The park, named after the small lake's dark hue, and the reflexion it threw back at the beholder when it gazed into said lake. The area surrounding the park was far less grim than what the name inferred. It was well-managed, and beautiful when the sun woke or slept. Artificial lights were strategically placed as to confer enough lights for loving couples to find their way on the sinuous paths contained in the park.
At various intervals, there were benches for people to rest on. Certain hoodlums or general ne'er-do-wells hung around those benches in an attempt to be a burden on society. Of course, the park's guardians, the caretakers, were always on the lookout, but they never truly bothered anyone.
It wasn't much of a place to be during the day - no open fields for schoolchildren to play with. You could see the odd person coming to reflect about their life while walking, surrounded by a controlled nature. However, at night, it was one of the few naturally romantic date spots for young couples to court themselves.
The mysterious man was dragging on a cigar, sitting on a bench, a hat covering his eyes. His medium-length brown hair slung over his shoulders as though they were the heaviest burden of the world. The morning paper was beside him, read, and ruffled. He seemed to relax, not waiting for anything in particular, and looked at the few people coming and going, as though he was trying to figure out what they were doing here.
