"Why would they send a lawyer on a scientific expedition?"

lawyer?! Just, a lawyer?!" I can assume your attentiveness to details are not the sharpest in the tool shed Nell." He picked up his small backpack and slung it over his shoulder, ready to board. "If you would have looked past the obvious title, I clearly stated I have many Ph.D.'s and post-master degrees. Since that wasn't obvious, I might as well make them." His eye narrowed, forcing the thought of importance. "Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry and analytical physics. Post Mas. in Statistics and Calculus in fields of theoretical and based calculations." He turned, and walked for the loading dock. "A Lawyer doesn't make a scientist or a mathematician Ms. Valentine. But given the opportunity, a scientist and a mathematician could take any sight of a Lawyer."

(Eh, leave him be. We'll let him change when he gets knocked down a peg in character. This is going to be fun.... And everything after here is in character and said with the upmost respect to all parties involved)

"You do realize that you only said to her that you had, and I quote," he glanced at his notebook, "'Many post masters and a PhD,' though that neither says whether they be in anything scientific or outside of law... And obviously they never taught you humility in law school." He said with a smirk. Hopefully that took him down a few pegs. CAUSE AT LEAST MY MAMA RAISED ME RIGHT! he thought as he mentally pelvic thrusted.

((Yeah, it's fine, for the moment. If it's really his personality, then it's fine. We can deal with that.))

Angel, after hearing that remark, knew she had nothing to do left, so she continued to walk up the plank and got another envelope from the person standing at the top of the plank. She then opened the envelope and read,

Ms. Angelina Aquino,

Welcome to the S. S. Corentine. Please be acquainted with your fellow expedition members as their trust will be needed on this voyage. You will be staying in Room 4. I hope your voyage will be pleasant.

Prof. Travis L. Intyme

She also saw a key inside the envelope. "This must be for the room then." She waited for the others to climb aboard before she would go to her room.

Weakly, he yawned. "Obviously they never taught proper grammar in High school. I said, thus I quote, 'As far as you need to know, I'm a prosecutor. Many post-masters and Ph.D. degrees in the sense, but none that are important as we stand.' Now, lets do a little cut-n'-analyze here. 'As far as you need to know, I'm a prosecutor.' Nothing special but the statement that I have one profession as a prosecutor. 'Many post-masters and Ph.D. degrees in the sense, but none that are important as we stand.' Coin the fact that 'important' is in synonym with 'relevant'. Now, why would I discard the fact of my Ph.D. and post-masters? Because they do not relevate with me being a prosecutor. Easily stating that they are definitely out of law." He began to board onto the ship. "I guess details really don't matter to the text of people anymore."

Elias stood there for a moment. "...F***..." He muttered under his breath. Then he glanced at Nell and offered his arm. "Well then, shall we board?"

Howl luged onto the S.S. Corentine, and recieved another letter from the Folete'. He opened it up:

-------------------------
Mr. Howl Ingmune,

Welcome to the S. S. Corentine. Please be acquainted with your fellow expedition members as their trust will be needed on this voyage. You will be staying in Room 1. I hope your voyage will be pleasant.

Prof. Travis L. Intyme

-------------------------

He blinked as he pulled out a key, and headed down towards his room. He looked ahead, and saw Angel a couple rooms down. He assumed she had received a similar letter, but he couldn't help but ask the obvious. "You get a key too?"

((Oh, it's night time for you people? Well, that's what you get for time difference.))

Angel nodded in reply and unlocked her room to see a closet, bed and table. There was also another room which she presumed to be the bathroom. She unpacked her clothes, though few, and hung them in the closet. She then placed her files in the drawer in the table and sat down on a chair to rest for a bit. After that, she opened the door and went up the stairs to the upper deck where she had a clear view of the sky and the sea. "Oh, if only all days were this beautiful and splendid," she said to herself while she saw Keith and Nell walking up the plank.

I'm not so sure about this Howl guy... But who knows, maybe I'm just being judgmental. Nell thought to herself, taking Keith's arm and allowing him to escort her onto the ship. It was probably one of the most beautiful evening she'd ever seen, the sea was calm and the air warm and salty. She fumbled in her pocket for her room key and discovered that she would be staying in Room 6. I'll unpack later. I'd like to get to know the others better first.

EDIT: Sorry, Angel, I guess I didn't pay attention to the room numbers. Is this better?

Keith reached into his pocket and pulled out his key. "I can't wait to see our rooms." He said as he let go of Nell's arm, "It was a pleasure escorting you on board." He said with a bow before opening the door of his room.

((Yes, much better. :D))

Angel, quite a bit hungry by now, went down to the dining room for dinner. She sat down in one of the seats, anxiously waiting for the other passengers and the menu. "Well, the ship has been splendid so far. I wonder how their food will fare next," she thought to herself while observing the silverware and decor.

((Will it break anything if I join with two? One almost never goes anywhere without the other anyway.
Spoiler: "Space saving!"
Name: Jay and Jeremy Slezak

Age: 21 and 26, respectively

Occupation: Freelance detectives

Appearance: Jay is about average height (I'd say about 5'9") and average weight, has messy, short-ish black hair, has hazel eyes, and usually wears all-blue outfits. Jeremy is a bit taller than Jay (maybe 5'10" or 11") and a bit thinner, has nearly-glowing blonde hair down to his shoulders, has green eyes, and usually wears all-green outfits. They both wear black tennis shoes that look like dress shoes, packs on their belts in which they carry their detective equipment, notepads, pencils, a PDA etc., and both wear silver bracelets on their left wrist which are dotted with tiny blue gems that almost seem to glow. One of the unique things Jay possesses is a monocle which he made that he puts over his right eye and which allows him to digitally zoom in on things to get a better look at them. Of course, he needs it because of his vision impairment. He also fitted a camera to it to take pictures of whatever he sees, but he does not use it much our of courtesy for others. Jeremy just carries around a digital camera to take pictures, not needing anything for sight. The cameras do have Radio Frequency connections to the PDAs as well as memory cards that can be inserted into them as backup, though, which is how the two detectives store the pictures they take. Oh, and they both have hoverboards.

Description: Jay and Jeremy are brothers. They are kind-hearted, polite, and are usually casual about things, but at times they have remarkable insight and can get serious and philosophical which can and has put people off occasionally. They have always had a sense that there is more out there than it seems; more than the "reality" they live in, but they have attenuated those thoughts around others because the brothers knew those others would probably not believe them or think they were crazy. They are very interested in things they can't understand, such as paranormal phenomena, time travel, et cetera. Being detectives and of the curious sort, Jay and Jeremy have always kept notes about the things they see and the people they meet. It is for this reason they always carry notepads and/or PDAs with them. After hearing about the trip, Jay and Jeremy requested admission because the adventure may answer some of the questions they have about the world in which the brothers reside. They listed some of their questions in the letter and explained their worth. To the brothers' surprise, Prof. Travis L. Intyme replied shortly thereafter, accepting their offer, claiming the two had "great potential". They promptly began preparing for the trip and their minds raced with predictions on what may lie on the "other side of the portal"...
I hope this is alright. Also, I find it kinda interesting that we have a visually-impaired character here (other than Jay I mean), as I myself have a severe vision impairment in my right eye and almost no usable eyesight in my left one. No need to feel pity for me. I've dealt with it all my life.))

After unpacking what little items he brought for this trip, he walked around, until he hit the diner. He looked in and noticed Angel seated at a white-clothed table. He strode over and sat down across from her. He exhaled. "Look. I don't the best first impressions... so, I wanted a chance to start clean." He looked to the side, showing slight embarrassment. "I figured if we are all going to be traveling together... we might as well like each other. Right?"

((@slezak: Your application has been given to the expedition master. You're all set to post, and the ship will be leaving the harbor in a bit, so you might want to hurry aboard.))

Angel heard a person come in, and saw Howl seat himself across from her seat. He said, "Look. I don't the best first impressions... so, I wanted a chance to start clean." He looked to the side, showing slight embarrassment. "I figured if we are all going to be traveling together... we might as well like each other. Right?" She was then a bit surprised at his words, but didn't show it, and said, "I guess so. nd besides, if it's really your attitude, then it's okay. Just control your temper a bit more and I think you'll be fine."

Howl slightly nodded. "Well... it was a start." He thought. He looked back to her. "So, how many people do you think will board? There's already four of us, and I think there are six rooms." He sat for a minute, still trying to ponder the contents of the letter and all of the passengers. "I just don't understand why he would invite such a wide-ranged spectrum of people to investigate this portal. You got mathematicians, to journalists, to scientists, to bulk professions. It's like... he thinks we each are each needed for a certain task. But for what?" He began to rub his chin as a waiter walked to their table, and spoke with a light French accent. "Zonvia'! How many will be joining for this fine cuisine?" Howl looked to Angel. "Maybe about 5? Just in case a last minute passenger arrives?"

((Thanks. It's going to be interesting having "late-comers". Also I guess the RP will close after the ship leaves the dock? Or maybe you can open it up for people who want to RP characters from the place we go to? I'unno.))

"Mr. Jay and Jeremy Slezak,
There have been warps discovered in the fabric of time and space. You have been chosen as one of the few passengers to set sail aboard the S. S. Corentine to investigate one of the warps in the Philippine Sea. You will be embarking with other experts of their fields on the 13th of June at the Kaikala Harbor. Your ticket is enclosed in the envelope. Good luck.

Professor Travis L. Intyme
Department of Marine Science"
That's what the letter inside the envelope said as the brothers eagerly procured it from the mailbox. Inside was another quickly hand-written note:
"P.S., I know you two were already embarking on the voyage, but we are required to send this letter as a formality.
Thank you for your interest and once again, good luck."
Jay quickly put the letter in one of his suitcases as the brothers mounted their hoverboards and rode off towards the airport, a locked-up and lonely house behind them.

That was two days ago. The brothers were sitting in their hotel room near the harbor now, packing up everything again for the trip.
"I still can't believe we were accepted," Jay said as he closed his last suitcase.
"I know... I hope we fit in with the people that were actually invited to come," Jeremy replied, also closing and locking his last suitcase. The two finished tidying up the room (as they never liked to leave hotel rooms messy, out of courtesy, even though they knew housekeeping would take care of it) and went down to the reception desk, laying their room cards onto the counter.
"Thank you for staying and please come see us again," the receptionist said indifferently as she snatched the keycards and swiped them. The brothers wondered if they would ever be back here to see this place again, or after getting on the ship, if they would ever even see this world again. Jay and Jeremy quickly exited the hotel, got on their hoverboards, and began moving towards the harbor. As they got near, they saw the ship they were looking for: a large ship that had "S. S. Corentine" in large blue letters painted along the side.
"That looks like our vessel," Jay commented excitedly. They noticed a couple people already boarding the ship, and a man impatiently waiting at the gangplank, whom the brothers assumed was the officer checking the passengers' identities before they embarked. The brothers killed the thrust on the boards and stepped off, returning them to their place on the brothers' backs. Then Jay quickly pulled out the letter and the ticket as well as their passports. After the man studied the documents for a few seconds, he handed them back to Jay along with another letter. The brothers then hastily began ascending the gangplank.
It was a crisp June day, warm and clear. The brothers slowed down a bit to take it in, knowing it could be the last time they see such a sky. Just then, Jeremy remembered something, quickly running back down the gangplank. He turned around and removed the digital camera from the belt pack he was wearing. He turned it on, aimed it at the ship and Jay--who by this time realized what was going on, looked towards the camera lens, and smiled--and snapped a picture. He started moving back towards the ship, hearing a beep coming from his PDA which affirmed him that the picture had been transmitted successfully. Jeremy finally reached Jay again and the brothers walked together hand-in-hand into the iron body of the ship, excitement in their minds and anticipation in their hearts. After reading the letter and taking out the room keys, which had the numbers 3 and 5 on them, Jay began following the signs leading to the cabins, Jeremy close behind. The brothers wondered if they would see any of the other passengers on thei way to the rooms.

((As you can see I'm a fan of long posts... but then again the intro always seems to be the longest one. Also I hope I didn't pick a room already taken. I know one, four, and six were, and a fourth one was but not numbered. I just picked two rooms that would be next to eachother.))

"Yes, I'd think mabe we'd be five," Angel replied, "but then again there were six rooms numbered, but I doubt that this ship would actually be built for the sole purpose of this expedition, so maybe there were really six rooms to begin with. And this is a scientific expedition to examine this portal in the Philippine Sea, so they have to be prepared for any situation and mystery. Plus having experts at different fields would result in different analyses and perspectives."

On smelling something delicious coming from the dining room, Nell, who had been relaxing in her room, slipped her shoes back on and headed out the door, locking it behind her. She entered the dining room and was amazed at how elegant the room and table settings were. Howl and Angel were already seated, so Nell pulled up a chair to the right of the prosecutor, thinking this might be the chance to get to know him better. She listened to Angel's theory as to why there was such a diverse group of people on board and, indeed, it seemed to be the most logical explanation

Angel noticed that Nell sat down as well, beside Howl, while she told her theory on why there was such a diverse group of people onboard the S.S. Corentine. When she finished, a waiter came and brought them menus, also placing three more on the table in front of the empty seats. "That answers your question, Mr. Ingmune. I guess there will be two latecomers now, seeing as there were three other menus placed." She then scanned the menu for a dish that she preferred, so she ordered cream of corn soup followed by beef with broccoli and oyster sauce.

I wonder who the new passengers could be... pondered Nell, as she accepted the menu handed to her by the waiter. She flicked her eyes down the sheet, admiring the fancy italic script, and finally selected the crudites, followed by the same beef dish as Angel, but with a peppercorn sauce instead. "Angel," she began. "Do you know what the route of the voyage is? Where exactly is this portal situated?"

"Angel, do you know what the route of the voyage is? Where exactly is this portal situated?" she heard Nell asking her. "Well," she said, "the Philippine Sea is located east of the Philippines. If we are to go there, the most likely route will be to stop at Hawaii, then make another stop-over in Japan, and finally go to Samar, which is an island in Visayas that is beside the Philippine Sea."

((Actually, here's how I pictured the rooms laid out:
|7| |8| {possibly?}
|5| |6|
|3| |4|
|1| |2|
Kinda like on a street, where the even numbers are on one side and the odds on the other... unless they're all on one side, like:
|1|2|3|4|5|6|7|8|
...in which case I could edit my post. I wanted to make the brothers' rooms right next to each other.))

Jay and Jeremy didn't encounter any passengers in the halls, but they did pass by what looked like the dining hall and saw three people already there. They finally made it to a hallway with numbered rooms.
"This must be the quarters," Jay remarked, digging the room keys out of his pocket, giving one to Jeremy. The brothers unlocked their doors and stepped inside. They simply laid their suitcases on the modest bed and exited the rooms, locking the doors behind them.
"Shall we go introduce ourselves to our fellow passengers?" Jeremy asked, playing with his hair a bit.
"Affirmative," Jay replied, then led the way back to the dining hall. The large white-clothed table sat elegantly in the middle with plenty of room for eight people, but currently only six chairs were set, along with six place settings and menus. The brothers walked in slowly and made their way to the table.
"Salutations!" the brothers said simultaneously as they found open chairs next to each other and sat down. They surveyed the table's other occupants: a black-haired female with white glasses, a spiked-white-haired man wearing an eyepatch, and a red-haired woman with violet eyes.
"It's a pleasure to be here and to meet you all," Jay commented with an excited look on his face. Jeremy simply nodded in an 'I'm repeating him' manner.

((I forgot to mention that the brothers are quite close. They seem like they are twins, but really aren't. They sometimes do things uncannily similarly, like speaking at the same time.))

((Okay, that's good. Also, I only said the table "had room" for eight places. A table can be made bigger than its intended capacity, if you understand what I mean.))

"Ah, yes. I am Jay, and this is my brother Jeremy," Jay explained happily, "It's nice to get to know you all, Nell, Howl, and Angel."
"Yes, it is," Jeremy agreed. "I notice there is still one empty chair... Is there one more in our group, perhaps?" Jeremy asked, looking over at the still unoccupied seat.
"Hm... It seems like it. Anyway, my brother and I are very interested to see what these 'rifts in time and space' look like," Jay stated, "We are detectives, of the freelance variety... Always exploring, always learning, always questioning... always wondering." Jay procured his detective's badge and placed it humbly on the table, Jeremy doing the same, pausing to let the rest of the group examine them.

((I've noticed it's sometimes difficult to make it easy for characters just meeting Jay and Jeremy to understand their backstory.))

((Yeah, it seems difficult to get to know them right now.))

Angel, as usual, took pictures of the "twins", but realizing that her notebook was not with her at the moment, put back the camera after the photos were taken. She then said to them, "Nice to meet you as well. The empty seat is for Keith Ridgwell, a freelance journalist. I'm studying Forensic Science, Mr. Ingmune is a prosecutor and Nell is a nuclear physicist.

Howl looked over the badges. "Hm. Detectives. And brothers nonetheless." He looked over them again once more. Nothing to be too alarmed about. He skimmed through his menu he had received. "Back on the topic of traveling, we might actually stop at Hawaii?" He picture himself, laying back on the beach. He sighed.

"Yes, we may stop at Hawaii," Angel replied in response to Howl's question. "Or the ship may also go straight to Japan. It's based on how much time Mr. Intyme wants us to spend at sea. And if you're going to ask why he didn't want us to go by plane, Samar is progressing slower than most regions in the Visayas because of being constantly hit by typhoons, being alongside the Pacific Ocean." Then the appetizers were brought to them, and Angel began to sip her corn soup.

"Ah, I see you like to take pictures of everyone as well, hm?" Jay remarked after noticing Angel snap a picture of the brothers, "We do that sort of thing for our investigative work; keeping profiles... and just in case we forget who everyone is, haha."
"I consider myself lucky that I remembered to grab a shot of the ship before we boarded," Jeremy added.
"Yes, and what a great shot that was... Also, we're going to Hawaii? I'd love to take a few pictures of THAT place." Jay commented. The brothers then slid their badges off the table and put them back in their belt packs. They then picked up the menus and began perusing them.
"I'm plenty hungry. It's been a few hours since I ate breakfast," Jeremy said casually as he read the choices.

"Yes, I have to do this for the same reason, being a student of the College of Forensic Science," she said to the twosome. "And besides, it's fun." She then wiped her glasses and continued eating. "The food is excuisite. But we're on a scientific expedition, so why are there so many preparations, and just for six passengers?" she pondered, continually taking spoonfuls of the soup.

Everyone was eyeing through their menus it looked like from the kitchen. The waiter glided out towards the table and spoke with a glistened voice. "Ah! Mountriesestia! Are Ve ready to ordehr?" Howl ducked his head down a little, still picking through the entrées.

Keith, who was lying asleep in his room, suddenly came ot the realization that he should probably be at dinner. Waking up and putting on his coat, he walked into the dining room and took a seat. "I comepletely forgot about dinner.

"Ah, then hopefully you guys won't mind if I quickly test out one of my tools which I find extremely useful," Jay stated snappily in response to Angel's reply, quickly unzipping and reaching into his belt pack and pulling out a monocle... well, it looked a little more high-tech than a simple monocle, but not quite as "geeky" as an HMD. He placed it over his right eye and looked at Angel quickly, touching a small button on the frame of the eyewear. A faint click could be heard. He then did the same with Howl and Nell, hearing three beeps shortly after in quick succession, confirming the pictures had been transmitted. "Yes, it's a monocle camera, which I can use to take pictures of whatever I see. Also, there's this," Jay explained, pausing to point at two more buttons next to the "take picture" button, "If I ever need to look at objects more closely, I can zoom in on them and examine them in much greater detail." He decided not to tell them yet that he also had to use it in everyday life to see far-away objects due to his eyesight problems. While Jay was explaining the device, Jeremy simply nodded in agreement. Jay then quickly removed his monocle and placed it back in the belt pack as the waiter came back to the table.
"Still trying to decide," Jeremy replied, glancing back to the menu still on the table, "But if you would please get Jay and I some water, that'd be great."
When Keith came in and sat down, Jay said, "Ah, you must be Keith. Don't worry about being late for dinner; we were too, and as you can see, the group isn't past the appetizers yet."
