Aware that this looks like a grubby money-maker by cynics (myself included), Daniel Radcliffe insists that's not so. "I think it's the only way you can do it without cutting out a huge portion of the book. There have been compartmentalized subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut -- although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans -- but the seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go."
Producer David Heyman says it was a difficult decision to make for the studio. "I swear to you it was born out of purely creative reasons. Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book. You can remove scenes of Ron playing quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots . . . but with the seventh, that can't be done." Author J.K. Rowling has given her approval, much to everyone's relief.
I do admire that they are so dedicated to giving us the complete Deathly Hallows story that it wears down my cynicism. I disagree that there aren't things that couldn't be trimmed down -- Harry, Hermione and Ron's months upon months of hiding out in a tent, for one. But the fact that it was such an edge-of-the-seat read makes me worry they'll lose that momentum by splitting it in half. And what of the age factor? Will Radcliffe look 35 by the time this is finished?

Also, hopefully, they won't fuck over the movie too much. A decent point to cut it would be when they find Gryffindor's Sword at the Forest of Dean, since it's (plot-wise) around mid-book, and would provide for a fantastic cliffhanger for the sequel.

thats part true, i dislike the series finale because she could have use the pages showig what characters do instead of the f*cking trio going everywhere. the prince is the only good sidestory (i wanted to see more ginny)

Am I the only one against this? I'll be seeing it anyway (so either way, they'll be getting my cash), but I honestly think it's a stupid idea. DH is big, but they already took liberties with the first 5, books (and I'm sure they will with HBP), so I don't see why they wouldn't do the same with this (JKR approves the changes too)...and some of the points/arcs in the previous books that weren't in the previous movies are in the final book, so they're already written themselves into a corner.

Alan Rickman's one of my favourite actors...
He was great in perfume, He changed from Grenouille's hater to lover in one sec.. (also was the father of Laura) And in sweenie todd is just a Badass... (but in the end he was only guilty from reclude his wife and his stepdaughter in Mental Assylum) I hope Snape don't dissapointme now, if he gets so little time (snape in the 6th is just plain great)

He's the only Alan Rickman of the movies, so I'd guess so.
And it sounds like a good idea. The movies always felt very rushed and totally weird to anyone who hasn't read the books, without any explanations.

I meant that within the cast of the movies (potential exception made of Emma Watson, who plays Hermione), he's easily the actor that best gets into his role and plays his character just the way most people would imagine him from reading the books. In other words, it's almost as if Snape was written with Rickman in mind. =p
