Eddie Brock to get his stand alone film, Venom is coming back to the big screen!

One of the biggest disappointments from Spider-Man 3 was how they developed the villains, or actually how they didn't develop the villains, but between the three baddies that we had to contend with the biggest let down was Eddie Brock A.K.A. Venom.
Venom, by far one of the coolest villains in the Spider-Man universe, was played poorly by Topher Grace and was definitely one of the biggest let downs in the entire Spider-Man trilogy.

Not to say Topher Grace was the wrong man for the job, but with poor material and a badly put together movie, you just weren't going to get any stellar performances. I mean, asking God to kill Peter Parker is one of the lamest lines I've ever heard.

But Venom fans rejoice, Marvel is moving forward with a new stand alone film, yep you heard right, Venom is coming back to the big screen.
We've confirmed that "the studio" has met recently with several "A list writers" about a spin-off film.

Eight years ago, New Line Cinema held the theatrical rights to Venom. Since then, the rights have reverted back Marvel. But does Sony have complete control over the character since he was a part of Spidey 3 or does Marvel control the rights to the character with Sony only having distribution rights?

We have to assume that since there is movement and there has been recent meetings with writers this property must belong to Marvel since they have made an interim agreement with the WGA and proceed to develop projects during the current strike. Either way, one thing is for certain, Venom will get a second shot at the big screen.

I'm curious on who they're asking to write, and what they can come up with...

"Spin-off film"? Sounds more like general appeal to the fans to me. If they had actually taken the time to flesh out Venom's character in Spidey 3, we wouldn't have this mess.

It's like they've taken the "milking" tactic to a whole new level.

Emo Spidey definately made me laugh internally in the theater, but it's good that he was only in one movie. I've been a fan of Spider-Man for years and the fact that they made him emo in the third film really blew the whole movie.

As long as Emo Spidey isn't going to appear in Venom the Movie and Topher Grace (who was good in That 70's show) won't star the head role, I have no objections.

Yea, everyone was laughing there asses off when he pulled his hair down. Kinda killed the seriousness that should have been in the movie.

I had serious high hopes for Venom, there's no way Venom should have only been in the last 20 minutes of the film. He was more than a fighter, he played some serious mind games with Peter. I hope we can get Carnage in this spin-off too, probably asking for to much but a closed mouth doesn't get fed.

Emo? He didn't act at all Emo. He just changed his hairstyle. He was too happy to be an emo.

This sounds quite interesting, a film based on Venom. I just hope it's actually good. Spider-Man 3 was OK, but somewhat of a let down. Now Ghost Rider and The Fantastic Four movies? Ugh... those were abominations. Especially Ghost Rider. Ghost Rider should have been a lot darker and more well-made.

This sounds like a similar deal with what they're doing with the X-Men. Isn't each character supposed to get a spinoff movie or something? Anyways, a Venom movie... That'd be interesting. Carnage might be in it maybe?

What? They're doing that?!

I expect that only the really popular characters would get spin-offs.

Yeah, I heard something like that. I don't know the whole details or anything, 'cause I'm not a big X-Men fan. But IGN probably has some info about them.

The movie was pretty good, actually. Although, Venom did pretty much suck. Topher Grace was just a bad choice.

Anyways, I'm not going to see this. I have a bad feeling this will almost ruin the whole trilogy. Giving Venom a spin-off movie is like giving Howard the duck a sequel. It's just a bad idea.

Look at 'Elektra' or 'Catwoman'. Both terrible Spinoffs, both based on comics. This is the same reason I'm not excited for Wolverine or Chun-Li. I'd be happy if Venom never came back and they just started working on Spider-Man 4 with Jackal/Hydro-Man/Kraven/Whoever. I expect this to suck, but if I get bored one day, want to watch a movie in the theaters, and everything else in the theater looks like S**t, I'll try it.

He was happy because he thought being emo is cool thus he failed. He was happy because he could kick some butts.

My fanboy-ism will probably make me see the Venom movie. And, even though everybody says Spiderman 3 was bad, I still liked it.

It wasn't that bad, but it wasn't really great either. The fact that Venom was in it for so little time really made it worse.

I would also go to see the Venom movie if it came.

He never listened to a Linkin Park CD in the film. But I guess that could be because he couldn't find his CD.

Being a big fan of Venom when I was growing up, I'm definitely looking forward to this. I didn't hate Topher Grace as Venom in Spidey 3, but I agree he didn't have alot of development and was only tacked in for the fans.
