done, you couldn't really tell what was green screen and what wasn't!

For those who have seen it...

Spoiler: Ending spoilahz!
Did anyone else notice the big splash at the end? I saw it the first time I went, but I don't think anyone else did... I only was looking for it because I know JJ Abrahms does stuff like that... At the end, when you're looking out over the ocean, to the right of the screen, left of the boat, there's a blink-and-you-miss-it moment where something crashes down from the sky on the horizon.

So, nearly everything was in fact answered in the movie, if you knew where to look and you payed attention ^^

No, you see, that's called ... acting. Most people you see in movies tend to do this.

Also, the movie was either mediocre or just-decent. I'm not sure which. Didn't really like it a whole lot.

I liked it. I thought it was pretty good, they could have at least given the monster a bit more screen time.

I thought the best part was when my brother had to leave for about 20 minutes due to the motion sickness kicking in.

But I was sad when Hud died, he was the best character. But at least the movie ended shortly after.[blur=][/blur]

That would've ruined the movie.

In fact, showing the monster so up close at all sort of killed it for me, because it looked so goddamn stupid.

It was disappointing for me. It's one of those really hyped up things but in the end it's not as good as it thought it was.

I actually enjoyed this movie, I'll admit, but I agree with Holy Hell that showing the monster like that killed it.
Spoiler: just to be safe
Should've ended after the helicopter crash.

It made me incredibly sick though. I felt like such a pansy, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. :<

I didn't get sick at all, I really don't know how anyone else could have...
They couldn't have
Spoiler: Ooh, a spoiler!
Ended it after the crash, because it wrapped up some of the loose ends after it. We got the promised look at the monster, and a tie-in with the marketing campaign.

I'm looking forward to the video game (Which will suck pretty hard, but would be interesting to look at) and the sequal, which will happen, because...

Spoiler: Wait for it...
Rob and Beth may be alive! And the monster might have lived too... we'll never know...

Spoiler: Impossible
Rob and Beth could not have lived through:

1. Getting attacked directly up front by the monster

2. Getting crushed by the rubble

3. Getting obliterated in the giant bomb blast/wave that demolished Manhattan.

One of those, or all three, got them.

Can anyone please explain to me what is suppose to be so great about this movie? Everyone I know who has seen says that they loved it. To me, it seems to be another "American Godzilla" movie but with weaker storyline.

You know, I actually don't know how to explain this movie... it's very thrilling... fairly unique in setting/background/monster...

And Holy Hell?
Spoiler: One thing...
They never went face to face with the monster. So that little theory doesn't work.
They might have survived the rubble. It's unlikely, but possible. They wouldn't get out unharmed, but they might live. And as for the bomb, it's probable that they died in the blast, but if you stay through the credits, there's a voice saying, 'Help us' or 'They're still alive...' I can't remember which one. So there's my reasoning.

Actually, the transmission at the end was a Military Transmission, and he was saying that...

Spoiler:
That the monster is still alive, even after they nuked the city, besides no one would really care if two humans survived that.

I fucking loved it. I fucking loved it five times as much as you. In other news, a four-part manga prequel to the movie is being made, and Hasbro will release figures of the monster for release in September.

Spoiler:
It's not a 'theory'. It's "look at all of the possible ways that they could have died at once". Besides, had they survived getting crushed under the bridge by that mass of rock, the blast would have killed them. There is no debating this. They basically nuked the damn thing.

There were two blasts, obviously with fire. If it was a nuke, there would just have been one bright flash. Also, the chances of the camera surviving would have dropped so much more.

And that comic is on so much crack... But fun...

Just saw it yesterday, it liked it. Never seen the Blair Witch Project or whatever (some horror movie that also uses first person) and I thought the camera was a nice idea. Really intense movie, I almost never watch thrillers/monster movies and I thought Cloverfield was awesome.

I saw the movie and thought it was pretty good. It felt more like a theme park thriller show than a movie in a lot of ways.... With the sound turned up so high and all the shaking and crap I felt like my heart was pounding the whole time XD.

I liked the weird look of the monster, but I was disappointed because I had seen this picture before going in, and I think the gimp whale looks a lot cooler and a lot more believable than the broken-legged freak they put on. From what I've read from different interviews and such, the thing that falls in the last scene of the movie is actually supposed to be a satellite, that "woke up" the slumbering monster when it fell on him or something. And that's just retarded.

I know Godzilla and all the original BIG MONSTER movies didn't require explanations, but...if JJ wants us to believe it was a sea monster several thousands of years old, he should have made it look like something that could actually survive in water. Thing didn't even have webbed feet! Nature doesn't make sea monsters with knobby knuckles.

Buuuut dispelling my disbelief even further let me enjoy the movie a great deal. It's a good thing they used the angle of the handcam/normal people because I think it would have sucked if it had been from a military point of view.

Can you imagine if they made a roller coaster out of this? Or put it in IMAX? I think people would die of heart attacks...
That picture does look nifty, but the movie monster was a lot more creepy then that. That just looks like something I'd want to hug XD
There's actually a bit where you see another guy holding a video camera. So potential crossover? A military POV might be interesting if they release a short one with the DVD... it would shed some info on everything, and maybe we could find out what happened after...

Sure, it looks cute, but honestly it also looks (possibly) more frightening in terms of "Jesus christ this is huge as huge can be huge its eyes are lifeless it's just a fucking whale thing holy fuck it cannot be reasoned with and you cannot hold a very intellectually stimulating conversation with it for it is the personification of destruction ahhhhhhh".

The frog/lice/anorexic Godzilla thing just acted like an angry child having a tantrum once you actually saw it (to add more complaints about the thing from me). That's just off-putting.

I liked it a lot, probably because I wasn't obsessing over the viral/online/campaigny/hype stuff. I looked at those things after I saw the movie.

I didn't want to be disappointed and expect something. So, I just hoped it was good, and to me, it was.

Though, I feel it's one of those "Only really really good when you watch in the theaters the first time and the other times it's just okay" types of movies.

Once again proving that Bloody-Disgusting is ahead of the game, Variety confirmed our news (Jan. 19) that Paramount Pictures is fast-tracking a sequel to the smash hit monster movie Cloverfield (reviews). The studio is looking to have Matt Reeves return to the director's chair and is aiming to make it his next film. Read on for the official announcement.

Matt Reeves is in early talks with Paramount to direct a "Cloverfield" sequel, and he has also made a deal with GreeneStreet Films to direct "The Invisible Woman."

Timing of the projects will depend on how quickly Paramount can complete discussions with Reeves, producer J.J. Abrams and scribe Drew Goddard to scare up another monster tale for the "Cloverfield" sequel. There's a good chance the sequel will be Reeves' next film, in which case he will direct "The Invisible Woman" afterward.

"Woman" is a Hitchcock-style thriller that probes the mind of a former beauty queen who turns to a life of crime to protect her family.
Reeves wrote the script and will produce with Abrams and GreeneStreet's John Penotti, Fisher Stevens and Tim Williams.
"Matt has created a truly original and compelling character and story," said GreeneStreet's Penotti.

GreeneStreet will finance "The Invisible Woman," and GreeneStreet Intl. will sell overseas territories.
With a $25 million budget, a strong concept and cast of unknowns, "Cloverfield" scored a $46 million opening frame, which was a record for a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend. Paramount gave away almost no first-dollar gross, making the film a bargain for the studio.
GreeneStreet recently completed two films: the John Polson-directed "Tenderness," starring Russell Crowe, which was just set for distribution at Lionsgate, and "Bill," directed by Melisa Wallack and Bernie Goldmann, which will be distributed by First Look Studios.

Spoiler: Mysterious Voice...
The voice was saying "Help us..." If you listened to it at the end of the credits... BUT! If you play it in reverse, you can clearly, and I mean CLEARLY hear it saying "Its still alive..." thus giving us a clue that cloverfield (I've dubbed the monster Cloverfield) is still alive, and that there might be a sequal.

Well, I wasn't a big fan of Cloverfield as it was too much to absorb and analyse in just 2 hours. It's sort of a big and glorified LOST series in just 2 hours. Biggest waste of $12.50 for me to see it :edgeworth:
