Matthew asked Othello if something was wrong, then started conversing with Rodrick.
"Nothing's wrong," he said, but wasn't sure Matthew heard him. He was a little preoccupied. Then, Clawes waved back and walked over. Othello smiled.
"I'm willing to forget the whole incident if you are," he said honestly. He figured he might as well engage the guy in conversation... "So, you're a chemist, huh? That's pretty interesting. Do you have any chemicals on you?"

"Ah! Whoops..." Rodrick hurried over to the man at the desk. "Erm... I'm u-under Rodrick W-welsh, sir." As he waited for the man at the desk to check him in he looked at the people in the lobby. They were certainly a strange bunch, and probably wouldn't get along. All the same, Rodrick hoped that they'd be able to just survive each other.

Anika observed that August wrote down his notes on a notepad, which looked as though it's been used for quite a long time. "The first expedition did not succeed, but revealed much information, da? Because of their efforts and tragic downfall, I am even more strengthened to rise to the challenge of going on this expedition." August was writing down what Anika said, and paused when she mentioned his brother. "Yes, my brother Adam... He went as a geologist, and, as everyone else, never came back. And, partly, I am here because of him... But it's work, and the Advertiser considered me the most able for this coverage. But that's not important right now." He finished writing down what Anika said, and resumed.
"Well, I think that's it for the profiles section, with your ages and nationalities, which Mr. Starkweather and Mr. Moore were kind enough to give me." He smiled at her, and stood up. "When we get on the ship, I'll probably have some more questions, but this is it for now. You can check in now, thank you." He waited for Anika to go, and for the rest to finish checking in, to interview them.

"So, you're all checked in, right?" he asked, eyes skimming for Clawes. He had to leave to register, and didn't really get his question answered. Or maybe Clawes answered, but he didn't hear him? Othello shook his head to clear it as he waited for Rodrick's response.

(To save for a response post, I'll go ahead and say that when Clawes was first at the front desk, he was checking in, and received said note. Plus, does the RP length post apply here?)

Clawes noticed he was slow to respond, in reason Othello had left to check-in. When he returned, he felt needed to reply the answer. "Nothing too out a' the ordin'ry." He reached into his coat, extracting 3 medium-sized tubes. (Keep in mind this is in the 30's) "I've decided to test the freezing peak of ammonium nitrate, in hope of being near frigid temperatures. But in case we don't... I've brought along samples a' arsenic and Xenon to test their nuclear charges when altered in altitude. I've produce examples of spiked charges between arsenic and Radon at about 609 Kpz, though I'm interested to see what happens if a post-halogen is forced towards and oppositely--" Clawes blinked as he realized that he was rambling on, and that his accent had disappeared into his words. He produced a shy smile. "Did that answer your question?"

Anika took the note from the bellboy, and noticed Othello glance at her before going back to talk to Rodrick. "Odd," she thought at Othello's reaction. "Maybe it was because I never introduced myself? Hm..." Then Anika walked back, and read the note in her hand. "I presume I am ready to go. There is no use in staying here anyway. Now, let us depart." With that, she stepped outside and hailed a cab. "Pier 74-B, please. 12th Avenue and 34th."

((What exactly was the use of all of the passengers coming to the hotel if we'd all go the pier anyway?))

August noticed as everyone had checked in, and were leaving to the pier. He might as well too, he thought. He stepped out of the hotel, and rasied an arm to a nearby taxi. It was there in a matter of seconds.

"Pier 74-B, 12th Avenue and 34th, please." he said as he sat down. "Next to Italian Royal Mail." Then, the cab took off.

"I have traveled many times, yet every time I see the sea it still brings a feeling of anticipation for adventure," Anika thought (in Russian), looking for the S. S. Gabriel among the ships.

((Sorry, guys. I'm back now.))

Rodrick got out of the cab and reluctantly paid the driver. What was the use of a "shortcut" if it ended up delaying his arrival? He saw that Miss Anika was already there, and walked up to her. There were a few moments of awkward silence, which Rodrick finally broke by asking, "U-um... when will e-everyone g-get here?" Not the best conversational line, but it was a start.
