Andrei stared at his newspaper. Demyan Faddey's face was plastered on the front page. He had hoped that this story wouldn't get out, but of course, the press managed to find out everthing. They probably had a leak.
Of course, the story was over-dramatised, but the bare facts were true. It was an utter embarrasment for the entire service. They had tracked down Demyan, and cornered him. The troops had stormed into the building, guns ready for action. Except that someone had brought blanks instead of live ammo. Demyan got away, and now the service was a laughing stock.
He needed answers, so he called for Roxas Armstrong, who for some inexplicable reason had been the highest ranking person on the job.

Demyan watched the clouds roll by on the light overcast day. He loved the gray skied afternoons. They almost made him feel invincible. The sky's morose, melancholic shades and textures reminded him of that day nearly twenty years ago when he forsook his family for money. But, such was the way of life. It was either eat or be eaten, at least in his mind. He set down his wine glass and stretched back, overlooking Lake Lamiroir from the third floor patio. His lake mansion had been built directly over the deepest part of the lake for..."emergency" reasons. How funny he thought, that the name of Borginia's most famous songstress is also the name of the lake where shady characters conduct business. He shrugged the thought away. What difference did it make? It was just a lake; nothing more and nothing less. A majestic body of water housing thousands of different life forms. The thought tickled him inside; he had always been fond of the water.

Demyan smiled. "Good, very good. Kindly show him to me, if you would." The guard nodded and reached for his intercom. Two more guards appeared shortly with a stout, surly young man.
The young man wasted no time introducing himself. "Greetings, Mr...Demyan, was it? I am Mr. Ansily. Remember?"
Of course, Demyan never remembered the names of temporary accomplices but he played along anyway. "Yes, yes. Mr. Ansily. I trust you are here for your compensation?"
"Correct, Mr. Demyan," Ansily responded.
But Demyan wasn't yet ready to hand over the reward. He continued, "That was a very clean job you did back there. Replacing so many bullets with blanks, for so many agents, is no easy task."
Ansily perked up. "Oh, it was nothing much. Just 9mms and semi-automatics. Nothing too advanced. And, if it means leaving this lousy backwater country, then I'm in!"
As Demyan suspected; he was still a novice but a very handy one at that. "Yes, I agree", Demyan continued. "You have my word. I ensure that you are on your way to leaving this country. In fact, I think you'll be leaving much sooner than expected."
The news delighted the young Borginese traitor. Or would have, until he felt a sudden forceful grip from behind. The guards had him caught. "Wh-What is happening? Why is this...?"
Demyan finished what he was saying. "What was it you said? 'If it means leaving this lousy backwater country, then I'm in'?"
Ansily then realized his error, trusting such a crooked man. He truly was a novice. He didn't even have time to protest as two sturdy arms forcefully hurled him from the three-story deck and into the deep lake water below.
Ansily, shocked and gasping for breath from the fall, swam desperately for the shore; or tried to, until something caught his leg. Something long...powerful...and squishy. He didn't even have time to scream as he was pulled under and dragged toward the murky bottom.
Demyan took another sip of his wine, watching the whole spectacle. Of course, this compensation was the best he could provide the young Borginese to remove him from this small, backwater country.
