Hello to you all, as some of you may have guessed from my username I am a big fan of Ruroni Kenshin. I've been looking around on this forum and haven't been able to find a RuroKenshin thread yet. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands and create one for all fellow fans(and anyone else) to discuss everything about the anime series. This is all Kenshin, all the time here! Hope everyone has fun. :will:

The anime was only good for the Kyoto arc(and even then, Saitou vs Kenshin was the best fight in the entire series). Had they done the Jinchuu arc it would've been great, but instead the series ended with nothing but fillers. Bad fillers. Seishohen doesn't do Kenshin vs Enishi ANY justice at all, especially when they totally skipped the Six Mates' battles and those four Chinese guardians.

Goddamnit, you brought out the lame Kenshin fan in me. Look what you did. >=(

While I don't think that RuroniKenshin was lame I do agree with you about the crappy fillers. It is my biggest complaint about the series.

Oh yay~

RK was the first anime/manga I really got into. I actually prefer the RK manga, though the anime itself isn't so bad.

Ah, sweet sweet nostalgia...

I actually have all the manga and almost all the english dubs. I honestly prefered the Jinchuu arc over the Tales of the Meiji in the anime.

Quite possibly my favorite manga series of all time. ^^ I can reread it again and again. There's just something about it that I love. I enjoyed the characters, the comedy, Watsuki kept the story interesting, and his art style was always evolving. Honestly, you look from the first to the last, and wow. A big change.

I do have to agree with Johnny Rainbow on anime though. Ending on some Feng Shui filler was not what I would call fulfilling, especially when you know what's suppose to come next. That being said though, the Kyoto arc was well done. The OVAs I would've appreciated it more if it actually wasn't based on the Kenshin series and it was just some other samurai series. I found that they took away what the made the series what it was.

Either way, yay for a Kenshin Thread. ^^

Just started watching it yesterday, only seen a few episodes, so it's too early to judge but it seems pretty good so far.

Well, if you like samurai with a mix of fighting, drama, and of course- comedy, then chances are, you'll may enjoy it. ^^

Heh-heh. Truth to that. ^^ Yahiko was always a character that I really liked, and them seeing him mature and kick ass is even more awesome. XD

Myeah, it was a neat little extra after the series.

Neat hmmm.. I'd say it was awesome! XD The 6 pages in color in the Kenshin Kaden was also nice, if only there were more...
Aww, I suddenly missed RuroKen...

Myeah. I still love that series, and it's been years since I got into it. XD

Then they had the re-release of the series in Japan with colour and a bunch of new sketches from Watsuki. Made me all giddy.

I still have this hope in my mind, that they're remake the anime series, or at least finish Jinchuu. But alas, tis' just hope I suppose.

Ah, Enishii, a crazy bastard, but awesome nonetheless.

I think they did the second OVA to make up for the lack of the flashback and jinchuu storylines in the anime. It's a shame that the fillers all sucked balls, they couldn't even air the rest of the episodes because the show's gotten that terrible(during the TV run, it got canceled a few episodes before the last).

EDIT: P.S.- The movie sucked too. An animated motion picture with animation quality slightly better than the TV show, with only one character returning besides the main group(Saitou). Gimme a break..

I actually didn't mind the movie so much. I mean, it obviously could've been better, but I didn't mind it. It was what I had expected it to be, so I wasn't all that disappointed. Better than the 'Feng Shui' ending of the anime (what was THAT about?). I knew that it was going to end on a filler... but honestly...

Yeah, I remember reading about the anime for the popularity going down the drain when the fillers popped up. I understand the reason for a filler, but come on, it was almost as though they were trying to hard to come up with the craziest thing they could think of.

OVA, I have mixed feelings about, as said before, so myeah.

Other than that though, I still enjoy the series, and despite it's imperfections, it's still my favorite series to read, and even watch when I feel like it.

Yeah, the Kenshin Kanzenban series. ^^ Basically, it was the all the pages that were done in colour originally for the magazine as well as new sketches that Watsuki made of the old characters. You can find the scans at The Oro. Still, I would love to have the actual mangas on my shelf. :edgy:

I kinda pop in and out of the fandom myself. Every few months I check to see if there's anything new that Watsuki has been doing, or if there's any new Kenshin stuff about. Yeah, I'm a nerd. XD

I want to check out his new series Embalming. I saw his little ones shots and now I'm curious about the series itself.

Post subject:  Re: The Offical RuroKenshin Thread

Wow, another Watsuki-fan XD I really like the way Misao looks in the Kanzenban XD

I've heard of Embalming but haven't seen anything related to it yet. I've seen Busou Renkin, I think it was the series he made after RuroKen. RuroKen was way better, but then again I still finished Busou Renkin even though it didn't meet my expectations. It was still quite enjoyable and some characters really reminded me of RuroKen XD But I also haven't seen Gunblaze yet T_T

Post subject:  Re: The Offical RuroKenshin Thread

Yeah, Busou Renkin was his third manga series. Gunblaze didn't really get off the ground from what I've been told, and though Busou Renkin wasn't as popular as RuroKen, it was still liked. I read the first four mangas, and watched a few of episodes of the anime. I was into it, but out of nowhere I stopped for whatever reason, and didn't finish it. So, I think I will once I'm done the anime I'm watching now.

I've seen his one shots for Embalming, but I couldn't get the translations, so I was basically making up what the story was about in my mind. XD Because that's the cool thing to do.

Post subject:  Re: The Offical RuroKenshin Thread

I just copied this from a post a made earlier in the Godot fanclub thread.

Spoiler: Similarities of Godot and Enishi
It's just that I've noticed a lot of similarities between Godot and Enishi.

First, the hair style and color - They both have spikey hair. Both their hair colors weren't naturally white. Enishi's hair turned white because of anger while Godot's hair turned white because of the poison (if I remember right).

Both are wearing vest-like clothes - Godot's wearing a long sleeved polo under the vest while Enishi isn't. But still, they're still wearing clothes of similar style.

Both are damaged characters and angry at the protagonist - Godot hated Phoenix because he believed it was his fault that Mia died while Enishi hated Kenshin because he killed Tomoe. The reason for hatred of the two are very similar because they believed it was the protagonist's fault why they both lost the closest and most important person in their lives.

Both characters appear at the end - Godot appeared only in Trials and Tribulations. Enishi appeared only in the Jinchuu arc, which is the last arc of the story.

What started it, happened in the past. Before the current time setting of the game/manga - In Godot's case, it began the moment they met Dahlia. We see this part in the game but it's actually a flashback of what happened several years before the current setting. In Enishi's case, it began the moment Tomoe met Kenshin which was shown somewhere in the middle of the manga as a flashback while Kenshin was telling his tale.

And last, since I can't think of anything anymore, they saw the image of their most important person at the end! - Godot saw an image of Mia doing the super objection along with Phoenix at the end. Enishi saw an image of her sister in Kaoru at the end when Kaoru uses her body to block Kenshin from Wu Hei Hsin's view in order to protect him.

Well, that's it. I just felt like sharing it again.

I don't know why I haven't posted here yet. I hold a lot of respect for Watsuki, both as an author and as a person. Quite a lot of it has to do with his evolution and desire to really try things out he hasn't before; experimentation. Kenshin was pretty well-done, Gun Blaze I'll refrain from talking about, but Buso Renkin... My god, has Buso Renkin been the pinnacle of his career so far. Absolutely phenomenal work. Characters were both quirky (sometimes just being fucking weird) and rich, its fight scenes were always either creative or done well, and the tone of it was just too fun.

Also, to the people reading the English edition of his manga officially: don't fucking skip his author's notes. He has a lot of great things to say that really give a lot of insight into his work and mind. Even if Rurouni Kenshin consists of a bit too many "I stole the character design from a Marvel comic, sorry :(". Too bad Buso Renkin's stuck them at the end instead of in-between chapters. Made them much harder to read.

I'll get around to reading Embalming soon. Hopeully, he doesn't let me down.
