Cecilia's eyes filled with tears, but she wasn't quite crying. "Nadine..." she mumbled. She didn't say anything after that.

After thinking she was in control of the whole 'sister' thing, Nadine was startled to see Cecilia's eyes fill with tears. She stepped back from Viviene and put her arm around her sister. "Whoah, whoah!" she held her sister awkwardly. "What's the matter?"

Nadine blinked in surprise, and held her sister close as Cecilia hugged her. For once, Cecilia seemed her age, vulnerable, weak, needing of family. Well, I guess she can be more of a child now, Nadine thought to herself, Now she actually has a family. She stroked Cecilia's hair. It was almost enough to make her forget about Viviene. But not quite.

Viviene's eyes seemed to jump a little, but reverted back to her gaze. Still, Nadine's intensity (and height) was rather intimidating, but Vivi was willing to hold her ground.

F-family reunions!? What is she...

She felt herself become more agitated; not understanding this was incredibly frustrating. Vivi lightly touched her gun, but retracted it. No... this calls something less... drastic. This girl seemed less likely to be intimidated by a gun; she would probably know that Viviene wouldn't shoot. However, a little lesson with her hands might be what was needed...

Cecilia's reaction still caught her off guard.
Her father said not to... say anything? About what!? Vivi thought, gritting her teeth. She suddenly wanted to know who Cecilia's father was. It's not... Shelly, is it?

Still, the older girl's sudden concern was what Vivi needed to get herself under control. She glanced at Nexus; still quiet. Should I... leave? No, I don't know who the client is; or if I should arrest Cecilia.

Nadine stepped back towards Viviene when sure that Cecilia was alright. “So, officer she said sarcastically, “Do you want to know the secret to do with you that even you don’t know?” She peered at her edging towards her gun, and smiled snidely.

Vivi gritted her teeth, faster this time, and breathed deeply through her nose. I need to take control; I need to show her I'm strong.

Viviene knew the gun wouldn't be of any use; Vivi wouldn't actually shoot anyone unless it was for a kill. Instead, she positioned her right hand in a way that her forefinger and middle finger were pointed, her thumb dangling on the side. This hand was laid surreptitiously to her side. She may have the instincts of a De Killer, but maybe police training will have helped me polish this.
The idea of learning something about herself that she didn't know sent Vivi on edge. It could be a lie... right? But even Cecilia seems to know it... and she doesn't look the type to lie.
So how can I make sure this girl has no reason to be so smug? That I have control...?

Oh right. Her sister.

"It sounds like to me you don't have much of a choice. I, however, have many options; I could arrest your sister, I could go to the police with this house's address. Even if you do move out, it will at least make sure the police will go on a higher alert for the De Killers. You, however, could tell me, not tell me this "secret" of yours. I'm sure you could kill me, but I don't think even a De Killer would be so messy; the police could track down where Nexus and I went after a quick search of his computer, and they'd be here. Even if you cleaned up the evidence, how about all of this De Killer paraphernalia? So you see, what you're about to tell me must be so profound that I would not be willing to do any of the above things in order to make sure you all are caught." Or at least, their clients. "So I suppose it has come down to either me being told this "profound secret" or I need to have a chat with Cecilia."

"Nexi..." Cecilia said. "You know you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you killed me. I still love you and remember you."

Seeing Cecilia's nod, Nadine closed the space between her and Viviene yet again. "A reason why you shouldn't kill us or arrest us? Hmm, let me think," she put a sarcastic puzzled face on, pleased at how she was handling the situation. "Maybe you shouldn't kill a De Killer...because you are one. I guess the relation would be...my adoptive cousin." Nadine smiled maliciously. "Viviene De Killer. Nice to formally meet you." She stepped back towards Cecilia, and put her arm around her shoulders.

Nadine raised an eyebrow at the gun that was once again, pointed at her. "Don't believe me? Then do something you're actually good at, as a member of the force." She smirked. "Identify the picture of that woman in Viviene's locket. You will find it is Luna De Killer, if your records are up to date."

Vivi wanted to say something. Anything. But she found her mouth dry.
Nexus spoke for her first, his gun out. This sudden movement made her brain finally work again.

"What!? How dare you accuse my mother of–of..." Vivi wanted to say of your foul deeds but somehow, she knew that wouldn't go over well. Viviene took her locket off. "My mother was named Miriam, not... Luna, was it?" Viviene tried to think of why that name sounded familiar, but she found the memory... repressed for some strange reason. Vivi felt her hands shaking. Why was she so frightened? It couldn't be because... she thought this girl's (Nadine, right?) accusations were... true?

Vivi found herself in a sort of adrenaline-infused frenzy. "Show me proof! What proof do you have that my mother," Viviene opened the locket and waved it, "is a killer." She glanced towards Nexus. "Tell them, Nexus. Tell them this... madness is false..."

...why am I so desperate!?

((Okay *phew* that makes it a lot easier to respond to! Because at first I thought it sounded like my mother disappeared—and was killing people. I would've been fine with it, I just... didn't have that planned :oops:

And I just realized that in my history I said my mother died while my father disappeared. Whoops, let's just go with what I've been saying (Mommy disappeared when I was younger, Daddy died) Lol, let's keep going, shall we?))

Viviene flinched. She had heard of them, while she was working in the police force. But as a child, her mother would never have told her of any murders around the city. Vivi knew what they were, but it wasn't until she was studying to be in the police force that Vivi knew how "common" murder truly was. Is this just... more proof that— Vivi cleared her thoughts. I can't fall to Nadine's trap!

"I'd heard of them... while studying up cases." Unsolved ones. "A De Killer did those; you've reminded me that it was Luna de Killer. But... those blurred photographs..." Viviene tried to fight the rising fear in her stomach. Luna had Mom's hair... "You can barely see anyone in them. For all I know, it could have been someone else! You don't see her eyes." Viviene remembered her father saying that the most recognizable trait of his wife were her eyes. And that Vivi had inherited them. "I still don't see concrete proof connectin my mother and Luna de Killer!"

"Oh really?" Nadine was getting frustrated now, so she acted quickly. She grabbed Viviene's shoulders and pulled her so that they were eye to eye, so that Viviene could see her electric blue eyes.

Viviene cursed herself for not acting fast enough. Nadine had pulled her close enough to see...

Her eyes. Those same electric blue eyes. Vivi fought for ground.

"We're battling genetic probabilities," she seethed. "So, does that mean I'm your sister? I highly doubt that." Vivi attempted to get away from Nadine's grip, but realized more force would be necessary. She was ready to raise her hand for a strike, but faltered. W-what's wrong with me!?

Do I... actually believe her?

Vivi's eyes visibly became downcast. This is simply hearsay! But it would explain... so much...
She regained her intensity in a moment. "I am not convinced. Show me... something else! This is the De Killer home, is it not?" Vivi sniped. "You may be able to faze me with these genetic traits, but I won't believe my mother is Luna de Killer until I see some concrete evidence. If she lived here, there must be some remnant of her!" she ended sarcastically. With renewed strength, Viviene pushed her free hand's thumb into a pressure point in Nadine's wrist, so that she'd let go of her arm. Vivi stepped back. It was an ability that she knew wasn't potent enough to cause any irreparable damage accidentally. "And even if I was Luna's daughter, this well-renowned De Killer who was able to take down victims with only a knife and absolutely no resistance—"

Viviene froze, a sudden memory from police academy school suddenly appearing. "Luna was able to kill her victims in broad daylight with little to no resistance. However, due to the placement of her final blow, and a thorough autopsy, it was discovered that the reason for no resistance was because Luna had the ability to most likely use pressure points to her advantage to paralyze her targets."

Vivi glanced at her hands, suddenly thoroughly terrified. Why didn't this occur to me... earlier? Most likely because I thought I could never be a De Killer!

Viviene snapped out of her inner monologue and narrowed her eyes. "My point is, why aren't I in your position?"

"Vivi," Cecilia said. "Take a good look at this room. A good, long look. This used to be Luna's room. I know it must be hard to accept that your mother was an assassin, but have I given you any reason not to trust me? Fine, I'll pull out the one item of hers that was never ever touched by any of us." Cecilia looked downcast herself. Why did she have to put someone through so much pain? She walked to her dresser and stopped. Do I really want to do this? She turned around, hoping for some form of approval so she knew what she was doing was the right thing.

Nadine crossed her arms, and looked over to Cecilia, whose eyes were faltering, unsure of what do do. Nadine nodded at her in encouragement before turning back to Viviene and frowning at her. "Is the use of pressure points not enough for you, Viviene?"

"Oh, this is just brilliant, isn't it." Nexus said, holstering his pistol. I'm now in a room, with three of my relatives, the relatives I had planned to kill, along with myself. Just, fucking ,brillliant." Nexus walked out of the room, leaving the three females.
Walking back into his old room, he gazed at the destruction.
Is this really what I deserve? Am I condemned to a life of torture, because I'm the only de Killer who did the right thing?
He sat on the bed, gazing at the slashes in the duvet.
Then why should I stay alive?

Cecilia noticed Nexus walk away. Hastily, she pulled a golden box and put it in Vivi's hands.
"Open it," she ordered. "I have to go somewhere." Not giving either Vivienne or Nadine a chance to stop her, she ran out of her room and into what used to be Nexus's.
"Nexi," she said, shyly. "This room...I tried to fix it many times...But I could never get anywhere before I had to do another job or Daddy-er-Shelley would come home. However, I planned to do one thing today..." she pulled out a picture of Nexus. "I was going to put this picture over that one." she pointed to a picture with graffiti all over it. Cecilia then smiled encouragingly.

"Thanks, but..." He trailed off, not knowing exactly what to say. "Its just-why am I being punished for doing the right thing? I left a clan of killers, and I'm paying for it. I've lost a leg, taken beatings...why? The only operating de Killer who hasn't tried to kill me is you!"

Slightly startled at Cecilia's sudden departute, Nadine stared at the small box in Viviene's hands. She looked up at Viviene and crossed her arms. "Open it, then." Hearing the muffled conversation in the other room, she could very vaguely hear what they were saying. "...the only operating de Killer who hasn't tried to kill me is you!" Nadine sniffed. "I haven't either!" She shouted, then let a small grin slip onto her face before turning back to Viviene.

"You did do the right thing, but it isn't right by the rest of the family. To them, you betrayed us," Cecilia said. "Or something like that. I never really understood the reasoning of the rest of the family, even though they've tried to explain it to me lots of times...I'm sorry I can't tell you that..." Cecilia suddenly felt the urge to hug Nexus as he looked so depressed. "Nexi? May I...hug you?"

Vivi saw Nexus leave, his words sending a shiver up her spine. Hold on, I still don't think I'm a—!

However, before she could react, a golden box was pushed into her hands. Viviene looked at the box sheepishly. If this was truly her mother's, did she really want to open it? If what these girls were saying was true, was she ready to handle the truth?

Is it the truth?

Viviene bit her lip, portions of the conversation in the next room barely registering in her brain. Nadine looked impatient; she wanted her to just open the box already. Vivi took a deep breath, as if holding her breath would dampen whatever was in the box.

She opened it...

((Do you want me to make up something as to what's in the box or did ya'll have something in mind? Because I can make up something on the spot, but I didn't want to ruin any ideas :oops:

I know I betrayed the family, and through them, you, but...ever since you were born, it was always me looking after you. They were always out, but I never was allowed." He smiled. "It's good to see you again."

"I'm so glad you're here now."

((Actually, that was my idea exactly, gunlover XD ))

Vivi's face held an expression of bewilderment. The box contained a few letters and at the bottom was a pendant. Viviene held this up first; it was a silver chain with a crescent-shaped pendant that was silver with a blue gemstone in the middle. The silver looked slightly tarnished from years of sitting.

She put it down and picked up the letters. The first one made her jump a little—she recognized it as her father's handwriting.

Dear Luna,
I never thought I'd ask you this. In fact, I don't think anyone could have predicted it. But from just a few moments from talking to you—how strange that it was about assassination!—I somehow felt a... connection, so to speak. We both seem to have pasts that haunt us everyday, but yet we also seem to share this sort of hope that something is better on the other side.
I feel that you could become that something better, but obviously I won't know for sure. I was wondering if we could see each other again—obviously, I'd make sure you wouldn't be recognized or known. But if it is at all possible, I'd like to get to know you better. If you find this venture (my, what am I, an entrepreneur!?) fruitless, then I will drop it and never speak to you again. But if it so pleases you, please, please answer back.

Viviene cringed. She was seeing her parents'—no, there was no way Luna could be her mother, was there?—first 'love letter'. Vivi felt her breath coming short; she knew this was her father's handwriting. The fact that he had sent out a hit on someone seemed so... devious, so unlike him. That person better have been someone evil, Father! she thought.

With only inward curiosity pushing her farther, Vivi looked at the next letter. This one had unrecognizable handwriting, but she inwardly groaned as she realized who it was.

Dear Sister!
I congratulate on your engagement. I've been rather scrupulous to know whether this "Harold" fellow is right for you, as I have only the highest standards for you. My shadowings seemed to have paid off; I have to say, I'm rather impressed. He takes your reputation very seriously and is careful to not let anyone know who you are. His little waves towards me while I am in hiding send me into inward fits of laughter; he is an observant man, isn't he?
In any case, I am very happy for you. I regret that you will be leaving the De Killer line, but it is for good causes, I believe. I seemed to have made sure none of you will speak, in any case.

His last line sent shivers up Vivi's spine. Strange. He didn't seem to let Nexus off so easily... I wonder if the idea of assuring "silence" had anything to do with it...? However, her stomach was still tying in knots tighter and tighter. The proof was there... but could she believe it? There was one last letter...

She audibly gasped as she looked at the salutations.

My dearest Viviene,
If you are reading this letter, it must mean that my brother Shelly has found it necessary to tell you the truth. I hope you do not hold any grudges towards me, your father, or the De Killer family for not telling you earlier. I had hoped to not have this burden be upon you at all, but special circumstances have made it that I must disappear for awhile. But I am not worried; you are growing up to be a strong, independent woman and I am proud of you.
I am not wholly proud of the work I had done; I felt trapped because all of my instincts and special skills seemed to be useful for only killing. And I was fearful when I saw you be able to exhibit the same skills I had. But you were always so resourceful; I knew that you'd find a good use for these De Killer traits that you've inherited.
One thing I must ask of you is to not dabble too much into the De Killer affairs. While I've made sure Shelly will not lay a finger on you, that does not mean that he doesn't feel a slight resentment. He was hoping you'd become a De Killer when you were older, but I vehemently refused. But I encourage conversation with your new family.
Another thing; do not worry about me. I'll be fine, though I doubt I will see you again. Take care and try not to think of this as too large of a burden.

Viviene was visibly shaking now. This was definitely her mother's handwriting—that she could see. The fact she knew for sure her mother was Luna—that was plain to see, but she still had a hard time believing it. It all seemed to make sense now. The puzzle pieces she'd been trying so hard to fit together were finally in one piece. But the truth was not pretty.

She closed the box with the necklace and the incriminating letters and set it down at her feet. Vivi bent over with her face buried in her hands.
"Are you going to say 'I told you so' and just rub it in?" she mumbled sadly.

Having read the letters through the back of the paper, Nadine crouched down to where Viviene was bent over, and cautiously laid a hand on her back. "I'm sorry I got angry, Viviene." Her eyes saddened. "It's just...Cecilia. If you hadn't known the truth, you would have arrested..." Nadine tailed off at the end and stood, lifting her hand off of Viviene's back.
