So of course in anime fandom you have the different perspectives concerning dubs and the original material. In different opinions, dubs seem way better than what it was in the original Japanese, the other way around, what comes first is first, or the comment that al dubs r teh ultimit suck without considering anything. Now from what I understand, the people in Japan seem to care less on what happens to material. I mean, if it gets popular beyond, hey, that's good right? (Though this is what it seems to be from what I seen.) But then here in America you seem to have people more concerned over it than the actual originals themselves. But putting that aside...since we care about another country's quality of shows in different places, do we care about our own cartoons. EXAMPLE... (Boondocks Japanese dub; omgwtfbbq) (yeah I made this whole rant that might start drama just to show this) Let's start naming certain things that are so odd about it. For anyone unaware of the series, it's a cartoon based on a comic strip, that satires American culture and your typical racial stereotypes for the fun of it all. First: African American people are non-existent in Japan. Second: Is the "DON'T DROP THE SOAP" joke common in Japanese culture? With a couple more in my head...this is where the irony runs in: the difficulties of properly translating Japanese in-jokes in dubs. And watchers of Avatar the Last Airbender? Well okay. That wasn't as strange compared to earlier since the show really is Asian-based. But, if you are a fan and focus on details on the show, you would know that there are hardly any Japanese connections at all, but rather, Hindu and Chinese themes. So. Share any other samples of this awkward situation~ |

Nickolodean (not the people behind the show) is pretty Japonphile and will never sponsor actual anime. (You know those silly Avatar shorts parodying anime chibi style?; At some point in-script one of the characters couldn't get away saying "chibi" but had to go saying "tiny" commenting on the art style of one of the other people.) |

^ WATASHI WAS MAMA LUIGI DESU. I BELIEVE I saw Spongebob dubbed in Japanese once. To be honest, it was rather interesting, but it didn't have subs, sadly, so I don't know if the dialogue was awkward or not. |

The Mario bros show has been dubbed in Japanese... Its pretty funny. Powerpuff Girls Z is really good though in Japan. Completely revamped, some are cool Butch, and the others... Mojo Jojo. I am not so sure about that Girl show with an agency called Whoop. There is no way ANY Seiyuus can make this good. W.I.T.C.H. would be nice, or Winx |

Although no matter how many times epic that is, not really. D: Nonetheless Powerpuff Girls Z was a complete remake, as with Witchblade (with the anime version being more popular than it's opposing original version). |

Totally spies isn't american, it's a french show filled with various fetishes. Also, I saw Grim adventures and Fosters in japanese. Grim adventures was fucking horrible. And fosters was Ok. |

Freaking hell, that Japanese trailer made Totally Spies! seem better than what it really is. (now i want to see a clip of Martin Mystery in Japanese) But I'm just overall against Marathon cartoons in general because of how exaggerated "LOLANIME!" they try to make their shows. |

one of my friends mentioned something about Star Wars being dubbed in Japanese. Apparently its very different to what they really say in English. They said that "may the force be with you" becomes something like "may the air around you give you good luck" or something like that. |

Everyone's assuming that Japan's a pretty sheltered country with very limited knowledge of others. I don't really understand why though... Especially seeing how the more urbanized areas are copying Westerners. Watatata~! wrote: First: African American people are non-existent in Japan. Not really. It is rare to see a lot of them but that doesn't mean that the predjudice towards color isn't present in Japan. A lot of Asian countries actually prefer whiter skin too. Hmm, I'm sure they'd tweak the shows a bit to cater to the taste of the population just as they do to Japanese shows in America. It doesn't really seem like that much of a big deal though. |

From what I found they do indeed keep the typical cursing and usual Jew jokes so... |
